>> darcel: the property owner is a public official. tonight he's talking to news 13 about what happened the night one of his tenants was arrested. something we all have to be paying some attention to and be serious minded about it. >> larry: one of them was also a victim. how they could stop them before they could steal anything. if they could get her healthy enough. >> darcel: also tonight, an effort is underway to save a dog's life that just had her puppies. now from western north carolina's news leader, this is news 13 at 11:00. >> larry: new information tonight on a meth bust in black mountain. the property where it happened is owned by the mayor. >> darcel: the sheriff's office arrested 35-year-old michael carraway and samantha gungawear. the mayor of black mountain says he's one of the callers.

the arrest on his property, aaron? >> aaron: larry, the mayor says he's glad. years ago he says he voted to support the buncombe county task force, which made the arrest. >> they knew something was wrong. >> aaron: black mountain mayor michael soebel says something was up. >> you just don't have cars coming in all the time and people staying for two minutes. >> reporter: he says cars would come in and out all hours of the day. >> i pretty much guess what they're there for because they come and go, come and go. >> aaron: he called to complain to his landlord. >> that trailer park is ours and some other apartments. that's how i put food on the table. >> aaron: the mayor owns the property. he says he's doing his job screening tenants. >> they don't know what they're talking about. again, if i buy a park and the

mission hospital. but it teams here caught it before it cost any problems. when did the attack there happen, justin? >> justin: folks at mission tell us this was at the end of last year. but again, because they have a number of safeguards against the attacks, no information was compromised. they continue to work to make sure that hospital information stays safe. a california hospital paid nearly $17,000 to hackers to regain control of the hospital system's computers. reminding i.t. teams of mountain hospitals the importance of a good cyber system. >> we have to prepare for the worst case scenario. constantly monitoring for any kind of unusual activity that might be noticeable through our

looking at our backup and restore capabilities to ensure those capabilities are healthy. >> justin: it just so happened that the week we came to visit was also the week the chief information security officer for unc healthcare was in the office looking at security. >> she and i have done a good job looking at some things to make sure we're in good shape there. >> security is important to us in a variety of ways. one, we want to protect our patient's information. but we also want to make sure they feel safe in all that they do. >> justin: his teams are constantly monitoring and checking for anything out of the ordinary. he says one computer recently received the same type of virus the california hospital received. >> this particular attack that we experienced back in the later part of 2015 was very limited in its scope.

the defense will begin their case. richard o'shields is charged in the murder of toby mathis. a revenge killing after the death of o'shields' son. mathis was convicted of in involuntary manslaughter. >> larry: a michigan contractor stopped work on a big road construction project in jackson county. deveer construction is the same company that stopped work on the i-26 bridge over pond road. they've also halted work on a connector road in jackson county. as well as some projects in the eastern part of the state. the dot says deveer's bonding company will take over the projects. >> the bonding company will step up and complete the project for the agreed upon contract price. >> larry: the dot says it holds contractors to specific schedules.

you're watching news 13 with darcel grimes, larry blunt, chief meteorologist jason boyer, and sports with stan pamfillis. this is news 13 at 11:00. >> larry: developing tonight, the first case of zika virus in north carolina has been confirmed. it's an adult who recently traveled to a zika affected country. the person's name and where they live in north carolina is not being made known. state health officials say there's little to fear from the zika virus at least now. >> i don't think we need to be worried about what's going on here in north carolina at all. i think the concern is what's happening in south and central america and the caribbean. we're certainly concerned for those people and we also want to

north carolina travel there, that they protect themselves against mosquito bites. >> larry: a reminder, pregnant women should consider not traveling to any country where that virus is common. they can transmit the virus to that unborn child. >> darcel: tonight, veterinarian veterinarians are trying to save a husky dog. news 13's jerrika insco joins us live. jerrika, how is that momma husky doing? >> jerrika: darcel, she's recovering here after an emergency surgery this afternoon to repair her lung. now this is bad timing for her to be in the hospital because she has five eight-day old puppies to take care of. they're now in foster care with two employees with swannanoa valley animal hospital.

bryson city, also hendersonville, winds out of the south. now some places in our western mountains around franklin and waynesville were a bit smokey wondering what's going on. there's a controlled burn in oconee county, south carolina. some of that smoke moving up from the south. right now in asheville, it is clear and warm at 47 degrees. winds are light and variable at 3 miles per hour. greenville, 51 degrees with a light wind out of the west-southwest. feeling so comfortable for a february night. we do have changes coming our way, though. rain. rain chances are going to be fairly low in asheville tomorrow. 30%. wouldn't hurt to keep the umbrella around. 40% on sunday. and monday up to 60. tuesday, yeah, chances are pretty good it's going to be a wet day. then we take a look at the mountains overall.

higher for the weekend. 40% saturday. 60 on sunday and monday. and way up to 80% on tuesday. we have a front that is making its way towards the mountains. it is going to stall out before it reaches the mountains. so saturday afternoon-evening wrapping up that day with a few light spotty showers in the area. then we have this area of low pressure moving closer. by sunday morning, not much, but then late in the day on sunday, moving in. and then a break in the action before that next area of low pressure brings some heavier rain. we can see by early tomorrow morning, maybe a few, very few showers popping up along the tennessee state line. very widely scattered showers continue as we go through saturday afternoon, even on in to the evening. a break in any activity on sunday morning. but then i i the afternoon, it rolls on through. there will be a couple of hours

keep the umbrella close before we get yet another break. but we do have heavier rain coming your way early in the week monday through wednesday, west of asheville could see two to three inches of rain. rainfall potential. i'll step out of the way so you can take a better look at this map on monday through wednesday. well above freezing. 39 in asheville. 42 in greer. highs tomorrow in the 60s in. in asheville, 61. next seven days, we see plenty of rain in the week ahead. very mild. eventually cooling back down though later in the week. by tuesday and wednesday, highs only in the 40s.
