>> i was shocked because of the kids. >> rex: coolsten and shumpert say that kind of thing doesn't grey was arrested and placed in jail but was released when she posted her $5,000 bond. and dss is now involved with the welfare of the kids. and the investitition is ongoing. grey is scheduled for court coming up on january 13th. rex hodge, news 13. >> tammy: new details tonight, rutherford county sheriff chris francis says an inmate was not on suicide watch prior to his attempted suicide. >> larry: but he was seen several times by mental health professionals in the weeks leading up to the incident. >> tammy: kim, did they know he could be suicidal? >> kim: tammy, t t call came

houser was arrested onn october on multiple felony counts related to a standoff with police. hauser's attorney francis says nurses and mental health professionals interviewed hauser many times and did not feel he was suicidal. >> the nursing staff did see him i believe on five different occasions from that time as recent as monday. i don't think that was any suicidal tendencies ever came out during those meetings with professionals he had contact with. >> kim: francis shows us the multi-bed medical cell. francis said they wanted to keep him out of the general population. a lieutenant tells us that jail staff checked on hauser at 10:05

the suicide by hanging using a sheet in the room took place at 11:30 a.m. >> larry: about to become a new year and with that, new laws. voter identification will now be required in 2016 starting with the primary elections in march. and business owners will be able to sue employees who take video or photographs at the work place labeled the agag law by its opponents. some local farmers say that measure is not necessary if you treat your employees and animals the right way. >> i don't think those protections are necessary. >> i think it's important that we as farmers in general have conversations with consumers about the way their food is being raised. >> larry: for a full list of the new laws that will take effect

2016. now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> karen: even though we're drying out, we still have one flood warning, river flood warning on the french broad at blantyre. it is continuing to fall. it will take a while, though, before it goes below flood stage. so that flood warning is in effect through saturday. anybody who is out and about driving in that area tonight, be very careful with the river still out of its banks at that location. elsewhere we can see how the rain has moved out of the

the upstate. we do have plenty of clouds lingering, though. many of these clouds are going to stick around through new year's day. right now we actually have reports of breaks in the clouds and clear skies at the airport. 48 degrees. it is cold. feeling chillier than that with northwest winds at 21 miles per hour. not everywhere is this windy. certainly in the valleys, this wind has picked up. meanwhile in greenville, 60 degrees. much less windy. still warm. but you're going to be cooling down, too. we can see in the bigger picture, muchier chillier air moving down. cold air moving through the mountains. as you go out tonight for new year's eve festivities, again, it's not going to be anything out of the ordinary but we have not been this cold for quite a while. you'll feel the chilly changes,

high pressure moving out of the front. hour by hour future cast as we put it in to motion, we see the clouds hanging around all night long. we do begin the morning around 7 o'clock. mainly cloudy in the mountains. all day long we remain under this blanket of clouds. late in the afternoon on in to the evening, we do begin to clear out in locations north of i-40. continuing to clear out as we go on in to saturday. and saturday, really ending up to be a beautiful dry day. lows tonight around 37 in asheville. feeling that chill in franklin, one degree above freezing. much milder in parts of the upstate. greer 45. mainly cloudy for the first day of 2016. much cooler with a high of 48 degrees in asheville. many places stay in the 40s in the mountains for highs. that is going to lead in to a

go through the beginning of the year, the first weekend of 2016. and then much of the week ahead. look at all that sunshine. we really don't see any rain chances until thursday. but when they do come, they could come with a little bit of icing. cool temperatures going down in to the 20s many of these days. and we also see that cooldown in the upstate, too. yeah, we're going to get our winter. we just had to wait a little while for it. >> larry: but it's not a bad one. nothing brutal. >> karen: i think a lot of folks are ready for the change. ready to put away that rain gear for a while. >> tammy: nice to see the sunshine. clemson tigers in the national semi-finals.
