drop below freezing overnight. >> you will stand a chance of running in to some icy spots where the w wer is running across the road. >> karen: five dot trucks had mechanic problems causing delays in clearing roads in henderson county. but he says the department is doingg all it can to make the roads as safe as possible. >> we're working around the clock to get these worked on and to try to get them cleared for people. it has been difficult due to the amount of snow that we've had. >> karen: without the roads being completely clear, henderson and transylvania counties were out for a day today. most other districts went ba k to school. >> that's sometimes the toughest thing to do on slick roads. that's why we want to make sure that the roads are good before we start running those busses. >> karen: and he says most of those unpaved secondary roads

like it. stick around for that. >> larry: someone fired shots outside a buncombe county development. they pierced a metal sign and then the bullets went through walls of two occupied homes. a total of five bullets were fired in to the sign. two of those bullets made their way in to the walls of two separate homes. no one was hurt. people who live in the area are concerned. >> i hope they find out who did it. which, i don't know if they really can. if it was just a drive-by random shooting, i don't know. that's very frightening. >> larry: call crime stoppers if you know anything about this case. coming up at 6 o'clock, we're going to show you the damage in side one of those homes and the evidence that it was a very close call. >> tammy: anyone in mcdowell county who wants to help detectives fight crime can now text anonymously. a detective there spearheaded the program. he showed us how

>> once that tip comes to us, we can actually have a conversation with that tipster. again, we don't know who we're talking to. but it opens a line of communication between the two of us. >> tammy: investigators have already arrested a suspected car thief thanks to a tip that was anonymously texted. call the sheriff's office for more information on how to sign up up. >> larry: troopers say that 50-year-old johnny davis of wayneville died in the crash. it happened last night near the clyde exit. davis hit an embankment and was thrown from his truck. he later died at the hospital. they suspect alcohol was a factor in this accident. >> tammy: if you are heading out towards smoky park highway, give time. >> jaclyn: this wreck is stop and go traffic between here and sand hill road.

investigators say finnican's family say he was killed. >> they just unload on him and shot him a whole bunch of times. and they killed him. >> reporter: eight protestors are now in fbi custody. not all of them were involved in the traffic stop. jason was one of the occupiers. >> they told us we could safely leave. well the group who was leaving has a dead man in it. there's another than in arizona, and he's in custody. >> reporter: law enforcement officials say they will continue to empty the refuge of those who illegal occupy it. the goal is to remove them in the safest way possible so that way the community can heal. >> tammy: documents in the case of boston marathon bomber, dzhokhar tsarnaev were unsealed today.

and sentenced to death for his role in that attack. a federal judge ordered a release of the documents. the body of a whale was found on the shore of aa north carolina beach. it was discovered this morning south of a fishing pier. the whale was a one or two-year-old hump back. experts say it was thin and appeared to be ill for a long time. >> tammy: officials confirm that a tornado touched down this morning in an area of south florida. strong winds were felt in co coconut creek. there are no reports of any injuries. >> larry: jason, tammy and i were talking a little bit, the roads are clear but our yards. >> jason: if you have something piled up on the north side of

to now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> jason: let's start you out with a look at the jet stream configuration. this is the storm track we often hone in on. we look for the northerly branch, the one in blue here. you see this dip. it's impressive but not enough energy to produce this much. all that cold air was late to the party. and we just didn't get the moisture to fall as any frozen precip. watch up here in the northwest. we do have a system. it will eventually get colder and gustier in terms of winds on friday. notice this moisture down here. it's kind of creeping down to the north. an active sub-tropical jet stream.

it's really going to be clouds. really the chances of rain are so minimal. nothing expected saturday and sunday. outside right now we do have the clouds overhead. the wind out in the north at 6. that puts the wind chill down to 39. and you're sitting under cloudy skies. you're in that east-northeasterly wind for at least 24 hours over the upstate. here's why. area of low pressure working up the coast bringing a little bit have moisture here to the upstate. we've kind of pushed that off to the east. what is this dashed yellow line? the central of low pressure way up in canada. the line stretched out is the pressure that will swing through friday. stronger northwesterly winds is going to mean snow showers.

friday into early afternoon. let's see it in the future cast. clouds coming back in the afternoon totorrow. i don't think it's going to be cloudy all day. we'll have our waves of clouds mixed with sunshine. i still think this is over done. some of the rain down there. but if you're south of 85, greenwood, abbeville, union, you ve better shot of getting rain showers. then we clear out before we cloud back up. here's friday early in the day. some wind and snow showers up against the high elevations there in the tennessee border. we'll watch it. it's going to get colder. that's definite for friday. there are the rain amounts. mostly south of i-85 could pick up a quarter inch. 20s for lows tonight. 40s for the upstate. 30s and 40s mixed. look at highs tomorrow. going warmer overall.
