we had flakes flying in the camera. >> that's what everyone is wanting to know about. let's look at a spot. this is western carolina university. 28 degrees on our legser carpet sales news 13 skycam network. it is 29 at balsam gap. this is showing light snow on secondary roads. still some of those flurries could land on top of that and create slick conditions for now. 33 in asheville. no snow at the moment but we have a future cast model that shows snow around the corner for this afternoon. i'll talk about a second round of snow significant snowfall, who will see the most friday and that's coming up. >> an update on breaking news we brought you at the top of the newscast. schools call for an early release. on the way to drop off students at home, a bus slid on an icy patch of road. ashley is live near the school where that accident happened.

students on that bus at the time. >> that's right. thankfully no injuries have been reported. this bus was going down a steep hill, started to slide for about 45 seconds from what we can tell and then was able to stop. we can show you where the bus ended up landing crossway in the road. there were seven kids on the bus at the time. it happened around 10:15. there were middle and high schoolers. we talked to one student who said no one on the bus appeared to be upset or scared during the incident incident. >> the ice got the better of us and we slid off the side. >> witnesses in the area say the bus was riding very slowly. they say the risk was high. there is a steep drop with a creek below on the side of the road road.

kids remained on the bus until the d.o.t. was able to salt and sand the road. the fire department was the one that responded to the incident. they responded to five other car accidents in this area. the road was pretty slick. >> news 13 lauren brigman joins us. students were dismissed around 9:30 this morning. >> right. conditions changed quickly once students arrived here to school. that's what prompted the early release. as you can see, there is not a trace of snow to be found here outside of irwin middle. we were here earlier this morning as that first snowfall fell. worked quickly to get students on the way home with a light snow already on the ground, parents in the pickup line outside the school were ready for what mother nature may bring us next. those we spoke with say they

release students early ahead of additional snow on the way. . school officials say with no snow, they continue to keep a close eye on the forecast before deciding to release when they did. >> we saw there will be a lull in the forecast, we thought for the dismissal, it was best to go ahead and look at an earlier one for fear of another squall coming through. >> school officials say evidence is key when making a weather related decision. when we record that decision to you this morning when it was released before 9:00 a.m. school officials say today will count as a student day for buncombe county. officials with the school system plan to be back on the roads at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow monitoring conditions with another round of snow expected. stay with wlos and wlos.com for

delays for tomorrow as well.well. >> not a lot of snow right now. things are going to change. >> we are seeing snow fall across portions of the region. let's take a closer look, northern counties in haywood county. seeing a mix of precipitation north of bryson county. cherokee county seeing the heavier bands as well. like the snow possibilitiespossibilities. i want to show you the next hour here where it is showing some heavier bands beginning to enter western north carolina. this is looking likely over the next hour to two hours. we'll see the snowfall. we are not out of the woods. we saw the light snow, reduced

that snow continuing to fall. the advisory in effect. one to three inches, all of these counties shaded in purple does include us in buncombe. the northern part of the county as usual will likely see more than the southern portion. winter storm warning. so this means three to five inches through tomorrow morning for graham county. 33 is the current condition in asheville. 29 in burnsville. round one, round two. we are currently in round one. seeing the snow, the mixed precipitation that you just saw on that map showing some of the green, some of the pink, rain further south then into friday and again on saturday we'll see the snow. it will be a significant snowfall across the region. future cast model at 2:00, as i promised you, it mimics what i see on the other model. through 3:00, kids are still in

things get messy even into the upstate, a mix if possible. northern mountains still holding onto that snow chance through dinner time. a messy evening commute. 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, black ice, but not until late day, 6:00 p.m. untilil 8:00 p.m. we see the mix once again into friday morning and then we'll start to see the heavy snow begin to fall. round one through tomorrow morning, this is the legend showing how much snow will fall where you live. northern mountains two to four inches possible. one to three in northern buncombe county, northern jackson county and possibly into macon. half an inch, maybe an inch in lower elevations. a dusting into ththe upstate. a moderate level for snow and black ice. this is round two, 12 plus

counties. forto eight in the turquoise. one to three in the white. we are talking about a significant winter storm the next couple of days and into the first part of the weekend. think its for highshighs. tonight the possibility of freezing rain, worst case scenario so keep a close eye on news 13 to monitor that. 39 degrees for a high in greenville and possibility of slick conditions even down into the upstate today and tonight. looking at the next three days, wirpt ri mix, 90% chance friday. 70% chance, should be an all snow event. temperatures will be cold enough in the upstate, maybe a mix today but likely more rain than anything for you. >> as we mentioned, there are already school announcements. we have those at the bottom of your screen. be sure to stay with news 13. we will be posting updates on

fresh cilantro, toasted sesame seeds and honey. >> keep the dressing for many things. take the kale the day before and after i have washed it, cleaned it and trimmed it, i add the dressing to the kale and let it sit overnight. >> softens it up a little bit. the kale basically, you want to clean it and you want to take these ribs out. cut the ribs out of the kale. you don't want something chewey, the leaves are nice and tender. cut it up into bite sized pieces. >> some massage it.

that is a good idea to do that as well. >> then you get your kale, put it in the bowl, let it marinade overnight. then you can add the dressing to it. let it refrigerate. then after that is all done, you'll take all your kale after it marinaded and you are going to add some julienne red pepper fresh. some julienne red onion. ed mamie, these are shell. >> you can buy those in the freezer section, in the regular section. >> real popular and brown rice. >> brown rice, interesting. >> it gives it more texture. >> and probably make it more filling. >> absolutely. >> and some diced pineapple. >> so you have the acid from the dressing and then the sweetness of the pineapple. basically we'll toss all that together. >> probably some chicken or even

from the department of education. >> the scam was simple, either find and steal social security numbers and birth dates of victims and use that information to apply for a student loan from the government. >> whether an application was submitted, it would generate a check. the check would be mailed to the suspects. >> the funds were deposited into personal accounts. >> when the checks would get cashed, the ring leaders would get most or all of the money depending on the scenario behind it. the majority of it would go to the people. >> those ring leaders recruited 20 people paid to find the personal information used to apply for the loans. >> the criminal organization business is to generate money. many of these folks are very, very skilled at convincing people to do things they would not otherwise do. >> postal inspectors have important advice, always safe guard your personal information.
