while apd dropped the college requirement, it still is necessary to climb the ranks. >> we want to see you advance and to advance, you have to have college. >> kim: the career choice no doubt is a dangerous profession. but the recruits know what they signed up for that officers can lose their lives. >> it's just natural instinct to be afraid. every day i put that uniform on, i embrace that i'm able to help somebody. >> kim: at trainees earn about $34,000 to start. once they graduate, that bumps up to around $36,000. frank. >> frank: the north carolina highway patrol is looking to fill more than 160 positions statewide. one of two recruitment events is from 6 until 8 this evening at the reynolds fire department in

justin, that meeting kicks off at about half an hour. >> justin: that's right. the site that is in question is just beyond that line. before it closed in 2006, it stored construction waste, nylon fabric and other waste. enka partners of asheville, llc, wants to convert that land in to a park. the company is looking in to an agreement with the state to redevelop property. the state will listen to comments and already submitted thoughts. >> use those to make our final decision as to whether to proceed with this project. >> justin: the proposed agreement would require enka partners to carry out specific state action. again, you can voice your opinion at tonight's meeting starting at 6:00 at ab tech.

from hendersonville. notice this band of cloud cover starting to work from the south. we start to cloud things up, especially for the mountains. 42, now 43 in hendersonville. most of us in the low 40s. you're still holding in the 50s, though, in the upstate. pretty nice. you've been lucky. north wind at 20 in asheville. most of us dealing with the wind now. first places to see it really slacken will be the mountain valleys. wind chills will be in the low to mid teens -- or 20s, i should say. 30s from 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock. temperatures in the upstate will be milder. 40s from 7 to 11 o'clock. yeah, it will be chilly but nothing like the mountains. we'll talk more about bigger changes, which will come as we get in to next weekend. there's snow in the forecast. stick around for all the details

the form of light snow this evening and in to the early night in the mountains. yancey, mitchell, avery county, northern portions of mcdowell. wind advisories until 10 o'clock in the morning. we already had our wind gusts up to 30 today in asheville. it's still gusty. 41 degrees outside. clear skies for now. those clouds will be on the increase. from here on out, it is going to feel much colder. 7 o'clock this evening, wind chills. watch them continue to drop off down to 20 for a feels like temp for midnight in asheville. 20 in waynesville. low 20s in sylva. there's day break tomorrow. just before it, in fact. crawling out of bed for most of us teens for wind chills to greet us.
