>> frank: new tonight. a homicide case in the up state. pickens county sheriff deputies are investigating after a woman's body was found at a boat ramp. the victim is a 35-year-old from south carolina. no other information is released at this time. the defense begins presenting its case in the murder trial of transylvania county man. richard o'shields is charged in the shooting death of to ne mathis. mathis was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of joey, o'shields. they say months later richard o'shields killed mathis. police say an uber driver opened fire out on city streets killing half a dozen people. elizabeth hur has the latest on

reporter: tonight, as families of the victims, including a 60-year-old retired teacher seek answers police are finding a silver lining. >> very relieved we have someone in custody. >> shots fired. reporter: overnight a city was gripped with fear after a man opened fire at three different locations across a 13 mile span in michigan. the first, a parking lot where a woman walking to her car was shot several times. the second a few hours later at a car dealership, a father and son killed. the third outside a cracker barrel restaurant, the suspect taking the lives of nine and three others in two vehicles. leaving a 14-year-old girl in critical condition. >> you don't ever expect something like this to happen, anywhere, let alone here in kalamazoo. this is the most awful thing ever. >> the suspect, jason

into custody hours after the final shooting. in a statement the company says our hearts and prayers are with the families of this devastating crime. it's a crime not just heartbreaking but baffling the police and dalton's neighbors. >> he's a quiet guy. never had any problems. cops never been to his house before. reporter: also baffling because uber says the suspect passed their background check. police confirm he has no criminal history. we're told he could be in court as early arz tomorrow. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. >> frank: another drizzly day across the mountains and the up state with significant rain on the way. karen wynne joins us with our sky watch forecast. >> karen: light scattered showers going on across the mountains with stezier rain in the northern mountains. this is no big deal compared to what's coming our way. future radar.

came up with a big idea. >> i just feel not good inside. >> isaiah wanted to help out. he and his parents called the elementary school in flint to see what they could do. >> they had water bottles. we asked if it okay if you get us hand sanitizer. we said, sure. reporter: his parents say the principal told them students were afraid to wash their hands. they then helped their sunday set up a go fund me page to raise money. at last check that's almost $9,000. >> when you think of something with the parents support and guidance, you can take it as far as -- however far it goes. reporter: the parents say the first shipment of hand sanitizer arrived at eisenhower friday. they captured isaiah's reaction when he heard the news. the selflessness doesn't end there. >> right now we have enough for

>> frank: the water in chris stall city, texas is no longer crystal clear. in fact it's the opposite. that story tops tonight's newsreel. dark colored water flowing from faucets for the past few days. people who live there say it looks more like black sludge or oil and it stinks. official says it was caused by sediment leaking into distribution lines when a water tower was drained and flushed. the city says it's own testing shows it is safe to drink from the tap. but in a move rem any sent of flint, michigan, officials trucked in loads of bottled water and test results are expected as soon as tuesday. drinking more coffee could reduce your chans of a common liver disease. researchers looked at nine studies and determined two cups

alcohol related psorosis. alcoholism is the second most common cause of that condition in the u.s. experts saying drinking coffee will never balance out all negative effects of excess alcohol consumption. a grass fire in colorado burned about 1200 acres. it's happening on a remote area of fort carson army training range. it started saturday morning during a training exercise. fire crews worked to set up a fire line to keep the blaze contained. there's no word on how much of that fire is contained. the people of fee ji started to clean up after the strongest storm ever recorded. winds of more than 180 miles per hour. that's the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane. the storm took down trees, knocked out electricity, caused

a nationwide cur few is in effect until monday morning for workers to clear the roads and restore power. extreme weather down there. we're going to have a little bit of rain coming in. here is meteorologist karen wynne. >> karen: we're in a wet pattern so keep that umbrella nearby. although it's not going to be total rain for the next several days. we have heavy downpours in the forecast. i'll show you when the heaviest rain moves in.

thunderstorms and cooler air weather. >> karen: if you have the light jacket and the umbrella on honed evening. light showers continue to move in from the west and that is next several hours. they are coming ahead of an approaching cool front. right now in asheville it's cloudy and mild. 57 degrees, winds are calm and we're quite humid. in greenville cloudy and 65, breezier for you. southwest winds at 12 miles per hour. but that's not too bad when it's 65 degrees out. a quick look at several future cast models. by midnight tonight the front should be through the mountains, over the northern tier of the up state. through the overnight it moves south taking the moisture with it. tomorrow morning, dry but as we go through the afternoon into

we are on the leading edge of another wave of moisture. this is going to bring some heavy rain as we go into monday night. a very wet tuesday morning by 6:00 a.m. plenty of moisture over the mountains and the up state with an area of low pressure moving through. then tuesday later in the day it moves away from us. a dry afternoon but then midnight. on wednesday, once against, we are on the leading edge of a wave of moisture and this system is expected to bring storm ours way and heavy rain. as we look closer to home, we can see by 8:00 p.m. just a few of the scattered showers continuing. thenene go through the overnight and they pretty much fall apart. they are out of here. early morning commute will feature patchy fog, that's really it. the rain holding off until later on. by noon a few light showers in the up state. by dinner time, much of the

going to be getting wet. then we see this big blob of green. steady rain, heavy at times, that wet morning commute by 6:00 a.m. on tuesday the rain is coming down full force. it pulls out and we get a break before that wednesday wave. how much rain are we talking about here? the waves beginning tomorrow night on through tuesday could put down between 1-2 inches of rain in the south western mountain counties. not as much in the asheville and parts of the northern mountains. lows tonight mild. 45 asheville... franklin 41... greer 50. another warm day. we check out the rest of the week. we could have an addition gnat 1-2 inches of rain on wednesday along with storms. possibly a light wintery mix to begin thursday. drier and cooler later on in the week.

the car digs in and banks up. his day is pretty much done. 31 laps to go and dale jr. loses control. slams his car. he was okay but his day was over. the dale jr. fans and dale jr. can't believe i. the final lap of the race and denny hamlin jumps out to the league. we come to the finish and it's the closest finish in the history of the daytona 500. denny hamlin just edges out martin jr. by a couple of inches. look how close that finish is. denny hamlin wins the great american race. this is the first daytona 500 victory for hamlin and joe gibbs racing. here's the top seven drivers and the points earned for the finish today. hamlin winning the 500 is a milestone in his career. >> you know, toyota, four of the top five.

and myself and fed ex and, gosh. tutun four is probably the trickiest part of this racetrack. >> what a finish at the daytona 500. next weekend nascar heads to atlanta motor speedway. the inca wrestling team is having the best weekend ever in school history. jets winning their first ever team state championship this weekend. the first team wrestling state championship from a buncombe county school. the jets beat out north henderson and hickory ridge by three points to claim the title. plus a first state title for a boys team in inca since the 1970 baseball team. congratulations. the carolina day girls basketball team beat davidson day on saturday to win the wildcats sixth consecutive state championship. we'll have their reaction on news 13 at 11:00. the unc asheville baseball team
