victim from the scene at dever view apartments. he was stabbed vpt his injuries were not life threatening. police questioned several witnesses outside where the victim lived, including princess gaynes, the mother accused of the stabbing. she says her daughter, monique gaynes, a college student home from winter break stabbed her boyfriend during an altercation about money and a cell phone. >> it happened so fast. i didn't know she had a knife. i said monique, what are you doing? >> reporter: her mother said she got in the car and fled away while udi bled. gaynes says her daughter was also scared. police say monique turned herself in hours later and is now facing charges. >> i said monique don't leave. she says i'm leaving.

she's a good person. never been in trouble. doing good in college. >> frank: police charged gaynes with assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury. >> darcel: jackson county residents are returning to their homes. they're recovering with help from each other, the red cross and the community. here's news 13's rex hodge. >> rex: a muddy mess is what's left behind now. earlier in the week, some of the folks that live in these trailers had to be evacuated. >> now i'm thinking it's dangerous to do. >> rex: mercedes and her husband clean up their trailer. they're okay. >> we're still alive. a little bit scary but still

how it started. iconic singer natalie cole has died at the age of 65. cole underwent a successful kidney transplant in 2009. her kidney troubles date back to 2008 when she was diagnosed with hepatitis c. cole attributed the illness to her struggles with cocaine and heroin. she had been sober for some time following stints in a rehabilitation clinic. her hits included this will be, unforgettable and inseparable. >> darcel: the rare winter flooding that's devastated much of the midwest has claimed 22 lives while at least four others are missing. tonight communities are still bracing for the mississippi river to crest.
