compensation. 3 3 3 new this morning... a man from polk county is behind bars after a lengthy drug investigation. 21-year-old braelyn metcalf faces several charges including possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver marijuana and felony possession of cocaine. deputies say they found marijuana and cocaine at his home in mill spring after executing a search warrant there. 3 3 3 an update this morning on a story we've been following for you since wednesday. jackson county authorities are now investigating the shooting death of a man as a homicide. timothy norris's body was found by his wife wednesday. as of this morning, no arrests have been made. 3 3 there is new information this morning...in the investigation into the death of a 17-month- old boy in haywood county. 9-1-1 calls made the day kyler presnell died indicate he was blue and not breathing. first responders were not able to revive him. initial autopsy findings state kyler died from blunt force trauma to the head.

and no charges have been filed. 3 3 3 new this morning ... extreme sports pioneer dave mirra was found dead yesterday of a suspected suicide. he was 41-years old. mirra rose to fame in the 1990s as the world's top athlete in b-m-x. greenville, north carolina police say mirra's body was found in a truck, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. he's survived by his wife and two children. 3 3 thieves broke into a home in buncombe county while the family was away with their hospitalized child. tommy mcabee says he and his family had just arrived home from charlotte... when they discovered the break-in. his son had just undergone a medical procedure. the thieves stole everything... including guitars and guns. ((stop)) 3 "it's just really sick you know. i just feel like it makes the situation way worse. " " the thieves also made themselves at home... taking a beer from the refrigerator. if you have any information, contact the buncombe county sheriff's department. 3

searching for the man who robbed a bank in marshall. he hit the first citizens bank on highway 25/70... just before 11 thursday morning. surveillance video shows him wearing black rimmed glasses, a grey hoodie and a camouflage hat. if you recognize him... aall the madison county sheriff's office. 3 3 detectives in mcdowell county arrest a fourth suspect in a counterfeiting case. we reported earlier this week that they were looking for 35-year-old april evans. she was arrested in black mountain wednesday night. three other suspects were already in custody. the investigation stretches back to last summer when deputies received several reports of fake money being passed at local businesses. 3 3 a mcdowell high student is accused of having a gun on school grounds. 17-year-old justin brooks is charged with felony possession of a weapon on educational property and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon. deputies say an officer doing a security check in the school parking lot saw ammunition in brooks' vehicle. they searched the car and found a handgun inside. 3 3

assistant principal at north buncombe high school. he is back on the job, following a five-day suspension. school officials placed barry owens on administrative leave after an incident with crowd control at a basketball game on january 15th. the school system says the investigation is over, and they have reinstated owens to his position. 3 3 the number of college students who want to be teachers has plummeted 30- percent statewide in the last five years. that's according to enrollment numbers released by teacher training programs in the u-n-c system. some blame poor pay and long hours. in recent years, state lawmakers have also raised standards and scrapped a scholarship program for students going into education. some say the drop in enrollment may be a good thing. 3 i really think that the dip is a positive sign of the kind of - i don't want to say exclusive - but the kind of environment that you want in a highly professional field the buncombe county school district says it has received

lately. they say if this pattern continues, it could mean fewer quality teachers in classrooms, and larger class sizes. 3 3 3 happening tomorrow... job hunters will have another chance to learn how to become a north carolina state trooper. a recruitment session was held last night. another will be tomorrow morning at 10 at the reynolds fire department. the highway patrol is looking to fill 162 positions statewide. eight of those are here in the mountains. one trooper says it is much more than a job. ((stop)) 3 trooper jason metcalf, highway patrol: "the pay is decent, but as far as what you can get out of the job itself, it goes a lot further than money. i mean you're actually helping your community and saving lives and it's something that you can feel good at night about when you lay down." 3 to be a trooper... there are some requirements, including being 21 to 39 years old... and having a high school diploma or g-e-d. 3 3 16 recruits are about to start a new chapter in their

virus to preparing for a hurricane...officials are expanding florida's public health emergency declaration to a fifth county......as reports of infection continue to grow..(gov. rick scott (r) florida) "yesterday we had nine cases. today, florida has 12 zika cases."the primary carrier of zika - the aedes egyptiae mosquito - known as an aggressive biter... (nicholas jackson, global head of research, sanofi pasteur) "it's very adapted to the urban environment, it lives extremely well in your home." and florida isn't the only u.s. state facing the threat. more than a dozen now have confirmed cases of zika.... including warm-weather states where mosquitos thrive, like... ...california......florida... ...and hawaii......where the first u-s case of a newborn suffering brain damage linked to zika was reported this week. it comes as world health officials express s concern that the global expansion of zika may continue(nicholas jackson, global head of research, sanofi pasteur) "i think it's quite prudent to predict that zika will continue to spread around the world, 30 countries today, and that number could increase significantly."i'm reid binion, reporting. 3 3 3 two n-y-p-d officers are hospitalized after a shooting incident in the bronx.

officers were on a routine patrol inside a public housing complex when shots were fired. one officer was struck in the head. neither officer is facing life-threatening injuries. one suspect died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. a second is in custody. 3 the man who lead the occupation of a national wildlife rerege in oregon last month, is speaking out from jail. ammon bundy released a recorded statement after being indicted by a federal grand jury for taking over the federal land. in all, 16 occupiers are now facing charges. bundy's attorney released the statement to reporters during a press conference in eugene. 3 (ammon bundy, protest leader) "the results of government officials ignoring the people, are acts like the takeover of the malheur refuge. taking over the refuge was not only right, it was the duty of the people to do."3 most of the occupiers are still in jail. two have been released. spokesman lavoy fin-icum was killed last week in the confrontation with law enforcement officials that led to the arrests. 3 high waters leave a homeless

man became stranded near a creek in east ridge, tennessee. the man's wife told reporters they are homeless and were camping in the area. she left to get coffee and returned to find her husband trapped in the high waters, yelling for help. it's not clear how he got trapped. crews came out and put a rescue boat in the water... quickly bringing the man back to shore. 3 3 3 3 he wasashe voice of many beloved cartoon characters. coming up... the death of joe alaskey, and the famous names he gave a voice to.

3 in this morning's the buzz, rock and roll music has lost another legend. maurice white, the leader of the band "earth wind and fire" died in his sleep. white's brother and the group's bassist made the announcement on his facebook page. among the group's more famous tracks, "september", "shining star" and "sing a song." white was 74-years-old. 3 in the cartoon world, the in the cartoon world, the voice actor behind bugs bunny and daffy duck has died. the family of joe alaskey confirmed his death. he had been battling cancer. alaskey voiced several looney tunes characters after the death of mel blanc in 19-89, including tweety bird, sylvester the cat and even won an emmy for his

3 it's 4:xx it's t-m-z time. jay, johnny manziel is in the spotlight again, and not for his moves on the football field. yeah, more like his personal life. the cleveland brown's quarterback is defending allegations his ex-girlfriend made. she says he hit her during a dispute last month. but manziel says it did not happen. when t-m-z asked about a police report accusing him of threatening to kill himself, he denied that too. johnny added he has great things coming but did not specify what those things were.
