companies have been. >> now from western north carolina's news leader, this is news 13 at 11:00. we're still feeling the affects of the latest winter storm. bitter cold now. meteorologist. >> overnight, a lot of wind. early tomorrow some wind. then in the afternoon and evening tomorrow the wind begins to relax. because of the wind and freezing temperatures we have winter weather advisories out through 17 tomorrow morning. watch out in these areas. black ice on the roads. disappears. believe me. there's still snow flying in some of the higher elevations closer to the tennessee border. a lot of it faded. burst of snow at times over the smokeys but really the idea

accumulations if not all of it. they are not done in the northeast. hammer town for the areas along the i-95 corridor. even in boston and arrest farther east. they are getting a lot of snow. this is going to be an interesting theme. they have two feet plus in some places there. our snow amounts will be minimal, if anything a light coating in the highest elevations. we do have the blowing snow on the lester carpet sales sky cam network. you see the snow blowing and melting on the lens as it runs into it. 21 degrees there. bitter cold. blowing snow. low windchill value, below 0 in some cases and black ice is a big issue. sunday afternoon the melt kicks in. the sunshine will help the process and our temperatures should get above freezing at almost all locations. it makes a difference with the snow pack and how deep it is, right, karen? >> karen: yeah. a lot of people are counting

show you how we stack up all time snow events in asheville. >> tonight emergency crews still asking people to stay off the roads even though the interstates look pretty good. >> justin hinton joins us live fron asheville. >> how are conditions now? >> we've been battling the wind, to say the least. but we've been driving all around the area trying to check out some of the roads. we found the interstates look good but like jason said, it's the freezing road conditions and that precipitation that's making it difficult for some drivers with hitting some slick spots. if you look out here around the downtown area, we're seeing some pretty clear roads taking place. we should note the governor announced ncdot sent eight employees and seven pieces of equipment from the eastern part of the state to this region to help with this storm. that is taking place. and so the roads here are looking pretty good.

haven't been getting a lot of attention. as the highways and interstates return to normal, there's a different look for the secondary roads. littered with snow. >> some complications. >> and people out and about that opted out of driving. >> i didn't want to take my car out. i'm on my way home now. >> for those brave enough to battle the mix by vehicle it hasn't always been good. >> i see people in the ditch. people having to get a ride. reporter: whether passenger vehicles or semi trucks l battling the elements. part of the reason plows are out but making fewer trips through these less traveled roads. >> you have a small car with not that much power you probably can't drive very good. reporter: leaving some folks to find alternative modes of transportation. >> i want to avoid it the all costs. >> the big question is when

to disappear? well, i was talking to a city official today and he tells me starting tomorrow morning they are going to begin removing some of the snow you'll see in downtown asheville. live in asheville, justin hinton, news 13. tow truck companies working overtime to help driving that couldn't get through the mess. that's especial sli true on the secondary roads. then there are all those snow filled parking lots to contend with, as well. >> and there's still quite a bit of work to be done. >> people hired plow drivers to do all they can. aaron joins us live. >> how successful were they? >> frank, in the parking lot we're in in henderson county, everythihi is frozen solid. just to give you an example, this huge ice chunk. you can't even make a snowball out of this. because of things like that the tow trucks and plows are having problems earlier.

sledding accidents. >> mission hospital says six patients have been treated for sledding related injuries during the snowstorm. the doctor urges you to use your head and your head gear. >> i encourage folks to wear a helmet. >> we take extra precautions. helmet, gloves, try to keep them hydrated and have fun. >> another hurtful part is shovelling. often causing back injuries and heart attacks. but we often forget that sledding can be so exhilarating it hurts. and keeping safety in mind is a slide in the right direction. >> just don't do anything dangerous out here. >> each year some twenty thousand people are treated just for sledding related injuries. as for shovelling, another eleven thousand. in brevard, john lee, news 13. put that gear on. >> keep the mask on. keep the face warm. you need it tonight.

windchills in the single digits. blowing snow also with that wind. black ice. sunday we get back into the changes already. sunshine is back. we begin to melt off some of the snow and ice. it's going to be days before all that snow and ice is gone. especially the secondary roads where it's hard and packed down in the shade. not much melting here. even in the afternoooo. there's our storm. say good-bye to it finally. they are starting to see it end. still snow at the coast. we're back into much quieter weather. where do we rank in this snowstorm compared to the stop six ever in asheville? >> the blizzard the top of the list. 18.2 inches in march of 93. january 26th-27, 1906 -- frank do you remember that one? no.

even in the up state you've got to windchill down to 23 degrees. much lighter wind. here are your future cast wind speeds. we were talking about the w wd energy with the storm. it's going to be a major factor overnight. sustained winds 15-20. higher than that with the gusts. notice the winds coming down here. by sundayy afternoon down in the single digits in terms of wind speeds and quieter than that overnight and into monday. calm considering how gusty they are right now. cloud free conditions later on tonight. in the morning back to sunshine. most mountain locations north. the winds relax and turn southerly in sunday afternoon and that means milder temperatures build into the forecast. 40s for highs sunday. it's going to feel like a heat wave compared to recently. then we see changes tuesday into wednesday. clouds come in and we'll get a little bit of a possible wintery mix going.
