clean up. no warnings across the area. we still have flood watches in effect. a lot of these go until 7 o'clock in the morning tomorrow. but then they drop off. no additional rain expected here. we do have a few sprinkles happening but that's about it. it's really low cover and fog that's causing some issues right now. reduced visibility across the area. a cold front is nudging it farther to the east slowly. the process is dryer and cooler. how about rainfall today? look at the contrast from just shy of a quarter inch in burnsville to a little more than 4/10 in asheville. two inches in greer. how about three inches in greenwood. they had major issues in greenwood today. lots of roads flooded. it will be a foggy start. give yourself a few extra

because of that, 56 by the lunch hour. sunshine sunshine working through. areas of dense fog and low clouds to deal with. i'll show you the changes that will lie ahead for us in the new year and they will certainly get your attention. i'll show you why. >> tammy: as you just heard jason say, the rain is out of here at least for a little while. that means biltmore village will not be dealing with anymore flooding. >> larry: the rain we had earlier today will not help. dot crews are trying to clear the roads of mud. news 13's jerrika insco joins us live from biltmore village. >> tammy: jerrika, what's happening right now? >> jerrika: as you can see, there's still a lot of mud on this road. as long as this road is covered, then the rest of biltmore village probably is because cars are driving through here and pushing mud around to the other

both financially and physically. >> i woke up the next morning and looked at the cameras, i was like, no. >> jerrika: for tourists who were not here tuesday, today is just a gloomy day. >> we walked around and stuff. but it's starting to rain harder, actually. >> jerrika: but to the shops in biltmore village, this rainy day is the last thing they wanted to see following flooding less than two days ago. >> we had about two inches but it was throughout. >> jerrika: surface gallery's clean up can't really begin yet as the director braces for more wet mess to come through her doors instead of the storm drains outside. >> kind of soak it up. but yeah, the sandbags but it's kind of a waiting game. there's not much you can do. >> jerrika: surface gallery, unlike neighboring businesses have been open despite the mess

but the flooding has still cost them customers in artwork and money. >> definitely thousands. we've had a few pieces damaged but it's mostly the furniture and molding and things like that. >> jerrika: people walking by thinking this gallery is closed during the holiday. that's also not making this muddy situation better. >> it has slowed down business quite a bit. >> jerrika: until it's cleaned up, they're all on standby. dot crews out here are letting traffic through but they're saying if you can avoid this area, that will enable them to do their job quicker. jerrika insco, news 13. >> tammy: a passerby helped rescue a woman from flood waters. justin tieg was driving by when he noticed another driver stuck and calling for help. that driver tells news 13 she

and had to leave it. tieg swam through six foot deep water to help her across the flooded road. >> i don't even remember her face. i just took her out. got her out of the water. >> tammy: first responders say you should never go in to flood waters. tieg realizes it was risky but he just felt compelled to help. surveillance video from late monday night shows debris floating away. the pictures from the next morning shows just how bad it was. water runoff damaged just about every room in the building. >> the worst part is we have just completed a master plan process with the asheville design center. this was all part of the plan. mother nature didn't wait on us. >> a lot of books are damaged. i think once we get settled and organized, we're going to need some support with that. i'm worried about mold with

that we have. >> tammy: and to make matters even worse, a lot of the school supplies that were donated or paid for by teachers are destroyed. >> larry: another mud slide in polk county could cost $100,000 to repair a road there. white oak mountain road was closed. the dot crew documented and assessed the damage. >> trees out of the road. making sure basically today in the early stages that roads are opened if they're safe to open. i have been cataloging pictures in case we get reimbursement. they have to declare that. the governor actually has to declare that. >> tammy: an inmate was found hanging in a cell this morning

detention officers were able to recessitate inmate brian houser. >> reporter: tonight, mission hospital says they don't have houser listed as a patient. because of that, they can't disclose any information about his condition. transported him there around 3:00 p.m. after he was being treated at rutherford region. brian houser had been at the jail since october. deputies say houser was in a cell by himself. a little more than a year ago, a rutherford county inmate died. the sheriff said william anthony miller hanged himself. he was also in a cell by himself. houser was being held on a $400,000 bond. he's charged with seven counts of assault on a police officer. deputies took houser in to

at a home on this road, a sheriff says he was involved in a 21-hour standoff. it started when a 911 caller said his son attacked him. he shot at deputies before swat team took him in to custody. he was transported in to mission hospital. sbi said they were never asked to investigate the standoff. they also were not asked to investigate the attempted suicide. the state regulatory agency also said they were not asked to investigate. an attempted suicide does not have to be reported. in rutherford county, aaron adelson, news 13. >> larry: a fuel leak caused a crash on i-26 that shut down the west bound lane and backed up traffic for miles. it happened near the tryon exit near the polk county line. four cars were involved. three people were hurt.

the west bound lane was closed for about 45 minutes to get ambulances and wreckers to the scene. everything was cleared up just a couple of hours ago. well the wife of the mayor of waynesville was arrested today on drunk driving charges. jackie brown is charged in connection with a christmas eve wreck on russ avenue. it sent her and three other people to the hospital with series injuries. authorities say the car brown was driving crossed the median and hit a pickup truck. she's the wife of mayor gavin brown. she has a court date set in february. >> tammy: time is running out to donate money to as many as 30 non-profits in north carolina. justin hinton joins us live from the western north carolina nature center, one of the places hoping to cash in on this new program. justin. >> justin: yeah, that's right. it's pretty easy. just go online and pick where

behind from tornados in texas. now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> jason: well the rain's moving out and good riddance. we do not want to see it for a longngime to come and we likely won't. that's the good news. what you see on radar, a little bit of low level moisture. low level clouds and fog the big story. take a look at recent decembers in terms of total rainfall. in 2009, we had the wettest december ever recorded. 9.1 inches. we've had some wet years, 2013, and this year, up to nearly nine inches. we're going to end december as the second wettest ever and the warmest ever on record. plenty of stories to tell the grandchildren years from now. 56 degrees and it is foggy. 97% humidity. dew pointp to 55 degrees for the fog.

out of here. the cold? it's going to come. 20s to the north and west. 30s in cincinnati. that cold flood of air, if you will, is slow to move in. we have a cold front moving through slowly. pushing the rain east and eventually getting to the colder side of that front. the winds will switch and shift to the northwest as we go through time tomorrow. that's going to add the chill in the aiai new year's day is going to be cold with the wind blowing 15 to 20 miles an hour. there will not be a lot of sunshine tomorrow nor in to friday. evevtually we'll push the clouds farther south. sunshine in to the weekend. it should be a good one. all in all, it's going to be chillier. tonight, low level clouds. few breaks in the morning but not many. once we burn the fog off, though, we will see sunshine work through the clouds in the

clouds will win out not only tomorrow but again on friday. eventually we start to push these farther south on in to saturday. bigger changes for us at least in terms of getting back to sunshine. temperatures dropping down to the middle and upper 40s in the mountain valleys. it's going to be chillier. 50s and 60s for lows over the upstatat tonight. and forecast highs tomorrow. upper 50s asheville. looking for 60s as you go south in to the upstate. it's going to be a much milder trend down there. but all in all, these temperatures are cooler than most recently. new year's day, 48. happy new year. chilly on saturday, 47. sunday, 50. we even have our lows at night get down to the 20s several nights in a row. it's about time. no snow in the area. temperaturesesn the 50s saturday for the upstate.

killed in a wrong way crash in miami. it happened early this morning on i-95. a pick-up truck was driving in the wrong direction. several people were taken to the hospital. >> tammy: it happened this morning in mobile, alabama during rush ur. the 18-wheeler got struck in the entrance. traffic was shut down in both directions until it was clear. authorities had to let the air out of the tires to get it loose. >> larry: north carolina trying to extend one of sport's longest streaks.
