for snow tomorrow night. forecast. >> jason: the wind will be cranking across the area, 25-30 miles per hour. country by then. right now we're dealing with clear skies mostly. up the road in boone, it's 29. there's a big difference because they had more wind. temperatures falling in to the 30s in the upstate. you're still warmer than most of us in the mountains. the calm wind is helping our temperature drop, too, in asheville. wind speeds across the eastern half of the united states. you can see they're picking up a little more over the ohio valley. back over the great lakes. casper, wyoming, has sustained wind at 30. a lot of this wind is going to stay north from the ohio river stretching east ward in to the great lakes and eventuallyew

the city planning and zoning commission gave the bb & t the green light to renovate making way for 140 hotel rooms, 39 condominiums and retail space. the exterior will take on a whole new look as well. an updated, brighter facade. we gave folks on the street a glimpse of the future. >> definitely an eye sore at the revamping. >> it looks like it's going to add some aesthetic value to the area. you know. and that's not bad. >> and it is angly building but we're all so used to it by this point. >> frank: many argued there are already too many hotels going up that adding another in the heart of downtown just won't do. >> it's really unsustainable to

infrastructure and that it won't be able to maintain itself or have space for all the cars or all the people. >> frank: but the developer promises parking and 100 jobs that will pay a living wage that meets or exceeds asheville's standards. there is in fact the bb & t will not involve a new building. >> i think it's more sustainable than building a whole new building and using new materials. i definitely see more downfalls than pros. >> i'm sure they've done some studies to determine that it would be an economic asset. >> frank: all the issues will be on the table tomorrow night. the public gets to weigh in. if city council approves this project, the hotel renovation, the work could begin this spring. reporting live in asheville, frank kracher, news 13. >> darcel: investigators don't

weaverville man was suspicious. the fire started yesterday morning in t t living room of his home. but investigators don't know yet how. jack penland, an original member of the stoney creek boys blue grass man was killed in the fire. >> we could have a love offering this coming sunday. and otherwise provide for brenda and for pat and others in the family who are going through a difficult time. >> darcel: you can find out how to help on wlos.com. fire investigators say it was a heating system malfunction that put an asheville family out in the cold early this morning. a home on north bear creek road went up in flames around 3:30. the family says they heard a pop and then their smoke alarms went off.

flames. a husband, wife and their four teenage sons made it out safely. >> it's important to have a working smoke detector in your house in your sleeping areas to alert you. most of the fires will occur during night time hours when everybody is asleep. you need to be able to get awake and get out. >> darcel: fire officials remind everyone to have their heating equipment serviced often. >> larry: henderson county is having a tourism boom with new two hotels going up. a holiday express and a windham hotel is under construction off airport road. last year, 200,000 people from 29 countries visited. >> we keep numbers on everybody. we try and click as many is we can coming through and we broke our record this past year. >> larry: a study that could

more changes are coming to downtown hendersonville to improve parking. sooner than expected thanks to a downtown development grant. movingng the sidewalk along king street to the inside of the lot. >> we had a very positive response to the changes that we made to the maple lot last year, which included aesthetic improvements to the lighting and the lot and the planting and so on and so forth. which is some of the changes we're making here. >> larry: the azalea lot will not be getting anymore parking spaces. >> darcel: the death of david bowie has a tribute band remembering him. mark casten is originally from england. he does a great david bowie

mark created the wham bam bowie band that plays all over north carolina and sometimes new york city. >> i think the best way to remember david bowie is as an innovator. he was an artist in the true sense of the word. >> darcel: the band will play a special bowie tribute concert february 6th at isis in west asheville. investigators say three people tried to rob a credit union but couldn't get inside. >> larry: and the tigers and the

it happened in sampson county yesterday morning at the child's father's convenience store. police say the boy got the gun behind the cash register while the father was rolling coins. police will determine if charges will be filed. a teenager accused of making a threat in the name of isis will be charged. accused of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor. warren was already charged with making a threat and having weapons on school property. deputies say he stood up in class, said he had a bomb and that he tried to join isis. deputies are investigating if he had any actual ties to terrorism. >> larry: happening right now the clemson tigers are taking on alabama for the national championship. for fans who couldn't make the

up in the high country, avery county. teens in many cases across the mountain valleys. they go lower than that by midnight tomorrow night. single digits above and below zero for wind chills. now that's how it will feel. it won't be the actual air temperature. we'll still get cold with the air temperatures in the teens. here's the future cast in terms of cloud cover, snow, and rain. we don't have anything to worry about in daybreak. i think madison, yancey, mitchell and avery county, you're going to benefit most from the snowfall. it could add up to about an inch. the wind will crank up in the area. especially late day tomorrow right in to early wednesday. how much snow can we see? most of the snows will be well north. you get in to yancey county, could see a little bit.

maybe more in to avery and watauga counties. temperatures in the teens tonight for the mountains north. we'll see low 20s by day break in asheville and hendersonville. you'll find teens and 20s mixed over the southern mountain regions. upper 20s in the upstate. there will be spots that get down colder than that. tomorrow's high temperatures. it's a warm up. it's about average this time in asheville. mid 40s. newland and boone in the now we go colder wednesday. there it is. 38 degrees for the high. lows in the 20s for the next several nights. but we're going to warm it up. 51 will do it for the warmest temperatures in terms of highs. slight cool off friday. by the end of the weekend, we'll have a shot of rain and snow.
