coats, gloves and hats. we give those out daily when clients come in to us. we also have a need for money for food and for food donations. >> monetary donations for food supplies are thesed as well as the donations of hats, coats and blankets. you can drop off items at the storehouse located at 1049 spartanburg highway. >> western carolina rescue ministry on patten avenue received an affordable housing grant to fund a portion of the project but the shelter must raise a remainder of the money to complete the first of two phases. phases. >> on the first phase is being able to accommodate our -- not just our current need but even the future need from an overnight shelter standpoint.

>> it seriously undermines international airports. i condemn it. >> worldwide concern and condemnation after this announcement from north korean state media claiming a 5.1 magnitude earthquake near the country's nuclear testing facility yesterday was caused by north korea's first successful test of a hydrogen bomb. the weapon can be about 10,000 times more powerful than atomic bombs, like those dropped on hiroshima in world war ii. this would be the country's fourth time testing the nuclear weapon since 2006 but the first time testing a they are thermo nuclear weapon. the results could take months but already many are skeptical.

although it is cold, we can look out your window and see that. in south arville, we have a few clouds, that's it. a lot of sun and 35 degrees and still chilly to start off the afternoon. take a look through the time lapse. you can follow that, it starts at 9:17 this morning. and it is showing very little. we have a few clouds pulling in from the west here, not making it back into western north carolina just yet. sunshine expected for the majority of the afternoon. still have just that trace for the year for precip, not expecting any today. later this week we have our chances for rain going up and lingering into the weekend as well. almanac this morning, unseasonably cold, 16 degrees is as cold as we got to at asheville airport. this is the box where we show

only 35 degrees because normal is 37. it is pretty much the same type of weather, a degree warmer here in asheville and 2 degrees warmer into greenville as of now. still overall very chilly. in fact, barely above freezing in burnsville. 35 in asheville right now, upper 30's for morganton. greenville. 39, 38 degrees down into the upstate. warm and 41 into columbia. the wind has picked up at 7 miles an hour. also down into greer at 9. there is a windchill outside. it feels like 29 in asheville. you still need a winter coat upstate. in greer, it feels like 31. let's take a look at the big picture. still have high, dry pressure controlling our weather, mild conditions expected the next couple of days. the jet stream is to our north, allow some warmer conditions into the region. i want to move forward in time

we see a few clouds enter the region through the overnight hours. that's when we could see showers. then through friday, just a few showers showing up on this model as well. into saturday, we keep that chance in the forecast, although not looking like a ton of rain is going to fall, which is good because we have plenty of it in our rivers from all the rain we have had already in december. mostly sunny this afternoon and likely warming up to the low 40's here in the asheville area. somewhat milder, tonight because of the clouds, it will be partly clear and not as cold. this is 10 degrees above what we got down to last night. it will still be below freezing but not as cold. 45 degrees and sunshine in greenville. we have a chance late day thursday for a few showers. same thing friday into the weekend weekend. notice our overnight lows are above freezing.
