determine if any federal laws were violated at brevard high school. racial tensions there led to a student being charged with disorderly conduct and ethnic intimidation in november of last year. 3 3 developing in burke county, a beloved lananark was destroyed by fire. now, the a-t-f is involved in the investigation to find out why. the old hildebran school house was built nearly 100 years ago. but it only took hours for flames to destroy it. for the past year, residents fought to save the building from demolition after town leaders voted to tear it down. 3 "it's a piece of my heart it's a piece of my heart going up over there."sad day. sad day for hildebran. the chief of the hildebran fire department credits firefighters with keeping the flames from spreading to the town hall, which is right next door. 3 3 3 there are new developments now... involving the new north carolina congressional map. the original voters who sued, claiming the first map was racially gerry-mandered, are now asking federal judges to decide if the new map is legal. they want the judges to issue

because of the new map, the general assembly changed the date of the congressional primaries from march 15th to june seventh. 3 the n-double-a-c-p calls the new map unconstitutional. the group says it still dis- proportionately groups minority voters into three congressional districts... even though lawmakers used the results of recent elections, and not race, to re-draw the map. the n-double-a-c-p wants the panel of federal judges to draw the map themselves. 3 3 both mountain congressmen are reacting to the new redistricting map and the primary delay. in a statement to news 13, a spokesman for 10th district representative patrick mchenry said: "congressman mchenry shares constituent's confusion and frustration with the late change to north carolina's congressional primary date." he goes on to say mchenry will continue to represent the people of the 10th district in washington -- no matter when the primary is held. 3 3 part of the new map moves avery county out of the 11th district. congressman mark meadows tells us... "i trust the state legislature to

issue and defer to the proposal that it has presented." 3 in minnesota - a man faces 25 counts of possessing and receiving child pornography. danny heinrich is also a suspect in the 19-89 kidnapping of an 11-year-old boy. the young boy was abducted while riding his bike and has not been seen since. authorities say d-n-a testing also links heinrich to attacks on other young boys. decades later, one of the alleged victims said it is unfortunate the statute of limitations expired before heinrich could be prosecuted. 3 "i feel like procrastination on law enforcement side may have constituted injustice on my side. so although i can't prosecute danny heinrich i feel that there's a lot of other victims that haven't received answers as well." danny heinrich pleaded not guilty to all 25-pornography counts in court yesterday. 3 3 3 topping this morning's newsreel... the search for a murder suspect in chicago eads authorities to eastern iowa. authorities say 22-year-old kevin edwards is

unpredictable." he's accused of killing nine-year-old tyshawn lee in chicago last year. chicago police believe edwards and two other men lured the boy into an alley -- where they shot and killed him. it is believed to be gang related. 3 in florida, police say a 15- year-old boy admitted murdering his 10-year-old sister. the teen said it was an accident, but gave police three separate stories of what happened. their father reported the young girl missing. police then found her body in a large field behind her home. the state attorney plans is attempting to try the teen as an adult. 3 a dramatic rescue in the sacramento area after a series of crashes sent a moving truck over a guardrail, trapping the driver inside the burning vehicle. it took close to an hour and dozens firefighters to help save driver. he was conscious, but firefighters say the biggest problem was just getting to him. 3 (joe tinney, davis fire dept.) you can't get there really with a fire engine so we had totodo all of our operations from up here from on top of the roadway. so it was a big challenge. we had to do some things real quickly." highway

3 the plane came down outside the airport. it plowed into several parked cars. one of the wings was ripped off. there is no word yet what forced the pilot to make the unusual landing. thankfully, no one on the ground or in the plane was hurt. 3 the death toll from a tropical cyclone that swept through fiji now stands at 28 people. the storm hit the island nation over the weekend, leaving widespread damage. a state of emergency is in effect for 30 days as a major cleanup operation gets underway. 3 officials close a 12-mile stretch of highway in honolulu because of giant waves washing over the roads. some of those waves brought big rocks with them. only emergency vehicles, city buses, and residents are allowed to pass. workers are now cleaning up the debris left behind. beach officials say this is the biggest swell they have seen in a decade. 3 3 3 3 we are just days away from the oscars. how crews are preparing for the stars.

3 in this morning's the buzz, just days before the oscars, a new study is shining light on the lack of diversity in hollywood. researchers at the university of southern california studied 414-films and series. the report found out of more than 11-thousand speaking roles studied, 71- point-7 percent were white and 12-point-2 percent were black . it also found women and minorities were under- represented as directors, writers, and show creators in the industry. 3 meanwhile, the early preparations for the award show are underway. crews are getting the hollywood boulevard red carpert ready for the a-list stars, including cast members from the best picture nominee "spotlight." the oscars air this sunday. 3 kim kardashian west posted a photo of her three-month-old son, saint west, for the first time. on her website, she said: "today is my dad's birthday. i know there's nothing more in the world he would have wanted than to meet
