in palm springs, california. officerrers closed off a multi- block area but could not confirm that the suspect was inside of the area. the two cops were the first palm springs officers to die in the line of duty since 1962. ? [ music ] ?? turning to politics now, problems and backlash over a tape involving um women continues this morning. more top gop names are calling for trump to drop out of the race, including ohio senator rob portman. but trump supporters are rallying and macing their voices--and making their voices heard. and jennifer johnson has the story. >> hey, thank you. >> reporter: a republican rally led by house speaker paul ryan, munition the presidential no, ma'am fee. he was not invited.

the group held a round table too talk about the gun laws in the nation. sitting gown has come to leapt taking a stand across america. a group of students at the university of akron did not stand during the national anthem the weekend. and we look at what they were trying to say. >> reporter: it was a statement on police brutality. a peaceful form of protest that they hope sends a mess an. homecoming weekend at the university of akron, the took on miami, but it was action off of the field before the game that had many people talking. ? [ music ] ?? >> reporter: because when the national anthem played-- >> we are not part of what you are seeing. >> reporter: a number of students sat, refusing to stand. >> we are all affected by the things that are going on with the police brutality and being a black man and by me working graveyard shift, i worry every night going to and from my job, because i walk.

it has become one of the biggest shopping days-over the year. but the nation's largest shopping mall is not participating. mall of america in minnesota has been open on thanksgiving since 2012. but this year, they will be closed. they are offering workers time with their families. mall of america will reopen its doors at 5:00 a.m. the day after their own with a new strategy. they are on track to double the number of giant warehouses dedicated to online sales by the end of the year. the compani's vp of marketing says that the company has doubled their capacity, allowing it to shifted to most of the u.s. population in one day. some owners of replacement galaxy note 7 smart phones may be able to make another

certainly out of the north, you can feel them sustained between say 5-15 miles perrer hour. and we are nice and dry, which is the good news, i think that we should, for the most part, stay that way. but if you are heading down first to first energy a cool start this morning because of high pressure off to the northwest. on the eastern edge, we get a north to south flow of air, so that forces down that exactly what we are waking up to this morning. again, we were talking about hurricane matthew earlier in the week and notice that it has weakened, which is the good news. and it is going out into the middle of the atlantic ocean and away from the united states and we will continue to see the rain and the wind up and down the eastern sea board, back at home, though, now through say lunger time, it looks pretty good. again, we will call it partly

an isolated sprinkle chance is possible today. and tonight look at the temperatures and watch what happens, in some spots, we are in the 30s away from the lake, as we were mentioning before in cleveland and ashtabula, we should be warmer in the overnight. but by the day tomorrow, looking for more sunshine until the forecast in the come--in the forecast. so the numbers today, upper to lower 60s. lows tonight in the 40s. window nation seven day forecast, bringing in more rain tomorrow, on monday, and on tuesday, best bet for a couple of showers rolls in on our wednesday evening into early thursday with a cold front. we call it a cold front because we go from low 70s on wednesday back into the low 60s on thursday. but maureen, long story short, though, a chilly start this

sports report. good morning, everyone. if the weather cooperates in boston this afternoon, the indians and red sox will face off in game three of the best of five alds. here is hoping that the indians can get it done because they are up 2-0. so a win today would do it for the tribe. they have josh on the hill to start the game, too. this will be his first ever post season start. he had had a rough month of august, but in september, he was good, and in his starts, he was 2-1 with a 0.175 e.r.a. so he is on a little bit of a roll here and josh says that he will take that same approach that he has taken into the regular season games into today's play-off game against the red sox. >> you know, i understand that the ballpark is unique, and the fan base is cool, it is rowdy. it is a good atmosphere to pitch in tomorrow. but, i am just going to go out there and try to treat it as

it is now 9:30 a.m. on sunday morning. you know it is sunday when the orange and brown is out there and the sea of grills are browns game today and it is finally feeling like football weather. a lot of people are probably bundled up out there, michael. oh, yes, i actually stepped out on the back deck and it is cold outsited with the breeze right off of the water. but again, if you are heading down to the center, it is chilly. grab the fall fleeces. here is a look at the temperatures, we are in the 40s

big dipper roller coaster is coming down. the demolition is coming in the coming weeks and they are working to preserve some of the art facts. but they are also saying there are no plans to sell, relocate, or save the coaster. cleveland is coming to the big screen yet again. we have preview of the new movie created by local film

welcome back, we were so happy to see many of the viewers at channel 3's fourth annual health and wellness expo. it was full of opportunities from screenings to fun events. and some of the favorite faces from channel 3 were there through the day. and we had a chance to sit in the chair from the voice, just so thank you for coming out. and it was great. if you were not with us earlier this morning, we had so many people come up to the desk, we were greeting people and we recognized some of the faces as our twitter friends. and it is so great. and they got the screenings done. >> and it was a great day.

to 10 czar thousand people going for the walk. i think you can choose to go for the walk and it was a huge success. >> and now people are walking to the stadium. that is what is happening. >> oh, yes, especially this morning. here is a look if you are thinking about walking to your boat, so we do, we are anticipating stronger winds from the north and you will certainly feel those this for the next 20 minutes or so. i think still think, though, through the afternoon, that we will see waving between 2-4 feet. heading out, it is feeling like fall this morning, temperatures through lunch time, in the 50s. i think we top out in the lower 60s later on this afternoon. but, look at where we are at right now. 40s down to mansfield. wooster is at 47. akron, canton, dover, doing the

again, winds generally from the north between 5-15 miles per hour. perhaps upticking to 20 later on this afternoon. but again, if you are heading downtown, perhaps going to the lot or to first energy stadium, grab that fleece. it is high pressure that is dragging down the cooler air from can that d right here in into northeast ohio -from canada right here and into northeast ohio. and then next week, temperatures in the 70s. and by the way, matthew, and what is going on. again, we are still feeling the effects of hurricane matthew, it is now a post tropical cyclone, so as of this point. but notice that boston, it is soaking wet through the day today, that is because of what is left of hurricane matthew.

out to sea, so think think by next--so i think by next week, it is not a problem for us herer in the lower 48. back at the home, now through lunch time, we will call it partly sunny. cool and breezy, and is that the trend through the afternoon with an isolated shower chance. look at what happens to the temperatures, though, overnight ton, into early tomorrow, we fall into the upper 30s, low 40s in some spots. we were actually in the 30s this morning in a couple of spots. closer to the lake, i think first thing tomorrow morning, we and thunderstorm, it is all coming with sunshine and plenty of it. the window nation seven day forecast, sunny skies tomorrow and tuesday. or monday, rather. on tuesday, looking great. wednesday we are in the lower 70s. and wednesday night into early thursday a chance for showers and then sunshine to wrap up the week, it is back. and now speaking of sunshine, maureen, back over to you. >> oh, you flattering.

ohio are now bringing cleveland back to the big screen just in time for halloween. clown town is hitting theaters. and now they are here to talk about film and how timely this is too, with the clowns that are popping up nationwide. >> yes, and we have nothing to do with it, actually. >> okay, all right, good. well, thanks for being here this morning. tell me about the film. what is clown town about? >> oh, it is a throw back to the 80s, out on a road trip to go to a concert and end uptaking a wrong turn into a small town and they are hunted by killer clowns. >> oh, wow, so you did a lot of filming here in northeast ohio. >> yes, we filmed in west lake ohio, crest line, ohio, and cleveland. >> and during the weather, you were telling me about crestline, because the small town ohio, and why is that the

>> oh, well, the effects house is there and robert is actually from ohio, he was in la, and new he is back. i did a film with him and we knew he wanted to come to ohio to shoot, connect to bob and they were awesome. >> okay, so this is, like i was teasing you, it is timely, because we have these clowns that are popping up, do you think that is going to draw more attention to the film because of the clown issue, i guess, we can these days an and we feel that, you know, we are not part of it that it is going to help the film. i mean, people are seeing it and it can only help. >> and where is the film today? >> catch it in ohio city. it plays until thursday. at 1:00 p.m. and7:00 p.m. and then also, it is available on dod and dvd, you can get it on wal-mart or am zone. a ton--amazon.

why cleveland? what keeps you here? >> because it is really unique. you know, for the best orchestra in america, which it is, to be situated in a relatively maul city, it is really unique and the spirit of the orchestra is so special. when i come to first rehearsal, everyone is prepared. it is great. and there is a focus on music, music only. and you know, in many of the other big places, if you go to new york, to london, to bernanke begin,--berlin, paris, there is always politics involved. and here, it is crust ab--it is just about the music. >> and if you had to pick one thing that makes a good orchestra, what is it?

really the mind set. it is what you want. what do you want to achieve. it oleasters here. >> right--it all starts here. >> and what do you want to do while up here? >> i want to achieve, depending on what we play. but in every piece, that is core message--there is a core message, to really get to the core of a piece, that is what i want. and you know, on the li musically better than anybody else. but at the own the day, it is all about communicating with the audiences, giving them--but at the end of the day, it is all about communicating with the awed denses. >> when you are up here, it is like a surgeon, a teacher a coach, i mean, all of the things come to mind. and i wonder who is going through his head at any time.

movements, that it is sort of a silent language. but i will say 50% of my job is physcology, you have 104 musicianings, in this case, so 4--104 musicians in front of you and they are all extremely well trained, educationed, they are great--educated. they are great experts on their instruments. and then, they also opinions. and you have to steer them all together in one direction, and that takes a lot of physcology. >> so you are like a teacher, coach,. >> yes, coach. >> and you started off playing the violin as a child. i read when you were 18-years- old, you were in a car accident and had to put the violin studies aside and concentrate on conducting, do you recall

point? did you know you had to make a change? >> no, i still tried to play the violin and i tried to fight it. and you know, these things happen in a split second, such as a car accident. but it takes a long time to realize what is really happening. and so it took me, really, quite a few years to sort of this, and know what i want today do next. >> why--i wanted to do next. >> why conducting? >> i think just because i have a talent for it. and it is--it is an amazing job, because as i said before, you have to sere all of the people in one direction. and it is, it is, oh, it is a
