3 this just in... mitchell county schools are now closed. power lines are down at an 3 intersection in the leicester community. dispatchers tell me this incident is at the intersection of noland hills drive and icenhower road. this is in the turkey creek area... so avoid that intersection. no accidents are reported right now in wester north carolina... but you should be prepared for icy spots on the road. with windy conditions, dispatchers say trees have been coming down... but right now there are no issues reported. use caution especially on bridges and overpasses this morning, as those freeze first. i'm lauren brigman with this on-time traffic report... brought to you by the wired mouse computer solutions. 3 3 3 in the eastern two-thirds of the u-s, vicious storms left at least seven people dead.as kendis gibson reports,

that killed 27-animals. officials say keeping up on infrastructure improvements and animal care has become difficult without enough funding. so, they set a fundraising goal of 500- thousand dollars for this year. 3 s. nigel platt, hollywild animal park"realistically, we need it this year prior to december to make our operation costs run smoothly and to bring us back to the level where we should be." along with the 500-thousand dollar goal this year, the hollywild staff hopes to raise 250-thousand dollars every year after 2016. donation information is on our website, wlos-dot-com. 3 3 we are getting a look this morning at what an overdose reversal drug can do through newly released video. it's called narcan... and several mountain agencies have begun using it. this video comes from pennsylvania. it shows a man sitting in the front of a bus, overdosing on heroin and passing out. first responders arrive and use the drug to revive him. he is able to stand up and walk off the bus. this same drug is what the

been using for some time. 3 our next step is to start tracking this data, so we are going to start pinpointing where we're actually responding and using the narcan so we can see if there's a concentrated area for this age, gender, things like that.3 a number of agencies have said heroin is a problem in the region. a-p-d has considered using narcan but at this time, we are told, they do not have plans of using it. 3 3 a new effort begins to help give certain dogs the space they need. it is called "project yellow." the asheville humane society and buncombe county animal shelter launched the initiative. dog owners put a yellow ribbon on their leash... to give passers-by a heads up to use caution or ask permission before approaching a dog. 3 26:33 they could have a medical condition they could be deaf and need to be approached a certain way so you never know and we just wanted to get that out there :43 the yellow ribbons are available at the humane society's adoption center. 3 3 it was an emotional reunion for a man who saved the life

police say two teens shot brody 18 times with a bb-gun and threw a knife at him. but the pup took a big step in his recovery when he was reunited with the man who saved him. 3 darryl lietzesie/ rescuer: "for some reason when i walked in he looked like he knew me." darryl: "it destroyed me especially when i touched his head and said, 'are you going to be alright little buddy?' and he looked at me." the pup has already been adopted. he will spend a few more days in the hospital before he gets to go home with his new family. 3 3 3 happening today, a musical based on asheville will be previewed on broadway. the story and music of "bright star" was written by steve martin. it is set in asheville in the 20s and 40s, featuring bluegrass music about our city. it is martin's first broadway musical. 3 mark jones, local director: "once they leave the broadway and the national tours, they become available for theaters like asheville community theater to do and it would be a show that i would love to direct or be a part of as an actor or a singer." talk about

3 living in the mountains, it's known the weather can change in a drastic way, even in a short period of time. and this past winter season has been no exception. shorts and t-shirts were broken out as temperatures approached 70 degrees on christmas. then, not even a month later, snow records were broken on january 22nd with 10-point-six inches measured in asheville. while el nino has been the strongest on record this year, it will come to an end, while climate change is ever evolving. 3 jake: 04:13 "we are warming the world. we are warming here in the u.s.. there is no doubt in the data, in historical data, that climate change is happening."jason: 37:56 "i think that's the kind of cycle we're here in western north carolina. i don't see anything

3 it is 5:xx ... this new jersey girl is 76 pounds of toughness.17 i like that you get to hit people without getting in trouble for it meet jesselyn silva. she is only 9- years-old, but has already been boxing for two years! her coach says she is more disciplined than some teenaged boxers he works with... and that she is well on her way to becoming a champ in the sport. it does not come without obstacles, though. there are not many girls or boys jesselyn's age for her to compete with. most of her family supports her, but her father says her grandmother is a little old fashioned, and not a fan of it. 3 3 here is a look 3 at current conditions.. here are your weather headlines for today.. up next.. we'll talk about what to expect in the extended forecast. 3 3
