not only showers but also a couple of thunderstorms. nothing to worry about. we are not tracking anything severe. that is the good news but if you are waking up with us on the eastern edge of cuyahoga county, towards the lake county, that is where we are seeing periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. some lightning strikes have been detected within the system. it is weakening as it crosses over 271, but again, if you are hitting the roadways this morning, take your time. across 422, towards auburn, towards garrett so, seeing some of those light to moderate showers and that will be the trend throughout the day. temperatures we are forecasting in the mid to upper 60s, close to the 70 degree reading. if you are going out on lake erie, there is a chance for some waterspouts. we will talk about that coming up in the next little bit. back over to you.

turning to the big news of the morning, one person dead and two others hospitalized in a crash on ice -- i-480 at the ridge road off-ramp the victim was changing a tire when a pickup truck drove off of the roadway striking the part car. tanisha matthews was killed while 23-year-old matthews remains in critical condition this morning. the driver of the pickup truck, 48-year-old clark justin, is being treated for drugs are believed to be a factor in this class. tranv the cleveland police union is endorsing donald trump for president. the local association of black police officers says that it is disappointed with the decision. the union voted overwhelmingly for donald trump, 216 votes for him and 68 for hillary clinton. carly flynn morgan spoke to the union about that decision. >> a lot of people are

a lot of people are upset determine the officer has spent 23 years with cleveland police, the president of the black shield, a police association that promotes the interest of black officers in cleveland. he and other members are troubled by the results of this ppa vote. he says donald trump has -- he supports tactics that could harm members of the cleveland community. he speca frisk. >> i do not want to put that much power into the hands of police officers. i do not think we are ready for that responsibility right now. >> this is bizarre world. i have no idea how we got here. >> reporter: the president and also a police officer for 23 years was not surprised by the vote outcome. he said point-blank law enforcement is under attack by president obama and hillary clinton a. >> it is a very dangerous world out there right now and more dangerous every day for the police officers trying to do the job. then when he says the democrats

welcome back. the six-year-old boy shot during the school shooting in south carolina last week has died. the anderson county coroner announced that jacob hall died saturday afternoon. authorities say that another student and teacher were injured when a 14-year-old boy opened fire at an elementary people in jamaica are preparing for the arrival of hurricane matthew. they are boarding up, filling up, and stocking up. yesterday in the capital. hurricane matthew threatens jamaica, haiti and cuba and is the strongest since felix in 2007 and has already killed at least two people.

data recorder from a crash commuter train in new jersey. one woman was killed on a platform when it jumped the tracks but more than 100 other people were injured. officials say that structural issues are preventing work crews from removing the partially crushed new je leading to the terminal appeared to be working normally. the bp oil spill made headlines for being the largest man-made disaster in history but a new movie focuses on the lives of lost and saved. mike wilber sat down with the movie stars. >> how are you doing? >> reporter: a huge story but what really happened? deepwater horizon that explores the men and women that were there when the oil rig exploded. >> it is about the other side of it, the side that we did not really sort of -- people did not focus on because of the end -- the environmental disaster was so horrendous. we kind of overlooked that these were people on this oil

how dramatic the experience was for everybody. it was really interesting. when i read the script, i kind of went, i had no idea. >> paying on a second. 11 people perished in this thing? and explosions so big that you could see it from outer space and it is on that oil rig and 100 people survived. how is that possible? what happens? that is what the story is about. you know of this but you do not know anything about it. only stars in the film but he is up -- the producer and wanted to get the story right. >> we decided that we wanted to make the film. everybody was certainly in the oil rig community and representing the deepwater horizon guys -- they were reluctant to be a part of it because they felt like -- probably make a movie about marine life. and saving the seagulls. it was obviously horrible but i do not think anything

for waterspout formation later on today. this is how they form, by the way, when cooler air arrives over relatively warmer water. as you very well know, lake erie water temperatures right now in the upper 60s and lower 70s. so as the cool air flows over the warmer water, and as you know, warm air tends to rise like a hot air balloon and that gives way to the growth and development of clouds and at times thunderstorms. as the cooler air flows over the water and it interacts with the rising air, sometimes you get churning in the atmosphere. we call that windshear. and occasionally, some of that churning will then produce the waterspouts and that is the threat that we will see for the

on if you plan on going out on lake erie. lake erie water temperatures, upper 60s, near 70s, and meanwhile, actual temperatures on the ground are only in the mid-50s. you can see where the dichotomy is. 58 degrees in downtown right now. and here is what we are tracking for you in terms of the showers and some rumbles of thunder. if you are waking up with us in the lakers portage county's -- all of that going generally tos county. the bigger picture is showing you it is because of the big swirl that we have been tracking over the past couple of days. that is the area of low pressure. thank goodness it moves out of here by tomorrow. i think that, for the day today, it is the off and on rain that we will see so keep that in mind. keep the umbrella close by on sunday and early monday. tuesday, wednesday, thursday, we dry things out and we warm things up and you want a couple of good days at the apple orchard tuesday, wednesday, thursday, and friday. >> it is great for halloween

pumpkins after the festival. we are told that they will either sell them, use them as halloween decorations, make pumpkin seeds out of them. truthfully, there are endless opportunities with how big they are but also, look at all of these decorative pumpkins that we have this morning. jackie williams is here to talk to us about them and, jackie, these concepts are so ornate, done by children, adults. what do we have? >> we have two different concepts going on. we have the painted pumpkins and the scarecrows and they bring in their pumpkins and they get judged and they get a nice little trophy. >> reporter: we already picked the favorites but what are some of your favorites? >> i really like this one. the whole stacked pumpkin idea is really awesome. i like the magis doughnuts -- those are over here. and the scarecrow.

been tracking hurricane matthew over the past several days. it is still a strong category 4 storm. winds at 150 miles per hour and what you see -- this is haiti with the dominican republic to the right. the greater antilles, you can see hurricane warnings have been posted. that is jaic you know where guantanamo bay, cuba, is which is right over here. that is a hurricane warning. we are expecting for hurricane matthew as a category 3 across -- haiti -- the one good thing about this is that haiti as you know has enormous mountains so in the inner parts of haiti, not so much towards port-au- prince and the capital but inland from haiti, because of the mountains, it actually helps to protect parts of the

category three hurricane as it causes in between -- cuba and haiti and makes its way towards places like the bahamas this point, nasa, the capital of the bahamas, not under any sort of warning or watch just yet but i'm putting you by on standby -- if you have friends and family vacationing, they need to be paying close attention to hurricane matthew. back at home, periodic rain throughout the day. a couple of waterspouts may be seen over lake erie with a warm- up into the upcoming work week. the temperatures outside of the 50s, water temperatures in the upper 60s. rain is what we are tracking along with rubbles of thunder. on the eastern edge, middlefield, seeing some of that rainfall. this is quickly moving towards the east. and i think that it will be in between that 7:25 am and 7:35 am but otherwise all of this, due to an area of low pressure that we are tracking for you.

at this past week and i want to take you to the cuyahoga valley national park and introduce you to a couple of willy worms. >> reporter: it is important that we do everything that we can to get the forecast correct a lot of folks have been asking is what is the winter season looking like what the forecast models and climate data suggest that this upcoming winter should be relatively normal temperature wise, in terms of precipitation and the snowfall -- we may see a little more than normal. and the snowfall department -- another way that folks around northeast ohio determine if it g winter is to look at the woolly bears. and that is what brings us to the cuyahoga valley national park today. >> the folklore is that the more brown you have in the middle of -- that will be the more mild the winter, where as

is a harsher winter. if this area has more plectrum it is worth at the beginning versus the tail, it will be a cold her tail and closer to spring. >> reporter: we have spent the better half of the afternoon in search of woolly bears. and unfortunately, after overturning rocks and looking through the brush, we have not found any woolly bears but here's the thing. if you see a woolly bear, crawling around, outside of your front door, and you look at it -- folklore suggest that the wider the brown band is the more mild the winter would be part much like what we saw last year. however, the wider the black bands on the woolly bears -- that would suggest winter in northeast ohio. >> you see those crawling around. i need you to pick one up and let us know what you see because unfortunately we you -- literally three hours, four hours -- we did not see why. and not even wine. >> yeah. now we are going to see them

to this. you can see where haiti is and of course the dominican republic right here and you will notice the color red -- of the red shading towards a cube, guantanamo bay and for jamaica. this is a hurricane warning that has been posted for hurricane matthew. winds at 150 miles per hour, a strong category 4 storm, and it will weaken a little bit as it crosses generally in between. cuba and haiti. and eventually, more to a category 2 status. i mean, winds still over 100 miles per hour at that point as it goes towards the bahamas. but of course a very popular vacation destination. a lot of cruise ships take that path towards key west but also the bahamas and nasa. you want to make sure that if you have any travel plans, that you are monitoring the situation very carefully.

and here is what we are tracking for you right now. most of us dry, certainly not all of us, at the eastern edge of ashtabula county towards pontiac, seeing some moderate rain along with some lightning at times so you may hear some rumbles of thunder but you will notice that over the leg, there is a lot of activity going on, and because of all of this activity with a showers and thunderstorms, there is also an increased -- some waterspouts throughout the morning and into the afternoon. low pressure is still planted over michigan and s thank goodness of the clouds, the rain, and the storms, by monday morning, tomorrow, most of this should slowly but surely move off towards the east. i think that by monday evening, and then more specifically into tuesday, wednesday, thursday, things are looking better. for today, grab the umbrellas if you're going out to worship services or doing dinner with

the off and on showers will be in the mix. temperatures are only the 60s for highs today. so comfortable equal, you can grab the fall jackets and fleas and you should be okay. tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon, we will hang onto passing clouds but look at what happens by tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday. the sunshine returns. that helps to warm up the temperatures back into the 70s. it is going to be an amazing fall we could northeast ohio so the pumpkin patches, the apple orchards, and all of that good stuff that you like to get into. you can do it this upcoming week. it will be a perfect week. >> this is the time of the year when the families take the
