siltzer good morning. here is a look at current conditions across the region. your day planner shows temperatures warming by noon. coming up, i'll show you our 7-day forecast for both the mountains and upstate. 3 3 3 3 3 3 new this morning... a man from western north carolina is now charged in connection with the armed occupation of the oregon wildlife refuge. the u-s attorney's office in oregon says jason blomgren, from murphy, is charged with felony conspiracy to interfere

media reports that blomgren was on the wildlife refuge from january 10th through january 26th. he was taken into custody wednesday in nevada near the bundy ranch. blomgren was arrested after officials say he tried to buy an a-r 15 rifle. 3 3 this morning, volunteers will meet in canton, and then head back to the upstate to search for a missing man from haywood county. scott turner was last seen on monday morning, then his truck was found tuesday in the sumter national forest. today, more than half a dozen specially-trained canine teams will join the search crews. one of turner's friends says his disappearance is out of character for him. 3 1048 something has changed. it's not like him. he would never do this to his wife or his children. he's a great person. anybody you talk to all got good things to say about him multiple agencies from several states are involved in the search, along with turner's family and friends. 3 3 we have an uuate on a deadly car crash in asheville. authorities have now identified the victim.. 72-year-old barbara barkley

hit a tree on sweeten creek road. she died at the scene. the 89-year-old driver of the car and another passenger had injuries that were not life- threatening. police have not said what caused the crash. 3 3 a mcdowell county man accepts a plea deal in a rape case we have been following. eugene carson pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree rape. he was facing two charges of statutory rape. a judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison. carson is one of four suspects charged in the rape of a 15-year-old last year. 3 3 a graham county man is sentenced to six years in prison on child porn charges. mark tygart, of robbinsville, was arrested in 2014 after an undercover officer found him posting links to child porn in an online chat room. tygart's home was searched and investigators found hundreds pornography. 3 3 a man from arden is convicted on a federal firearms violation. court documents say a deputy found three guns in kenneth sherlin's vehicle during a traffic stop in 2014. according to statements made

prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior convictions. sherlin was sentenced to six years in prison. 3 3 3 new information this morning on what police are calling a brutal scene at an ohio restaurant. a man with a machete attacked four people inside, sending them all to the hospital. one of those victims -- who was in critical condition last night -- is now stable. police shot and killed the attacker. this morning, we are awaiting his identity. rob wells has more on what police believe was a random attack. 3 ((machete attacker killed by cpdnortheast columbus))(sot tc: 19:20:46)"he came through the front door and it started systematically hitting people with a machete." karen bass was having dinner inside the nazareth mediterranean cuisine restaurant when it started. of driving services like uber x and lyft. the drivers honked their horns and blocked traffic around city hall demanding to talk to the mayor. a representative for the mayor met with the drivers and allowed them to express their concerns. uber released a statement saying philadelphia has shown tremendous demand for more affordable options like uber. 3 a 14-year-old girl is sentenced to 35 years in prison for killing her mother in pennsylvania. authorities say the girl and her 21-year-old boyfriend conspired to kill the girl's 54-year-old mother. the mother is said to have disapproved of her daughter's relationship with the older man. the boyfriend is accused of attacking the mother in her car and stabbing her to death. 3 when nebraska voters head to the polls in november, they may decide if casinos can move into the state. three pro- gambling petitions are making their way through the state. the group spearheading the push for casinos is called "keep the money in nebraska." they say creating those casinos will help bring more tax revenue to the state. supporters have until july to

casinos on the ballot in november. 3 while many u-s cities are facing harsh winter weather - santa maria, california is definitely not one of them. the forecast for thursday was close to 80-degrees and sunny, but parents and kids at one college didn't want to miss out on all the fun that comes with winter - so they decided to make their own snow at the hancock college children's center. organizers at the college say it was an opportunity to teach children who have never seen snow before all about it. 3 3 3 changes could be coming to a pilot program for school uniforms at a buncombe county school. right now, students at koontz intermediate must wear khaki or navy bottoms and a collared, lands end polo shirt with the school logo on the chest. the school principal is considering making that logo optional and allowing parents to buy from other vendors. she says, so far, the impact on student performance is positive. 3 "it's made life simpler. girls attendance is up, because i

understand the stress young girls have in trying to be fashionable." board says she will first meet with parents, then present her recommendatio ns to the superintendent, before any changes are made. proposed changes must then be approved by the school board. 3 3 a restaurant chain suddenly closes in rutherford county. "ryans" in forest city was open for nearly 20 years. last thursday, employees were told to clock out and leave. then equipment was hauled out of the building. one employee claims ryan's owes him five weeks of pay. 3 as an employer you expect us to give two weeks notice. you couldn't give us a day notice? ryan's coropoate has released a statement saying it shut down 74 under-performing restaurants last week. the company is looking into daniel's claim that he has not been paid. 3 3 an off-duty deputy is being called a hero after he helped save a driver involved in a
