temperatures right now are well above freezing in the middle to upper 40's in asheville right now. 50 in franklin. low 50's from gaffeny to greer. clemson, upper 50's. down to columbia very comfortable as well. you can see the roadd here, drying out, thanks to the sunshine. 41 on the skycam network. 2:00 p.m. back in the french broad river valley, we'll be in the upper 40's but then continuing to cool actually throughout the afternoon. back down to the upper 30's in many locations by dinner time. that's when another chance for wintry weather begins. we'll talk about the timeline of this. how much snow will fall and exactly where and what can asheville expect. i'll tell you that in my full forecast coming up. >> let's go to laura brigman along ray hill road.

trouble spots this afternoon. >> the sun is out. temperatures are warming above freezing as ingrid mentioned. that is helping things. the shaded areas like this one right here. they are not seeing that there are still icy patches. as you can see, evidence of the ice has weighed down trees along these roads, forcing them just to break. butler bridge road is is where icy conditions remain with evidence of an accident last night and another crash in the same spot this morning. we know one person was taken to the hospital as a result. dispatchers with the henderson county afters tell me they have received 160 calls related to wrecks in the county since 8:00 yesterday morning. a combination of highway patrol or local police have responded to those crashes and even more are occurring this morning. conditions have made it difficult for even the officials

>> we are short handed everywhere in the state. we just try to get to everywhere as fast as we can. >> ice on interstate 26 early related in multiple accidents. troopers say the were eight wrecks on i-26 in henderson county alone between midnight and 8:00 this morning. dot officials say the interstate had been treated overnight, they continue to treat these widespread icy spots and towing companies have also been very busy this morning, working to clear those accident scenes as we speak. as of right now, there are about 1500 people, a little bit more than that here in henderson county that are still without power. we have been focusing on that all morning as well as power companies are working to turn the lights back on for a lot of people, especially here in henderson county.

affecting us here. a dangerous mix of snow, ice and heavy rain is making for dangerous driving conditions up and down the east coast. megan hughes has more on the wild weather in some of the hardest hit states. >> clean up the area here so no one slips and falls. >> slippery sidewalks made for wobbly walking. on the roads, the koeth left drivers struggling to get traction. derek was driving down valley forge when he went off the road, just missing this tree. >> i'm trying to not to hit the guy in front of me. it turned into a skid and went off the road. >> in north carolina there were more than 1500 accidents in 24 hours. the winter storm is also creating trouble at airports. red dominated the board at charlotte international, close to 1600 flights were cancelled

>> i'm done. i'm done. >> i'm ready for summer. >> the snow, ice and rain are marching north up the east coast. 17 states seeing winter weather alerts with a big warm up in many places by later tonight. >> the wild weather stretching into the south with reports of several tornado touchdowns. in mississippi this house destroyed. this high school campus damageddamaged. i seen it coming at me. it was scary. >> today's severe weather came after a weekend that shattered cold records in new york and boston. today temperatures in some places are expected to rise into the 50's.50's. a water main break shut down a portion of mcdowell near mission hospital. the hospital was without water for about 15 minutes.

businesses along mcdowell to ashland are still without power -- or without water. the city of asheville said one southbound lane and one northbound lane of mcdowell between the intersection of choptau is open. the exact cause is unknown but the change in temperatures could have played a role. >> gun advocates are calling out businesses with gun free zones. some bars have banned guns after north carolina changed its firearms law. people with conceal carry permits can take their gun in a place that serves alcohol unless it is posted. gun advocates say not allowing guns is a risky business. >> when someone comes in with ill intentions, they don't know who and who does not have a weapon that will stop them. >> tonight at 11:00, the

we are seeing a good amount of sunshine. around burnsville, still seeing the clouds. we'll see our chances for rain increase too. four-tenths of an inch early this morning, just the next couple of hours past midnight. temperatures this morning did stay above freezing. this is the area where the low temperature goes for today. this is the warmest we have gotten. not too bad outside. 46 degrees so far in asheville. 50 degrees in forest city. 40's in morganton. holding onto 40's into northern zones. bryson, 46 degrees. low 50's in greenville. clemson 56. middle 50's all the way down to greenwood. the wind is not terrible. it should pick up ahead of our system at 7 miles an hour in asheville. 10 in franklin and 5 down into greenville. precip.

we have a chance for that to spr the region as early as this afternoon. winter weather advisory will go out at 4:00 until 6:00 a.m. wednesday tomorrow. tennessee border counties, including northern jackson county as well. let's look at the timeline, nothing yet. our western counties seeing this precip first. this is 4:00 p.m. temperatures likely staying above freezing but they'll continue to drop off alert this evening. that's when we see this mix. once again in the highest elevations likely near the tennessee line. the chance also for a mix further south down into the asheville area. 4:30 tomorrow morning, continuing to see the snow fall across the region and into 7:00 a.m. this is our snowfall potential map, one to three inches in blue. a dusting to half an inch in white. there is a chance for some here

northern side of the county and of course near tennessee line. also some rainfall expected. it is not going to be all know when it falls further south especially, maybe even as much as three tons of an inch of rain further south. clouds developing today, late day, evening rain. the wind will pick up, 48 degrees. tonight, 32 with a chance of a rain-snow mix. what about in greenville, middle 50's with sunshine and mild conditions and winds staying pretty steady at 5 to 8. tonight, back down to 36. look at the seven-day forecast, we are talking 50's thursday friday and 60's into the weekend. we'll enjoy that, won't we? >> one country will soon be
