four bicyclists struck on a north carolina road. why the driver says this serious accident was unavoidable. >> now from western north carolina's news leader, this is news 13 at 11:00. >> frank: we begin with presidential politics. what is next for south carolina? the gop primary is history now the democrats come to down. vermont senator sanders wasted no time following loss to hillary clinton with a following in the up state today. news 13 justin hinton is back from greenville. what did the senator key on? >> justin: he keyed on a message of change as he battles the establishment to create a form of government that he says represents everyone and not just a handful of wealthy people.

injuries. he then shot two people to death at an auto dealership. fired upon five more people at a cracker barrel restaurant. four victims died and a 14-year-old were left with life threatening injuries. >> they weren't targeted for my reason ordinary reason they are there to be a target. they were shot multiple times. >> frank: police arrested dalton today. he's expected to be formally charged tomorrow. tonight we're hearing from a witness who was a passenger with dalton on an uber ride before the shooting ram pain. matt says he was shaken after a bizarre trip that took him on a high speed journey before he managed to get out. >> he wouldn't stop. he kept looking at me like don't you want to ride to your friend's house? i was like, well, yeah. but i want to get tere alive. >> frank: another potential passenger posted an uber

prosecutors say the woman lured the woman to her home in march 2015 using a craigslist ad for maternity clothing. the woman survive bud her baby did not. four bicyclists suffered serious injuries hit by a driver on a north carolina road. it happened yesterday afternoon. two of the cyclists are in critical condition. the others listed as stable. state troopers say the victims were hit from behind by 50-year-old donny williams. williams says there was another car coming in the opposite direction that there was not room to avoid the cyclists. this accident shocked many in the biking community. >> my comment is why didn't she wait? why didn't she slow down? why did she try to pass when it wasn't safe? the two seconds she would have saved passing them wasn't worth it. it's absolutely not worth it. >> the highway patrol says all the victims were wearing reflective gear. charges are pending against

>> frank: a 60-year-old man has a heart attack stocking shefls in a grocery store. among the first spoernds rushing to is scene a member of his own family. a son unknowingly saved his father's life. >> inside a classroom at east burke high school, a person who is a part of a plan. >> i'm a believer in god. i think it was god's plan for me took there. >> 18-year-old james was visiting a friend when the worst happened. >> i knew right then that he more than likely had a heart attack. >> 60-year-old employee michael kitty collapsed. james started compressions and a few nurses that were shopping started respirations. >> half way here dispatch came back and said it was cardiac arrest. >> steve is another part of the plan. he was one of the first firefighters on the scene. >> i took over assisting with respirations.

saturday afternoon when someone nearby opened fire and hit carter. we saw air transport leaving as family members rushed to the hospital. a short time later the worst news. >> we can't have anywhere our kids play. every time something happens nobody knows anything. >> he was a first grader. his aunt is a teacher for the school district. >> over 60 children shot over the past 12 months >> the district superintendent is fed up. once again he stood beside a grieving family. >> too much pain. too many tears. it has to stop. >> his dad says the gun violence in neighbor social security out of control. >> it's so easy to get a gun. >> he lost his 14-year-old brother in 2003 to an accidental shooting. now a son. >> where the real men at.

>> you saw what happened, please say something. a six-year-old. just think about your life at six. it can easily be your family next. >> frank: a double decker bus catches fire on a highway in chicago. firefighters say it was fully engulfed by flames by the time they got to the scene. passengers say they smelled rubber from the start of their trip, heard a pop and explosion. the bus started burning sending smoke 30 feet into the air. the driver and passengers were able to get out in time. tropical cyclone winston claimed at least ten lives. a curfew was lifted hours ago. the airport has been reopened but as a precaution schools are shut down this week. the prime minister declared a state of emergency for the next thirty days as crews clean up and assess damage caused whenen the monster storm hit the island nation on saturday. meteorologist karen wynne

overnight hours we are going to see this front slowly sag southward taking any moisture with it. but then we have a wave moving back into the mountains as we go into the afternoon and the evening. by 6:00 tomorrow evening, we see the leading edge of some heavy rain approaching the mountains. it will be a wet night on monday. a very wet tuesday morning commute with this area of low pressure rolling through the region. the good news is tuesday afternoon we get a break from the rain. just plenty of clouds before our next round begins to make a move into our region come wednesday. that is going to bring heavier rain and some thunderstorms. hour by hour we go. as we take a closer look at the mountains and the up state, 6:00 a.m. starting off cloudy. areas of patchy fog. by midday, we see some of the showers moving back to the north and some of our southern most up state counties could begin to get a little wet. we see the rain coming down

for the best racers in nascar. chase elliot did not have his best day on the track. last night getting loose on turn four, then the car digs in the grass and bangs up the front of the car. his day would be done. fast forward with 31 laps to go. dale jr. slams his car into the inside wall of the track. he was okay but his day was over. not pleased and the dale jr. fans can't believe it. we come down to the final lap of the race and it gets interesting. hamlin makes the unbelievable move on the inside and jumps into the lead with martin jr. as we come to the finish line it's the closest finish in the history of the daytona 500. hamlin wins bay cup of inches. hamlin wins the great american race. the first daytona 50 victory for

oklahoma state. first of lefb home games in a row for carolina. the carolina day girls basketball team won the sixth state championship this weekend. beating davidson day on saturday night. i was able to catch up with the team to get their ri action to the victory. >> it's exciting. not many people get the opportunity to be a state champ even once. we got it -- i've gotten it four times in a row. it's still mind boggling to be able to do that. it's a team that everybody doubted the most out of any team joe's ever had. it felt good to prove everybody wrong. >> con congratulations to carolina day. unc asheville going for the first victory of the season in baseball.

unc asheville baseball team entered looking for first victory of the season. losing the first two games against ohio university but today proved to be a good day at greenwood fill. hungry for the first win and it shows this afternoon by their play. bulldogs leading 6-3. striking out the side with two runners on base for ohio university. bottom of the 7th. a single back up the middle bringing home owens to increase the lead.
