to on the 7th day of october. that just doesn't happen here in northeast ohio. 57d yesterday. no one was complaining about it. especially after that big win. here is what it looks like outside as we speak. so if you suffer from mold allergies i might suggest you have that box of kleenex with you. otherwise, mid to upper 50s, low 60s. it's oo comfortable start this morning, although it is windy. notice those winds from the northwest between 15 to 20 miles per h also, a chance for a few showers this morning, especially on the eastern edge there of lorraine heading into cuyahoga county. so north ohmstead, perhaps an umbrella. i might suggest weight it out for at least the next 15 minutes if you are thinking about going for a little jog around town. otherwise, the forecast for today will hang on to the clouds through the early-morning hours, then we're trending towards more sunshine with temperatures in the low 60s later on this

story is hurricane matthew. we'll give you all the details on what's expected and where his trajectory is headed in just a couple of minutes. until then, though, let us enjoy the cooler start this morning. >> right. exactly. all right. thanks so much. we do want to get you updated on some of the news coming out of the south with hur kaun hur -- hurricane matthew. it will continue moving north with winds in excess of 100 miles per hour. a 6 to 9-foot storm surge flooding event and some areas could see as much as 10 inches of rain. mark barger reports from charleston, south carolina. >> cars were a rare sight on the streets of savannah overnight. heavy rains and high winds pummelling that city as matthew took aim. many evacuated but those who didn't were on their own. >> first responders will not be allowed to respond in conditions that endanger their personal safety. >> just the latest stop after

coast friday. relentless winds and torrents of rain, storm surge turning ocean waters into flood waters. trees fell victims to the conditions as did countless homes and businesses. more than a million florida customers are without power, the potential for more farther north today. >> still have hurricane warnings and storm surge warnings in effect for the entire south carolina coast. >> more than 300 thousand south carolina residents evacuated. charleston firefighters tried to encourage more to leave this low-lyingy possible flooding. >> we try to suggest and say, hey, guys, you know, girls, please evacuate. >> matthew continuing its assault on the southeast. >> any residents still left here in downtown charleston went to bed last night with weather that was merely very stormy. they are waking up this morning to weather that is getting substantially worse. in charleston, south carolina, mark barger, nbc news.

captures this. shows a tree falling on top of a van during hurricane matthew. thankfully no one was inside of the van at the time but it shows how strong those winds are. back here at home, a pedestrian was struck friday night. the man was hit at i-490 near east 55th and cleveland sending him to the hospital. he was just changing a flat tire. officials say his condition was unknown friday evening. donald trump has apologized for lewd comments he made about women in a video statement posted ois the republican presidential nominee says he was wrong in making the comments but says the recording is a distraction from bigger political issues. >> i never said i'm a perfect person nor pretended to be someone that i'm not. i've said and done things i regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them. bill clinton has actually abused women, and hilary has bullied, attacked, shamed, and

coming days. see you at the debate on sunday. >> house speaker paul ryan said he was sickened by what he heard and that trump would not be attending an event with him in wisconsin today as scheduled. and we've learned that hilary clinton will be back in ohio on monday. clinton will visit columbus where she's expected to urge ohioa nshgs. her visit comes after the presidential debate which aired sunday night traffic is not an issue right now coming in and out of cleveland. as greg reports, there are closures that you need to know about for the weekend. >> hello, everyone. some closings to tell you about this weekend if you are traveling into downtown cleveland. that's going to involve i-90 westbound and the onramp to i-77 southbound. that will close 7:00 this evening and continue through 7:00 on saturday evening. big detour around this. there's no other way to get around but to take 71 south to

that's going to take you several extra minutes before you get back on 77 southbound. also closed this weekend, this is going to be an easier detour. that's the onramp from 77 northbound to i-90 eastbound. that closes at 10:00 in the evening on friday, a little bit later, and stays closed until 3:00 in the afternoon on saturday. much easier detour here. you are going to exit on east 14th. take that up to prospect, and then take prospect over toward 90. should be delay. >> all right. thanks, greg. the 2016 heart walk continues to return in downtown cleveland this morning. it raises money to help save lives from two top killers, heart disease and stroke. that's where we find channel 3's alyssa raymond getting a jump start this morning. these type walks are always just great reminders on how to get our steps in and make sure that we're staying healthy.

toward ashtabula county. grab that umbrella if you are going to be headed out the door. it's a very light shower that we are seeing towards north ohmstead as we speak, all compliments of a cold front moving on through. i think it moves through. it cleers the area by late morning and, again, into the afternoon. i think we see more praeks in those clouds. let's talk about hurricane matthew still churning up the eastern sea board. here we are in georgia, sa rain fall moving up toward charleston as a category 2 storm. most of our forecast models in agreement that it'll take a sharp right turn and then move right over the bahamas as a much weaker system by that point. currently winds at 105 miles per hour, and you can see through sunday and into early next week, it begins that turn and that curvature. we're calling it a little loopdy loop into the bahamas by next

home. now through lunchtime. the clouds should continue to clear as should the sprinkles. so this afternoon, not looking bad at all. by your day tomorrow, on sunday morning, a great-looking start, despite a few passing clouds, but a 10% chance for a stray shower by that point and into your sunday afternoon. temperatures today, low and mid 60s under partly cloudy skies. cooler and look at those winds from northwest. 15 to 20 miles per hour. overnight lows comfortably cool in the mid to upper 40s, with your window nation 7-day forecast showing you 60s through about monday and then tuesday and wednesday, we jump back into the 70s. it'll be a great feeling day. an isolated shower chance wednesday night into early thursday. it's another cold front moving through, knocking us back down into the low to mid 60s by the end of the week. but all in all, i mean, look at that 7-day forecast for middle of october. not bad at all. >> right. >> you know, for northeast ohio.

morning. temperatures nice and cool in the mid and upper 50s. 56, low 60s in downtown, but there's also a breeze with all of this from the northwest between, say, 5 to sa miles per hour but justing over 20 at times. you'll also notice up through cuyahoga county, seeing some very light showers. all of that yenly -- generally pushing off towards the east. if you are waking up with us isolated sprinkle can't be ruled out of the question. all of this is going to be heading towards the east toward shaker heights, and eventually towards, say, chester. so grab ahold of these umbrellas if you plan on being out and about for extended period of time. otherwise, clouds through the morning. those break apart around lunchtime means lots in the forecast later on this afternoon. temperatures in the low 60s. we'll talk more about when temperatures fall into the 40s

night ahead of us indeed. >> thanks so much. well, we have an event going on this morning. heart disease and stroke kill hundreds of thousands of people in the united states each year. cleveland's annual heart walk raises money and an effort to lower those numbers. channel 3's alyssa raymond joins us live where festivities begin in just a few hours. already, people are there setting up. we are going to be there. what are people telling you about how this event isoi >> absolutely. there's 25 tents with different vendors, and there's different health screenings and activities for kids for them to learn about healthy eeth, as well. here with us this morning is fred. he's the chair of the heart walk. fred, i mentioned a few things, but what else is going on here today? >> oh my goodness. this will yus ness -- just be a great day. as the day starts, more than 10,000 people will gather here

health and stroke health and raise money for really a very important cause, and that's a cause to really kind of extend our life to support research and to support the important programs that the american heart association sponsors, like the great work done with cpr training just in our community in the last year. 80 thousand people have been trained. and, you know, that just saves lives. and what a great day we have, as we sit over here and look over at our center and know that we've joined the health expo that channel 3 puts on every year in a really elegant beautiful way with the heart walk. this is a day for health, a day to continue to rise up as cleveland has been rising up in the last period of time. i think we are just so proud. >> we are so proud. it's such an exciting day. just give us a rundown if people haven't -- are just hearing this for the first time, what time should they be down and can they still register to participate? >> sure. we welcome all of our community

offering health screenings there, as well. back to you in the studio. we'll see you in a bit. >> all right. sounds good. thanks. we have big news for summit county. is summit metro parks just purchased akron's valley view golf club. it's considered the missing piece to connect four major parks and green spaces throughout the region. now, sand run metro park will be linked to the already adjacent cascade valley. it also creates new opportunities for the park to use the cuho ohio and erie canal trail. more good news for our parks, this time for the cleveland metro parks. the park won the 2016 national gold medal award for excellence in park and recreation management. the prestigious honor is one of the highest possible and places the metro park among the best in the nation. well, cremated remains abandoned and unclaimed now finally laid to rest.

the fear of losing your job could increase your risk of diabetes. researchers looked at data for more than 140 thousand workers in the u.s. australia and europe. those worried about becoming unemployed were 19% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, regardless of their age or other health issues. other studies have linked job insecurity to weight gain, which is a risk factor for diabe expectancy has consistently risen since 1900, we will not see people living to the age of 200. scientists at the albert instien college of medicine say the human life span has a ceiling, which has already been reached. they calculated the average maximum life span is 115 years with the absolute limit being 125 years. the oldest living person in

9:00 br warming back up into up thor 50s by lunchtime. still looking for that mix of clouds and sun before i think we see a little more sunshine later on this afternoon with temperatures topping out at about 63. so, again, we are on a little roller coaster right now. in the 60s in some spots. we'll fall into the 50s as we head back towards mansfield and back up into the low 60s later on this afternoon. you'll certainly feel those winds, as well. currently from the hour, gusting upwards of 20, and a few of us, especially right along the lakeshore, seeing very light showers as we speak. so head's up if you are joining me from downtown cleveland. i think we'll see just a couple of rain drops. all of us going to be working into lake and county and back towards portage county and ashtabula, as well.
