back to normal after the winter storm but snow and ice are still coating those local roads. >> darcel: crews are now focused on clearing secondary roads. and for many, that cannot happen soon enough. >> tammy: ashlea, you're in the royal pines community. >> ashlea: i am in the royal pines community. a lot of residents we spoke to this morning weren't happy out here. now we can pan out, show you where i am. this road was just hit with a plow and some salt maybe 30 minutes, 45 minutes ago. before it was thick slush. am like a slip n' slide if you vehicle. we spoke with one man and said he tried to work today because he couldn't get his car out. right now at any point in time the dot is saying they have

we are running a full list of closings on the bottom of your screen. in the upstate for the most part, the warmer weather has melted snow. but those secondary roads are covered in wintery mix, especially in shaded areas. that's judge school districts there canceled classes today. >> we're going to check again at around 5 o'clock this afternoon. around. our team is about 25 people. they drive secondary roads, major roads, back roads. checking everything just to make sure that any route that a parent or student or a bus might take is clear. >> darcel: tonight on my40 at 6 6:30, find out if school officials plan to cancelling

>> reporter: i just checked with dispatchers and their main roads are passable. take a look at this picture. this is the back road from macon county. you can see the snow and even a little patch of black ice on that road. so if you are driving a secondary road this evening or even tomorrow morning, please use extra caution as you head out the door. we do have closures in haywood county. crusoe road is closed due to snow and ice. try to avoid that spot. there's no word on when it will reopen. if you're heading out towards patton avenue, get ready for some delays. traffic is flowing through new leicester highway and i-40. that's a look at your on time traffic report brought to you by debruhl's used car superstore. back over to you. >> tammy: for some workers, the lost wages are hard to recover from. hourly employees take a big hit

this? i'm going to show you in just a second. more than the blizzard of 1993. right now they're melting snow. 41 degrees atop mount mitchell on the leicester carpet sales news13 sky cam network. since thursday, adding up friday, adding up saturday, adding up sunday, that's 66 inches of snow. no joke. that is legitimate snow total. 31 inches. the most that fell before that time was 50 inches. they already broke that record by a long shot. 45 in asheville. we've melted a lot of snow today. 52 in greer. it was 55 at the top of the hour in clemson. we have clouds on the increase. although we're going to get a few breaks at times. high cloud cover will certainly move in. and put the kabash on some of the cooling.

additional volume that's coming in. >> frank: but the massive amount of waste. >> it is a concern for us. >> frank: also presents a problem for kirby which isn't permitted to store outdoors. >> the cold weather is helping some, because you know the colder it is, the less there's odor, the less there's pest and vermin vermin. >> frank: kirby is now shipping a third of its volume it can't process to other recyclers to help clean it up. >> moving materials to other locations where shipping to some other locations in the state and out of state to help try to catch up. >> frank: and we've learned that they have caught up quite significantly.

>> jason: well no forecast is ever perfect. we got close but man, was this storm a very complicated one that came over the weekend. look at the snowfall totals over the region. this is i-40. this is i-26. right here is mount mitchell. 57 inches. again, that's just three days total. add about 4 and a half inches, they had 66 inches total when it comes to the storm event. then you go south of there, only 4.8 inches. actually that's a 15 inch storm total just north and east of asheville. balsams. boy, there was a foot plus in many cases there. you get down here, southern jackson county, 14. around cashiers. there. only 1.3 inches east of franklin. a half an inch north of franklin and macon county.

all over the place? there you go. that's how hard it was to forecast this. 12 inches over the nantahala mountains right over the western part of macon county. you go east and it was a foot flush in mcdowell county. a good foot plus also in the yancey and mitchell county, madison county. everything ranges from about as low as six inches in the central part of the french broad river valley. it was everywhere, folks. very difficult. heaviest snow events, this doesn't even rank in the top sixth. it's eighth all time. the blizzard still stands at 18.2 inches, number one. now we turn our attention to the melt. leicester carpet sales news13 sky cam network 46 degrees in black mountain. but watch all this. this is all going to be freeze up later on tonight. shadows already happening now. the sun is setting from 45 degrees in asheville.

degrees with a south-southwest wind at 10. mild weather again early tomorrow and then watch this front come through. here's the dividing line to produce know. warm enough wind to produce rain. a little bit of a wintery mix. by far this is not a major event. but there could be some light icing. light snowfall. and then we'll watch the system go off the coast and bring more rain than anything else. here it is. tonight, clouding up. tomorrow morning, showers well west of us. in the afternoon, a rain comes through. this is morning. on wednesday, look at the snows. on the back edge of that as it comes through the mountains. temperatures in the 20s and 30s tonight. again, below freezing in most mountain valleys especially asheville and northeast. we've got temperatures in the 40s tomorrow. 50s will be found again farther east and south.
