your screen... and on w-l-o-s dot com. it's cold enough for black ice to be a major problem this morning after snow melt yesterday. let's check in with ingrid in the sky watch weather center. good morning. here is a look at current conditions across the region. your day planner shows temperatures warming by noon. coming up, i'll show you our 7-day forecast for both the mountains and upstate. 3 3 3 3 the winter storm caused three deaths in the upstate. the bodies of an elderly couple were found in their home in greenville. authorities say cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. the couple lost power during the storm friday night and put a generator in their garage. also in greenville county, a

pedestrian. officials say the victim was walking along a road when the driver slid on a patch of ice and struck him. 3 3 a dump truck accident caused traffic trouble on i-26 in buncombe county. it happened near the brevard road exit, close to the asheville outlets. authorities say the truck was hauling salt when it blew a tire and slammed into a guardrail. no one was hurt in the crash, but one lane of the interstate was closed for a while. it is back open now. 3 3 in henderson county, high winds brought down a tree that nearly crushed a disabled man in his home. the tree was completely uprooted. johnny bland, who recently had neck surgery, was sitting in a chair when the tree fell on the roof right over him. 3 2:12 had my feet propped up all of a sudden i heard cover the roof start cracklin crumblin, cover 2:34 i was underneath it underneath the limbs and yonder )cover 2:50 and i had to finally climb from under there and crawl back into the kitchen just to get out from under there) bland's daughter, who was on the other side of the trailer,

the red cross is now helping the family as bland looks for 3 3 this morning... dozens of states will attempt to get back to normal, after a powerful snowstorm paralyzed the mid-atlantic and northeast.3 the snowfall was historic. a bird's-eye view from this drone -- flying above baltimore -- provides a snapshot of how much snow fell. new jersey is also facing a major flooding issue . chunks of ice and feet of water lined the streets as many homes were submerged under water. more than 14- thousand flights were cancelled as a result of the blizzard. 3 3 a massive backup on the pennsylvania turnpike... that began on friday night... left drivers stuck for days. both lanes finally reopened last night. the back up began friday night around 8:30, when a tractor trailer jack-knifed on the turnpike, stopping traffic. the red cross opened three shelters and put up 216 people overnight. local residents also joined in. one family even delivered food to a group of teenagers on a bus

3 "they've just been almost in tears, just thanking us. it's just been amazing. it's always a good feeling inside when people are happy because of what you did." even though everyone is safe, turnpike officials say they will be conducting an extensive review of how crews handled the situation. 3 3 3 a missing buncombe county teenager has been found. buncombe county deputies say 17-year-old shira miller, of weaverville, was found yesterday safe and in good condition. she was reported missing on saturday. 3 3 3 new this morning... severe turbulence injures seven passengers and forces an american airlines jet to make an emergency landing in canada. ambulances and paramedics were waiting on the tarmac with stretchers when american airlines flight 206 landed. the flight was headed from miami to milan italy. three flight attendants and four passengers were hospitalized. so far, there is no word how severely they were injured. 3 3 a man hunt is underway this morning in california.

broke out of maximum-security jail in santa ana on friday. they managed to cut through steel bars in their cells and sneak through plumbing tunnels to the roof. they reportedly used sheets to repel four stories to the ground. the inmates were facing charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and torture. 3 "we are in a position when we absolutely need the public's help. there are people out there who know who these people are, may have seen them, we are asking for phone calls, whether it's any piece of information you may have. investigators are now relying on information from the public as we are exhausting every lead that we currently have." police are also investigating how the inmates managed to pull off their escape. 3 3 3 key endorsements played out in the presidential race this weekend. with a week to go before the first big contest, the candidates are making thier final push in iowa. reid binion reports. 3 with the iowa caucuses fast approaching......the presidential primary campaign is seeing key endorsements and

(donald trump) i'd love to have him come in cause i love the competition frankly, i mean it would be great if bloomberg came in.clinton, brushing off any notion that she would feel threatened by a bloomberg run.(hillary clinton) "the way i read what he said is, if i didn't get the nomination, he might consider it. well, i'm going to relieve him of that and get the nomination so he doesn't have to."....and bernie sanders, using it to further his populist message(senator bernie sanders) "if donald trump became the republican

annual retreat. no announcement has been made about that event. votes on an override of the president's veto of the obamacare repeal and iran sanctions, will be rescheduled for february. 3 the winter storm that roared-up the eastern seaboard caused the roof of this strip mall in virginia to cave-in. the national weather service puts preliminary snow totals for fredericksburg at 17-inches. that is where this shopping center is located. no one was hurt in the collapse. 3 the storm also burst a bubble for the washington "redskins". the weight of the snow on top of the team's indoor practice facility caused the inflatable roof to come down. it left only part of the team name visible. the bubble-covered space can also be rented-out for special events. the team says once conditions improve, it will be re-inflated. 3 as this major storm hit... one teen decided to get out his phone and record a very cool time-lapse. 15-year-old chase higgins lives in a suburb of washington d-c. he said he put his phone in his living room window at about one o'clock friday afternoon.
