we start your morning rush with local volunteers who are gearing up getting ready to head south to hurricane matthew. we know overall the red cross is ready to open or assist with more than 100 shelters there. now here is what the storm. it's expected to strengthen, it's moving closer to the coast and will likely stick around for a while. in florida this could be one of the biggest evacuation efforts ever. now from what we understand hollie, the storm will turn from a category 3 to a category 4? >> tiffany ironically we got an update from the the hurricane center. it's intensified here over the

hurricane matthew's track is shifting west and that's bringing grave conditions along the u.s. east coast. the category 3 storm is responsible for 25 deaths. in the latest update it has strengthened a little bit according to hollie and as it marches north it will intensify more. sarah rosario joins us live from daytona beach with more on the threat to florida. good morning sarah.
5:41 am
you lynna. there are evacuations orders in place along the east coast from florida to the carolinas. this is the biggest storm we have seen headed towards the area in more than a decade and just this slight chance in its path to the west or to the left that could impact the area and that's why many people are not taking chances. >> reporter: along the southeast coast it's time to pack up and get out. >> smartest thing to do is >> reporter: 12 million people could be in the path of hurricane matthew. in florida, this could be the big of the evacuation in state history. governor scottish you'd a dire warning. >> this can kill you and we cannot save you. >> reporter: people along the coast filling up the tanks but some drivers say fuel is hard to find. a state of emergency declared in florida, georgia and the carolinas. in south carolina, both lanes of freeway traffic are being diverted away from vulnerable

columbia and stay with a coworker and wait out the storm and hopefully come back and be glad that i left. >> reporter: millions of people are racing to get out of the storm's path while matthew moves closer and closer to the coast. and lynna according to the latest track the worst of the the storm is expected to move over the daytona beach area late tonight through friday afternoon. meantime, local schools and businesses and government buildings all closed here for the next two da. lynna. >> you mentioned mandatory evacuations. there's always someone who happens to want to stay so what happens if people decide to stay? >> reporter: well right now, there are national guard members that are helping people to evook wait. those people who choose to stay the governor said you need to get out and that he said that we are not going to be able to save you. and that's because they are not going to put their emergency
5:43 am
save people who are not heeding the mandatory evacuation warnings. so, if people decide to stay, they are doing it at their own risk. >> thanks so much. sarah rosario reporting live in florida. let's check in with hollie. hollie just reiently you got a -- recently you got a update. >> it went from 115 to 125-mile- an-hour winds. we will talk about matthew in a second but let's start with the local conditions because we are all terrific for the tribe tonight. and it's going to be breezy warm fall weather day again. still forecasting a bit a cool down for the weekend. cloud cover to start, but then we transition to lots of sunshine into the afternoon. so it's a partly to mostly cloudy sky as you wake up. and over the next 12 hours we see this as we look towards 7 a.m. still a mainly cloudy sky before transitioning over to more sunshine mid to late morning. and into our afternoon. so, yeah, some cloud cover but it's looking love otherwise and
5:44 am
comfortable feeling morning. you can see the little hints of moisture with the cloud cover in place. but i think we should be more or less dry until saturday. and that's when we get small chances for sprerchgeling and -- sprinkles and showers because of the cold front that will be moving through and that's going to cool us down and it will start to feel like it should for this time of the year. not just a wee bit below normal. here's latest on matthew. this is what lynna was talking about. winds are 125 miles this is literally an update that just happened. so if you are watching earlier in the show this is new information and it's moving northwest at 12 miles an hour just so you know a category 4 hurricane the threshold begins at 130 -mile-an-hour wind. it's five miles away-- five miles an hour away for before being a category 4 and it is expected to be a category 4 approaching florida and we have not only the warnings in place
5:45 am
it's currently battering the bahamas and the track it is scary. it takes it right up the floor doo coast georgia south carolina and obviously huge concerns there and then the only saving grace that we are seeing is instead of continuing up the east coast is this curve back out to sea so north carolina you know may get away without seeing much of a impact but it's early and you have seen over the past few days forecast. pretty till cal -- typical a lot of times the tropical storms i worked in north carolina for few years and they tend to wobble when they get close to making landfall and they stall a bit and things can happen. so we will keep you updated. we have got your window nation 7-day on the tv. the upper 70s until the weekend and we cool off a bit. we have got doggone weather

5:47 am
good morning. >> good morning. so here's my take now on this series between the indians and red sox. boston is the big favorite in vegas and, of course, with all the experts. but here's how i see this series and let's break it downright now. i will give the edge in pitching to the red sox. but only because the indians are missing salazar. i here's where i like the indians. first of all with miller the best bullpen in baseball the indians need to have the lead late and turn it over to them. better manager i will give the edge to terry francona who won twice with boston and knows them better than anyone. the x factor. the indians remind me of the 2004 red sox. never quit gritty baseball team
5:48 am
especially at home where 11 walk off wins. if they are down but they are within striking distance, they can rally against the boston bullpen which at times has been their weakness. based on all of that, i will go against vegas and i will go against the baseball experts and i will take the indians to win this series in five games right here at progressive field. let's talk about the national league right now because they are set. and it will be the giants who will play against the the nlds. maybe a surprise who had the big hit. connor broke a scoreless tie with the mets 3--run homer in the top of the 9th. that was more than number for bumgarner the best post season pitcher on the road complete game shut out to push the giants into the next round. how about this stat this morning in 20 innings of elimination games, bumgarner has given up zero runs and that is a major league record. 3- 09 final.
