federal building in oregon. why they believe their actions justified by government overreach. now from western north carolina's news leader, this is news 13 at 6. >> frank: president obama is expected to announce an executive action any day now. the bypass congress and enact tougher restrictions on purchasing guns. it's a hot button issue that surfaces anytime there's a mass shooting or an election year. justin hinton joins us live at the ag center. justin, you found people there with opposing viewpoints on gun control. >> justin: that's right. from those selling the guns to those promoting the event. the gun and knife show had been operating at the wnc ag center for years. there were a lot of people in attendance over the two days. part of the reason, the 2016 election. the current president is expected to announce a new

45-year-old tiroane birch was found at the scene. detectives a the men knew each other. that this was not a random act of violence. armed protestors have taken over a building at a national wild life refuge in oregon. father and son ranchers who refused to sell their land. the hammonds were convicted of arson after a control burned on their property got out of hand. the group broke in to the unoccupied building and refused to leave. >> it is the people's facility. owned by the people. and it has been provided for us to be able to come together and unite and making a hard stand against this overreach.

and resources. >> frank: the group is armed. would not describe it as a militia. he was engaged in standoff last year with federal officials in nevada. his agency and the bureau of land management are aware of the armed protestors and are monitoring that situation. three people are being treated at a burn center after escaping a fire in barnardsville. the fire marshall is still investigating the blaze at the rock bridge apartments. hope hanselman explains how neighbors credit their landlord with getting everyone out. >> hope: fire destroyed the far end of this apartment building. >> they lost everything. >> hope: but it at least left some overwhelming feelings of

transported to the hospital. and all three of them were taken to the burn center. >> hope: neighbors s s one of the couples had just moved in the day before. >> they had a dog. i don't think the dog got out. >> hope: their concern as neighbors recover. but thankful someone was there to get them out. >> that feels good to know that your landlords are going to be up att 2 o'clock in the morning. whenever they get that call they're going to make sure their people are safe. >> frank: there was another fire in buncombe county today at a duplex in candler. this one started at a building at old wilson road. the occupants made it out safely but that one unit is a total loss. the other has major damage. the red cross is assisting

get ready for our first real blast of winter. the cold front may be bringing snow with it. karere wynne joins us with our skywatch forecast. >> karen: right, frank. many of us will the see the event. right now we see some snow across the northeastern u.s. we're talking pittsburg, pennsylvania. so it does have a ways to go. but it is coming and some of it could hold together as far south as the tennessee state line. right now we have cooled down to 44 in asheville. 44 in burnsville. 46. andrews. 39 in morganton. our winds not too brisk right now but that is going to be changing as we go through the night and the early morning. wind chills again, 40 in asheville.

>> frank: an overnight fire claims the life of a toddler in connecticut. that story tops tonight's news reel. crews were called to this bridgeport condominium. six people were inside. all but an 18-month old girl made it out. firefighters say they found her body under the crib in her bedroom. two other children, three adults were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire still under investigation. the smoke alarms had been disconnected. that's the likely calls. a woman claims recording artist chris brown hit her and took her phone and tried to take a photo of him. police say they have not yet gotten in touch with brown to get his side of the story.

in 2013, brown was charged with assault for hitting a man trying to jump in a photo he was trying to take with two women outside a hotel room. we are pretty much in the midst of waiting for the weather. here's meteorologist karen wynne. it is going to get cold and we might see something else as well. >> karen: yes, yes. time to throw out the s-word. snow possible in the higher elevations. more on that, of course, coming up. meanwhile today, overall a pretty nice day. 48 for the high. if you thought it was a bit chilly this morning, wait. i'll show you how windy we're going to get. how cold we're going to feel. we do have rain in the forecast. in the headlines, that forecast is coming with light snow.

now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> karen: well it's been a long way but ski resorts like cata loo many folks enjoyed the snow. more cold weather on the way for the ski resort. so this is going to be great for that industry. although we're going to be a little bit uncomfortable at times.

north winds at 7 miles per hour. also clear in greenville, calm 47 degrees. we have a little bit of cloud cover mainly to the south of the mountains. we'll see you the bigger picture. what we have going on is a clipper system. we can see the widespread light snow springing everywhere from new york through pennsylvania, down in to west virginia. we put this in to motion. it dives south ward on through here tomorrow morning bringing very strong winds and very cold air moving in behind it. canadian high pressure is going to set in over our region. we are in for a very chilly couple days ahead. lows dropping to the teens. wicked winds. and on top of that, light snow in some locations.

give you a better picture. we see one area of clouds move out. this clipper system moving in. by day break only a little bit of blue showing up right along the tennessee state line. by new, parts of mitchell and yancey county. we are talking light accumulations, if any. but down in asheville, we could see a few flurries. this is going to dry out as we go on in through the afternoon. we're looking at a windy and cold one. 10 degrees at day break tomorrow. that's as cold as it's going to feel. it really doesn't warm up much. staying in the teens and actually in the single digits in some parts of the region as we go on in to midnight, early tuesday morning. lower 20s for your lows tonight. feeling chillier than that. highs don't make it out in the
