>> tammy: we are bracing for another round of winter weather. >> darcel: we've already been dealing with the bitter cold temperatures. now it looks like snow is on the way. >> tammy: we begin with chief meteorologist jason boyer. jason, what can we expect? jrjts we can expect flakes beginning to fly as early as tomorrow morning. it is not a major system but it's going to be the biggest snow system we've seen pretty much all winter long in asheville. in is not the storm we're talking about toward the end of the week. nothing like it. in fact, that's probably going to be a bigger storm for us. this is the storm we're watching tonight. little snow bands right through kansas city, iowa. start to energize some snowfall, if you will, across the area later on tonight. bands of snow around day break tomorrow. already working in the

jackson, swain, graham county. heavier snow bands may hold off until afternoon tomorrow. i'm thinking two to three, top end four inches in some of the highest elevations close to the tennessee border. snow comes on friday. 20s right now for temperatures in most mountain valleys. you go farther west, you'll find 30s. breezy and very cold this evening. by 11 o'clock, we're down to 17 with wind chills in the single digits possibly. i'll show you when to expect snow fall in asheville as well. stick around. >> darcel: keeping warm was definitely the focus for those working outdoors today. >> tammy: karen, it was tough for anyone that was working outside today. >> karen: tammy, it was. the workers that we talked to

now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> jason: well the first round of wintery weather is coming our way tonight and tomorrow, folks. most of this is going to be a mountain event especially west of 26 and south of i-40. weather alerts, we got one now. could see a total of 1 to 3 inches of snow. the higher elevations would be favored to the higher snow

jackson, macon, clay, cherokee. buncombe and transylvania and henderson are not included in the advisory, doesn't mean we're not going to see snow, we will. but the impacts from it will be minimal. i think up to a half an inch of snow in asheville will be doable. then you get in to georgia, more ice than anything else here. and that could complicate travel, too. keep that in mind. 27 degrees in asheville. sunny skies. north-northwest wind at 15. dropping the wind chill down to 15. another day of wind. another day of very cold temperature. so the arctic chill is here. here's the system we're tracking coming across the mississippi river today. spreading snow by day break. it spreads east and kind of fizzles out. that is a minor system. minor compared to the one that's coming this weekend. here's our next system diving

coming from texas, rolling along the gulf coast and rolling north. this is key, if it goes in the middle of tennessee, we're looking at an icing event. rain and freezing rain. then snow on the back side of it. if it goes south, we're going to get a lot of snow. there's a lot of uncertainty. we're about 48 hours out from this thing really comingn to the forecast. the storm track, if it goes south, we're in snow mostly here in western north carolina. that puts heavy snow up in the virginias and mid-atlantic. if the snow goes farther north, that puts us in that wintry mix limiting that amount of snow fall. i know you're seeing forecasts online that say 20 inches of snow by the weekend. do not think that because that is not the forecast that i'm putting out there. there's the snow fall wednesday afternoon. the first system coming in slamming the mountains with snow fall. one to three inches again before

we'll get our shot of snow in asheville late afternoon in to the evening hours. it will stick mostly to grassy surfaces. we watch thursday. start very quiet. start to get more active late day. thursday night in to friday morning. here's that wintery mix for pink in areas in asheville. snow mixed along with rain. a complete mixed bag with that system. future cast snowfall. the first round coming tomorrow. inch and a half in bryson city. robbinsville over an inch and a water. a quarter inch will do it, maybe half an inch in asheville. temperatures in the teens tonight. it's going to be mighty cold no matter where you go. what does fall will melt by the end of the day in most cases. our tempererures will go briefly in to the 40s. all eyes, all the social media
