temperatures to put out on early morning house fire. the fire forced a mother and child out of the home. after the flames were out, crews had to work on hot spots near the chimney and attic. subfreezing temperatures made the job especially tough. >> especially hard because it takes water to put the fire out. the water is freezing. we are trying to rotate them in and out. >> ice crystal form as firefighters worked to keep hoses from freezing. thankfully no one was hurt. it felt like below zero. how much has it warmed up. >> it has warmed up some. you feel for those guys out there. of course, the woman who was the occupant of the home. 17 in black mountain, the news

one of those days, you can't stay inside, probably a good idea. probably want to stay inside today. winter weather advisory, i promise we talk about the snow and here we go. 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning through 7:00 a.m. higher elevations, doesn't mean we won't see any here in asheville. i'll show you that in a second, how much we'll see. radar and satellite, clear skies this afternoon as we showed you on the mountains. it is sunny but it is still cold. 21 is as warm as we have gotten since midnight. we were down to 11 at the asheville airport. with that wind, it felt like 3 below zero at some times throughout the morning hours. 31 in franklin, 28 in and i reduce. 22 up towards knoxville. 19 in burnsville. 10 degrees warmer in forest city. charlotte 30 degrees. rock hill, 29. the warmest i'm seeing on the

all across the southeast feeling the cold weather. 17 in boone. 12 in asheville, out of the north, this is our wind speed. thankfully the upstate not as windy. it does feel very cold. one at burnsville, 7 into hendersonville. not as cold in our eastern zones. let's look at the future cast for the windchills, 2:00 p.m., still feeling like 4 in burnsville. 20 out towards silva. waynesville at 13. the windchill at 1 through haywood county. further south it will feel below freezing. continuing to see colder temperatures and then we see the chance for snow. let's take a closer look, this is the big picture across the entire southeast.

move through the region on wednesday. then we'll see a break. on saturday, this is going to be several days that we have the opportunity for winter weather, dangerous conditions out there for your morning and evening commute. we start to see clouds develop as early as 5:00 a.m. through all the asheville area, this could affect schools. kids getting out of school, heavier bands of snow, possibly a mix down into the upstate, maybe some flurries mixed in there. 6:00 p.m., we see clearer skies starting off on thursday, maybe a lingering snow shower or two. then we see temperatures drop below freezing and a chance for a mix on thursday night. how much where we live?

we are not under the advisory, it is pulling in anywhere from half an inch to maybe even an inch in the higher elevations in buncombe county. these zones in the blue under those advisories could see one to three inches of snow. 30 for a high temperature. it is going to be very cold. another cold one tonight, 16 degrees. although this is not as cold as what we have seen in the past couple of nights because of the increased cloud cover. 38 degrees in greenville and clouds develop tonight. the cold, 22. 50% chance for that snow tomorrow. 40% chance mainly late day thursday to see the transition from rain to snow. rain and snow on friday and it is a 70% chance and leads into the first half of the weekend. temperatures staying at 35 saturday in the up state upstate. >> download our weather app. it is free, it is give you the

search wlos in the app store. a plane goes down in utah killing two people. that story starts today's newsreel. the jet caught fire and crashed. officials say a husband and wife from tucson, arizona were on board. witnesses reported seeing and feeling an explosion. >> some heard the boom from more than a mile away from where the aircraft ended up on the ground. they describe feel the boom as well. that tells you it is a fairly sizable event. >> authorities say the debris field covers a mild. they are sifting through the pieces to determine the cause of the crash. >> we have an update on a murder-suicide near the state university of new york. police now say a relationship breakup was the motive. three student athletes were found stabbed to death sunday morning. investigators say collin ngston with his ex-girlfriend with another man in her apartment and killed them both before killing himself.

glen fry has died. the eagles in the 1970's including one of the best of my life and hotel california. fry played guitar. he took lead vocal duties. he died of health complications, he was 67. >> two big names in hollywood are skipping the oscars out of protests. the hash tag oscar has been trending on twitter after no african americans were nominated in the best acting or directing categories this year. jada pinkett smith and spike lee announced they will boycott the ceremonies. >> dolly parton celebrates her 70th birthday. parton is one of the most honored country music performers of all time. she has eight grammys, seven academy of music awards. the singer has supported a number of charitable efforts and started her own charity. the dollywood foundation in
