the floor. >> tammy: a man put the gun up to their head and told them to hand over here cash. >> darcel: news 13's kimberly king is live outside the dollar general. kim, what new information do you have? >> kim: darcel, we've listened to the 911 calls made seconds after the man left the dollar general store. it was a terrifying night for the clerk and also the customers inside who thought they may lose their lives. >> hello, we just got robbed. a man came in with a gun and shot at the ceiling and put it to a man's head. >> i was begging him don't shoot us. >> kim: a gunman inside here at 8:40 last night. >> he had a ski mask. he was almost six feet tall. >> scariest thing i've been through.

i thought i was going to get shot. i was worried for the girls. >> kim: something caught his eye in the back of the store. >> as i was turning back i heard the gun shot. it stunned me. i turned and i saw the fellow standing there. he had the gun in the air. and of course he fired and he said everybody down. >> kim: the suspect was just inside the front glass doors. >> told me to get down and give him my money. my billfold was already on the ground. he put the gun right on that mother. she's holding her little baby in her arms and he told her to give him the money. >> kim: brenda saw one of the three suspects hiding on the property. >> the guy was behind some chairs and everything. >> kim: deputies got under the deck and made arrest.

is one they'll never forget. back outside, it's business as usual. after this armed robbery. three suspects were arrested. the man inside and also a man and a woman, all three we're told were from columbia and are in the buncombe county jail. $2,300 was stolen from the store. reporting live from the dollar general in fairview, kimberly king, news 13. >> tammy: there is new information surrounding a recent stabbing in haywood county. a third person wanted in the case is now behind bars. authorities arrested stephanie bower. she's arrested in connection with a stabbing last month. christopher arwood and christopher hester were also arrested in the case. >> darcel: it happened as they searched a bag of clothes that

an officer was inspecting a pair of socks when a white powder came out and went in to the air. an investigator tested it and found it was meth. deputies say the jailers were taken to the hospital to be checked out and all are okay. >> the primary concern in that was if law enforcement was doing what they needed to do and our jailer was doing what he needed to do. primary concern was for our employees. >> darcel: kenneth blevins is charged. he was released on a $5,000 bond. >> tammy: waynesville leaders are looking for a new town manager. they voted this week to terminate the current town manager's contract. rex, what reasons are they giving?

o'neil has done a good job. creating a morale problem. the vote was close, 3 to 2, to terminate marcy o'neil's contract. alderman gary caldwell, leeroy robinson sided with ending it. while he says many town employees like her, he says there is a significant number who are dissatisfied with her management style and decisions. without going in to detail due to confidentiality reasons, he says there's a pervasive morale problem among workers. >> i found that the only way to address that was to going in a different direction. >> if somebody is better suited for the job then they should look for somebody else to fill that position. >> rex: residents want the best

so does marcy o'neil who says she is still working cooperatively until january 29th to ensure a smooth transition. in a statement to board members, she did tell them there are things to deliver on. stating she can't change her gender. and she's not lee galloway. used to provide services to the town. that did not influence his vote. >> i do not have, nor have i had in over three years, a financial interest with the town of waynesville. >> rex: and the board will meet next tuesday to choose an interim manager and discuss how it goes about searching for a

rex hodge, news 13. >> darcel: an update on last night's power outage in asheville. duke energy says an equipment failure was to blame. about 4,000 people lost power when a regulator that controls voltage caught fire at the biltmore substation. crews were working to repair that substation today. they're still trying to determine why the equipment failed. >> tammy: heads up for drivers heading towards future i-26. >> darcel: jaclyn, lanes are closed near new stock roads due to a vehicle fire. >> jaclyn: darcel, this vehicle fire is on the east bound side of lake bridge. dot expects it to reopen just after 5:30. an accident near brevard road is causing big problems this afternoon. we're dealing with about a seven mile back up because of this wreck. avoid that area if you can. heads up for drivers over in jackson county.

on the west side of asheville. over the holidays folks noticed there were some big changes and they contacted us. sandy cox was one of several viewers who reached out to us on facebook and social media. this was her question: do you know why the wendy's on patton avenue closed down. this wendy was located there for a long time. as you can see the sign has been taken down and there's a sign for sale right outside. well a sign on the door says it's permanently closed and it closed on thursday, december 24th. the chain thanked its customers for 40 years of loyalty and pointed them to the three other nearby locations. but it gives no real reason for why it shut down. so we contacted their corporate office. i spoked with the president of the franchisee, the tar heal corporation in boone. he says, "the lease in the building and our franchise

in order to renew the franchise agreement, we would have to upgrade the store to a modern facility. it just wasn't feasible. he says the patton location was not one of its best performers. so they decided to move on. all of its wendy's crew from this location are still working with the company. and it's at other locations and nobody lost their job. he says they are grateful for all of their customers and look forward to seeing them at one of their many other locations. we contacted pulliam, the real estate broker handling the property to see if somebody else may be moving in. tenant. but right now no one has made a deal to take over the old wendy's location.

to fall tomorrow during the daylight hours. it does get cold enough that a few snow flakes gets mixed in. look at this sunday, 30% chance. we've seen dropped it lower because the system that had one of the models solution bringing us a decent snow. it's not going to happen. 20% chance of lingering snow come monday. it is going to be a lot colder. 56 degrees. it is beautiful outside if you can get out and enjoy the remaining daylight. south-southeast wind at three. 23% humidity. two systems again. one up here in the upper midwest. we won't worry about that. it's the south, southern portions of south carolina and georgia. that puts rain on us because

for any of us to get any snowfall. but there will be some higher elevations that will get a little bit of snow. what do we mean here? future cast. timing it out here at 8 o'clock this evening. watch the clock roll ahead here. there's 9:00 a.m. right here. notice the blue on the legend up here. that is snowfall in the balsams. the nantahalas. some of that snow works in to haywood county around 11:00 a.m. watch by the lunch hour, pretty much everything has changed over to rain. most of us by then, if not all of us, will have rain, not snow. again, when i say the snow, do not expect it in the valleys. it's 3500 feet and higher up. so you gotta be pretty high to see this snow fall. rain's gone by evening tomorrow. then we're back in to the clouds early saturday. waiting on the next round of moisture

for the most part, very light accumulations. i think this is under done. i still think we're going to get a quarter inch to maybe half an inch in asheville. snowfall. there's your legend up here. look at that, smokys, balsams, nantahalas could get an inch of snow. temperatures freezing overnight in most mountain valleys. you think to yourself, well jason, you're going 30-31 in asheville, how is it not going to snow here? the temperatures go up tomorrow morning. it's going to be wet for the majority of the daylight hours. then we get colder. a lot colder. 14. but again, snow? where is it? >> tammy: there it is. a little sprinkle maybe. >> darcel: a few weeks. we'll see. still to come, a unique competition.
