>> a suspect attacks a person >> welcome back. things outside, at least they are a little bit warmer. >> yes, they are. we are above freezing. we are in the 40's right now. this is our news 13 skycam network. cold springs ranch, there is still a good amount of snow that high up. the temperatures will help melt it. seeing a few areas of light rain in our northern mountains, western mountains as well. other than that clouds outside. 40's and a couple of 30's outside. soon enough we'll warm to the 50's by late afternoon. 6:00 p.m., just under that green mark, clouds and a greater chance for rain. coming up, i'll talk about how much rain will fall and if we could see rain-snow mixing, happening as soon as tonight. >> we want to update you on breaking news we have been following this afternoon. there has been a shooting at a naval base. we have a live picture in san diego. a spokesman from the center says there were shots fired in the

around 8:00 this morning. that's 11:00 our time. he says it is being treated as an active shooter situation. this is wha we are seeing on social media about the incident. a post on the medical center page advises all occupants of the center to run, hide or fight. we have no details about any suspects or injuries. we'll update you on the newscast, we are streaming this picture live at wlos.com. >> now to this afternoon's top story, a mass i manhunt under way after a daring jailbreak in california. officials say the fugitives are deadly and the escape was sophisticated. >> we are in a position where we absolutely need the public's help. >> orange county sheriff laying out the urgency of manhunt in california after three inmates broke out of the orange county centralman's jail friday. >> these three are extremely dangerous felons and need to be apprehended and brought back into custody immediately.

murder and attempted murder and are thought to have ties to vietnamese gangs. a third is charged with kidnapping and torture. officials say the inmates first cut through a quarter inch metal plate, using bed sheets and towels to rapel 50 feet to the ground. >> they are in a pod in an orange county jail. there is constantly laundry call where people are turning in their old laundry. it is easy to accumulate bed sheets and pillowcases and such. >> several security breaches occurred. we are talking about breaching in some places steel rebar and metal. >> officials say it is not clear if if they had help but a fight friday night may have been staged to help in their escape.

emerging from texas after a road rage sparked a confrontation in austin. prior to the fight men made obscene yes, sir churs. when the light turned red, they got out of their cars. the two drivers are already gone before police arrived at the scene. scene. >> take a look at this, a suspect attacks a prosecutor in the courtroom after being found guilty. the attack set off a panic with people jumping out of their seats including the judge. the prosecutor tried to jump in for pay back. michael cox had been found guilty of criminal sexual contact for fondling a girl. >> i was able to get ahold of the defendant to get him under control. >> fox could be in even more trouble. they say the quick thinking of the deputy diffused what could have been a much worse situation. >> major developments this noon out of flint michigan, the attorney general is launching a criminal investigation into the

this comes after new images were released that showed long lines of small children been tested for lead poisoning. >>awyers representing flint in a lawsuit over the toxic water have subpoenaed governor rick schneider. 42 deaths being blamed on the blizzard that has shut down the federal government in washington for a second day. schools in d.c., baltimore and philadelphia are closed again and hundreds of flights remain grounded. >> in baltimore overnight, unplowed streets made it impossible for fire trucks, forcing cre to drag equipment down the street. >> in new york, this plowed truck was no match for the near

>> there was a five minute delay but that's it. >> while the dig out continues, residents urged to use caution because of the death at least a dozen people died from shoveling. >> ingrid, folks here working to recover from our snow. we are making good progress with the help of these temperatures. >> yeah, helping to melt the snow, of course, not seeing the issues like they are seeing up north because we are starting to see thihi snow melt, although it is coating a lot of these secondary roads. of course, the refreeze we had this morning, we'll have it again tonight. notice here in the distance, we have seen some blue sky and these clouds fill back in. 43 degrees and you can see that the green is no longer green. it is white right now. black mountain now, this is looking better. we see improvement on the sidewalks.

of what western north carolina is still dealing with after almost a foot of snow across much of the region. some locations even more han that. wcu campus looks like it is getting back to normal as well. got some snow still on the grass but not too bad. let's turn our attention to current conditions in our northern mountains here to northern haywood, swain and graham county. seeing some light showers. really the heaviest rain is staying well to our north, above 75 there. down into asheville and greenville, seeing the clouds this afternoon. no precip in our rain gauge. we'll have the chance tonight and again tomorrow. temperatures have been pretty normal for this time of year. look at this, this is where we have been today, 46 for a high, 27 for a low. this is what we should be. pretty normal there. this morning, we were cool and then warmed up to the 40's. now 46 degrees in asheville. 49 in morganton.

columbia, feels very nice, 64 degrees, enjoy that. winds picked up in asheville out of the south at 13 miles an hour. 5 in hendersonville. big picturepicture, moving through the region that will increase our chances for showers. a closer look at the timeline. we have a chance for a wintry mix in a couple of zones. 4:00 p.m., still staying mostly dry but clouds. more widespread showers after dinner time. eventually into the overnight hours, the possibility of a few light snow showers maybe in the way of freezing rain too in the northern mountains. but they have really pulled back on these models with a chance for that wintry precip in the highest elevations. we keep that threat out there. 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, mostly dry. actually some clearer skies expected for the second half of the day.

can sound like a dirty word. >> be careful because scammers not only steal your information but they may turn you into a crook. mary explains in today's consumer news. >> reporter: when trying to make a decision for the future, it is often decisions from the past that can trip you up, from buying a car to buying a home, lenders can see your decisions in a credit report and some scammers see an opportunity. according to trade commission there are a few easy ways to spot a credit repair scam. if the company asks for payment before they render any services. if they ask you do not contact the reporting agencies directly. if they suggest giving false information when applying for a mortgage or a loan. another troubling trend among credit repair scammers, the promise of a new credit identity which can unwittingly land a consumer in trouble with the law. you can spot these scams when a service suggests abandoning a
