too much for this bridge in franklin that collapsed as creek waters rose. >> larry: it's the second day in a row with significant rainfall and most are feeling the effects. >> tammy: first, we get the very latest with chief meteorologist jason boyer. jason, the worst i hope has passed us now. >> jason: yeah, it really has. it's much quieter overall. you can see some of these showers reside over the mountains. laurens county, still moderate rain in most cases. 23 roads closed in greenwood county alone from the flash flooding. so there you go. highway 25 and the bypass affected there in greenwood. it's been a pretty messy situation there. you can see the rain moving east. maybe a stray shower or two. the reality is we're going to pretty much be done with the

we will see our chances of rain. we will see that the flood watch is still out for areas again until 7 o'clock in the morning. and we still have the rain to deal with as we go down the road. rainfall totals. we've seen two inches or more in places south. joining me right now is kim king out in polk county. what's it look like there? >> kim: hey, jason. the weather has improved out here. i-26 is moving slowly with traffic heading out of asheville area this afternoon on to this evening. earlier today we saw some heavy rain and there was a major mudslide on the road near here on polk county. white oak mountain road was definitely closed. we could not immediately see from the point what the damage was. about a half mile up we could, though.

with boulders sliding off the mountain. a dot crew came out and documented it. and then assessed the damage. >> trees out of the road. making sure basically that roads are open if they're safe to open. i have been cataloging pictures in case we get reimbursement. they have to declare -- the governor actually has to declare that. >> kim: there was a smaller mudslide near piney gate road on the saluda grade. early this afternoon with heavy fog and wet roads. that larger mudslide we showed you, we talked to dot officials out there and they gave an initial estimate for repairs of over $100,000. they haveo bring in special engineers to assess what kind of repairs need to be made.

asking us when the rain would stop. we are of course hopeful that it will stop now and at least give them a chance to dry out in the next couple of days. reporting live in polk county off i-2-2, kimberly king, news 13. >> larry: there is another mudslide in buncombe county. this one's near school. >> tammy: we go live with news 13's john le in swannanoa. the flooding overwhelmed artspace charter school. >> john: that's right, tammy. it has been a great collaboration. they left behind a couple of mountains of stuff of debris, including lots of carpeting damaged. and the latest rainfall couldn't come at a worse time, really, as they're beginning to recover from that first round of rain this week. as we take a look at surveillance video from late monday night. in fast speed you can see debris floating away from the courtyard

the pictures taken show us just how bad it really was. water runoff from reeger avenue. damaged just about every room in the building. >> the worst part is we have just completed a master plan process with the asheville design center. so this was all part of the plan. mother nature didn't wait on us. >> a lot of books are damaged. once we get settled and organized, we're going to need some support with that. i'm worried about mold with musical instruments, art work that we have. >> jaclyn: so mother nature did not wait and a lot of school supplies were lost. many of it donated and paid for by the teachers themselves. students are scheduled to return to school next tuesday. obviously it is still very much in the air. there's still a lot of work to

they're looking for help in the community in terms of not only manpower but also any kind of equipment you can bring in to help. obviously a lot of school supplies will be needed here at artspace. john le, news 13. >> larry: and we have continuing weather coverage in the upstate. here's a look at east warehouse court in greenville county. where about a half foot of flood water covered half a section of road there. avoid the roads even if the road is still open. a few inches of water could carry your car away. >> tammy: that was just yesterday morning. justin tieg helped a woman escape flood waters. that driver tells news 13 she couldn't reverse and had to abandon her car.

>> larry: she's been doing it for 25 years. but on this day, just a week after a confrontation no one could have imagined. >> what could have happened if not for her actions should send chills up our backs. >> a token of my appreciation to you. i love you very much. >> i love you, too. >> larry: this grandmother faced the threat of death. it happened after she pulled up in her bus. >> he held a gun up like this and i cranked my car back up. when i idid, he pointed it at me. >> these individuals attempted to get on to her bus. she made the conscious decision to keep that from happening. >> 911, what's your emergency? >> there's two guys out here in our driveway and they're shooting one another. >> lord, he's going to shoot me. no, my kids will be here in a minute.

>> larry: ms. ab tried to run over them, so they ran. adam conley and catherine jeter were captured behind the school. hen the sheriff asked them why there? why a school of all places? >> one of the suspects said the reason they were here was it was god's will to be here. basically what they had said was if it had been god's will then they would have begin shooting students and teachers. >> larry: instead of tragedy, this ends in triumph because of ms. ab had the courage to confront a gunman. >> i can't get some stuff out of my mind. but everybody keeps telling me it will take time. >> larry: after this final ride, alice bradley will have a whole summer to get it off her mind.

the white house backed away from not long after. >> i think they hoped that the very large incentives would kind of start a movement. but it didn't happen. >> john: with one full day left in 2015, americans are nowhere near having a million electric vehicles on the road. the government is spending 7.5 billion in stimulus funds on electric cars. the nissan leaf. >> it's a great car. the leaf, you're saving money. you're saving the environment and you get a cool car. it has all the bells and whistles you're looking for. off to the races. wow. this doesn't have the sensation of an engine. >> right. >> you don't feel it. >> you don't. you just feel like you're just moving now. it's almost like you're floating. >> john: this model starts at $32,000. but you can get about $10,000 in

>> i think most people assume well the democrats are for the hybrids and the electric cars. i suspect a huge number of my republican colleagues are using that technology. >> john: owners aren't concerned the sales didn't hit the million car mark. >> i think it's a great goal. it's beautiful, the efficiency of an electric car. the repittedy of the adoption of the electric car is how powerful they are. in america you buy stuff more on how cool it is rather than on how much sense it makes. and this thing is amazingly cool. >> john: while the tax credits are still in place, industry groups expect those credits will be offered in the next 18 months. whether they'll be strengthened or canceled remains to be seen.

skywatch now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> jason: good news here, a lot of us have seen the rainend to the rainfall in the mountains. the idea is that the flash flooding is pretty much over right now. the general flooding will continue in the areas that have been flooding today over the upstate. light to moderate rain today in the southern end of laurens

midland of the upstate and south carolina. but for the most part, it's really going to wind down. 60 degrees. it's cloudy in asheville. we dropped a degree. only a degree. the difference is north wind at 7. it's a gradual process in evening in terms of cooling down. it will be a significant process, if you will, come tomorrow and especially on new year's day. where's the cold now? not far from the north. upper midwest through the great lakes down to the ohio and tennessee valleys. 44 degrees in memphis. about ready to move in to the mountains and move through. that will begin the changes for us as we get in to the weekend. the cold front will move through tonight slowly but susuly. this is an agonizingly slow process. slowly but surely it will move to the east.

there's going to be rain there for the nexex 12, if not 24 hours. friday is going to be cloudy. new year's day will be cloudy here. it will be windy and cold, too. high pressure from canada anchors itself well to the west of us. it will be strong enough to push the cold air to the entire eastern half. you see the clouds hanging with us through the morning hours tomorrow. the idea is that north of 85 in to the mountains, it will be dry for the rest of the evening. we'll have our breaks in the clouds tomorrow. more clouds than anything else. they'll win out again friday. we ring out the new year on a cloudier end. lookor mid 50s in the upstate. mid 60s closer to the front and greenwood county. highs tomorrow should still top out well above average. 60s south of the upstate. new year's eve forecast. tomorrow evening temperatures in the 40s throughout.t.

not a bad way to ring in the new year. the record coldest was one below in 1928. it's a lot better than that, folks. upper 40s friday. upper 40s saturday. 60s sunday and monday. all that sunshine will be nice to see as we dry out. upstate, going from 60s tomorrow to only around 50s saturday and staying in the 50s through the weekend. >> luke: i'm luke notestine live in fort lauderdale. the clemson tigers football just about a day away from the orange bowl.
