"asheville humane" says the "puppy bowl" helps bring awareness about adoptions in the area. 3 3 a hendersonville church used a football theme in its efforts to feed the hungry. the youth group at "grace lutheran church" collected canned goods and cash as part of the annual "souper bowl of caring." the event is part of a national campaign to fight hunger. last year more than

hundred dollars were collected. 3 3 3 also happening today... the haywood county school board is set to vote whether to close central elementary school. as we have reported, the school has seen falling enrollment and a budget shortfall. but, many parents have argued that the school is worth saving. if central closes, most kids would go to hazelwood elementary or junaluska elementary. the board meeting begins at 7 tonight. 3 3 a young father was killed over the weekend while working on his vehicle in mills river. deputies say 28-year-old "andy" arrowood was working on his jeep friday when the jack gave way... and the truck landed on top of him. it happened outside his home on warlick road in mills river. arrowood is survived by his wife and two young sons. 3 3 a hiker is recovering this morning following a five-hour rescue out of linville gorge. the man broke a leg on shortoff mountain saturday morning. crews used a blackhawk helicopter to get him out. he was then flown to mission hospital in asheville. 3 3 3 a south carolina utility company says duke energy's planned upgrade at lake julian

energy" says its facility in lexington county can generate more than 500-megawatts of power for the asheville-area. the "state utilities commission" agreed to let "columbia" intervene in consideration of duke's proposed natural gas conversion here. the commission is expected to rule by march first, whether to allow construction of the new lake julian plant. 3 3 north carolina does not need new regulations for zip lining. that is the word from the state labor department. officials were researching possible changes... after a 12-year-old camper died in a zip-line accident last summer near boone. the department found that most deaths are caused by human error... and that no amount of regulation can get rid of all of the risk during a zip-line ride. 3 3 3 today, "chipotle" will close all of its restaurants across the nation, in the wake of recent outbreaks of e-coli and norovirus. they will close for a company-wide food safety meeting for all employees. it's expected to last four hours. "chipotle" has already made changes that include paid leave, to make sure workers stay home when they are sick.

how it prepares food. 3 3 3 new this morning ... police are investigating a fatal shooting at a mardi gras parade in mississippi. someone opened fired at the mardi gras parade in pass christian last night. both victims died at the scene. four others were also hurt, but their conditions are not known. the injured were taken to the hospital. no arrests have been made at this time. 3 3 3 yesterday, crews removed pieces of the crane that collapsed friday in new york, killing one person. the 565-foot boom came crashing down on north street in tribeca. it was cut intnt35 pieces and hauled away on a flat-bed truck. the last piece was moved yesterday morning. crews are still on the scene working to repair a water main break and a gas line. they hope to reopen the street for this morning's commute. 3 police in texas release new details about a triple murder- suicide. they say 19-year-old dylan westerburg shot and killed his mother... then went next door to kill two brothers. the shootings happened friday afternoon. authorities surrounded the area

3 lamar odom is marking a milestone in his recovery efforts. what he was seen doing with his former flame khloe kardashian. when a counselor asked how much my husband drinks, i said, "not that much." i don't know why i said that. he always drank too much, but i guess i'm so used to keeping it a secret that i didn't tell the truth- to myself or anyone else. my husband has drinks with friends after work. he has a couple of drinks at home with dinner and a few more while we watch tv. pretty soon he's shouting at me and blaming me for all of his problems. i just can't take it anymore. a counselor recommended al-anon family groups.
