stood behind the president as he made another emotional plea. his executive action expands background checks. overhaul the fbi's background checks system. >> this is not a plot to take away everybody's guns. if you pass the background check, you purchase a fire arm. >> reporter: gop reaction was swift calling it an attack on the second amendment. house speaker paul ryan said "rather than focus on criminals and terrorists, the president citizens." the father of one of the sandy hook victims says it's time for sensible gun control laws

preventable and we need your help. >> reporter: thursday, president obama will hit the road for gun control hall in west virginia. >> tammy: local gun shop employees listened closely to president obama's live announcement. at bear arms in brevard, the executive order has caught a lot of attention. but employees can't say if that's what's causing sales in the past weeks. employees say they've seen that the president's words caused a run on guns before. >> at one point there was mas hysteria on he was going to ban guns. people bought ammunition. people bought guns. but in that through history of it has happened. but recently, not much. >> tammy: employees say 2015 brought the highest gun sales on record, not just in brevard but

several lawmakers are also weighing in on the president's address. you can also see their statements on wlos.com. we asked for your thoughts on whether president obama should take executive action on gun control. the vote is currently 76% no. 24% yes. >> darcel: we have new information about a recent stabbing in haywood county. christopher arwood was arrested yesterday. he faces several charges. christopher hester is behind bars. a third suspect, stephanie bower is still on the run. the stabbing victim was treated and released. there's also new information about the body of a swain county man found in a local lake.

right now it's relatively low at 23%. the dew point is cold and our wind chill is 30 degrees. 38 degrees outside of greenville. northeast wind at 8. that's been biting all day. wind chill at 32 degrees. high pressure, the dominant weather force. carving out clear skies across the eastern 2/3 of the united states. eventually it's going to change because high pressure will have to move out of the way as he start to see another system out of the midwest. rain switching again right now south-southeasterly. that's going to help build the clouds in. the clouds will come late in the day tomorrow and certainly in to thursday. thereafter, rainfall. and we need something i guess more of a kicker to get that rain going. cold front to the west of us friday. another system south. now we're split in between here

funneling of moisture from the atlantic and the gulf of mexico. rain is likely for the area again friday in to saturday. future cast. clear skies. that's going to allow our temperatures to bottom out in the teens if not colder in the morning. high thin clouds later in the day tomorrow. thicken up as we get in t t thursday. there's thursday evening and in to friday overnight it's going to be on the cloudier side. temperatures again in the teens for many valleys tonight. 12 in the valley. boone, you're matching that. 20s over the upstate under clear skies. look at the rebound tomorrow. folks. 50 in some places over the southen mountain. we'll take that. we'll pay the price. rain is likely friday and saturday. continue that chance of rain sunday. it gets cold next week. may even work in some more snow showers. there you go.
