6:06 am
and what can candidates do in the 11th hour to sway the voters? >> reporter: well it depends who they are and i think most of those voters are not really voters that run decided about the two candidates they are voters undecided about whether it's worth going out. voters that swing between voting and not voting and it's soft republicans who don't like trump thinking if it's worth it or soft democrats who don't like clinton to see if it's worth it and that's what they are trying to get that skeptical in trump's case republican out. so you know, it's a base conversation that he got to have today talk up the importance of the the supreme court for instance. for hillary clinton, she is focused it canly on the african american vote which is just not that enthusiastic. so it's the voters that are on aa fence or the ones on the fence about voting. they know who they will vote if they go to the polls but don't
6:07 am
for hillary clinton here yesterday everyone around here listens to lebron james we have had beyonce jay-z how much of a boost did the celebrities give candidates in the final hours? >> reporter: i think here's what it does. it attracts a crowd and that matters in the final hours. why? the bigger crowd you attract the more likely you will get a group of volunteers. the more likely you will get a group of volunteers they will go door to door or drive people to the polls or whatever it look i go back to what i said in the earlier answer and particularly what clinton is trying to do. turnout numbers among african americans in the early vote in particular was flat to down. so, that is why you see her pulling out the stops in a cleveland and she is doing tonight philadelphia again focus canning on the african american vote and campaign there with president obama. she is going to have them up in ann arbor michigan about
6:08 am
to jen it up. but anybody you can bring to bring a crowd can help even if it's just getting new volunteers to go door to door. >> all right chuck todd get your power drinks ready i know you are in for the marathon coming up. >> reporter: a lot of caffeine. trust me. >> there you go. >> thanks so much we appreciate it. and, of course, see more of his analysis on the today show after our show. >> a good night's sleep is around the corner for him. tomorrow americans will head to the polls. so what do you need today? >> will ujek joins us from the board of election and people have cast their ballots. >> reporter: yeah absolutely. this is where you do it at the board of elections. and actually before the count calendar hit over in to november, it's been over 23 million americans that voted early. 36 states allow that without any excuse. the other ones you need a reason for that. but experts are predicting 30 to 40% of the votes will be all cast from early voting. if you want to vote early you
6:09 am
and they have 100 parking spaces reserved for voters off euclid avenue. voter parking signs is what you want to look out for. otherwise tomorrow you can check on board of elections website to make sure that you're at the right polling place and you can look at a sample ballot to seewhat you will vote on. united states election project says it's high usage of early voting with 50% of the votes cast being early and key battleground states like ohio they are reporting an uptick in women and that maybe they go hillary clinton and north carolina and florida but they are seeing some looks like trump could be flipping states that the democrats won in 2012 based on early voting projections. so, all the numbers coming in early but we have another day and a half before we figure out what it means guys. >> will and we have a new way for you to make sure your voice is heard during our newscast. it's called mega phone and you can take part on your phone or tablet. >> sod we asked did you take part in early voting.
