-- we're looking at a couple inches on the ground just judging from the picture. it's snow on the grouped but not on the roadways. even the untreated roads are doing ok but there will be black ice in these higher elevations. watch out and exercise caution if you go higher in the elevation and closer to the tennessee border. it's really coming down here. -- i-40. then get up into these areas and still some snow coming down 2/21 into highway 70. >> winter weather advice sorry reece until 7:00 o'clock for all these counties in pump path -- advisor reece. black ice and blowing snow reduce visibility. temperature at 33. we came up a degree in asheville. but it's freezing in these areas.

justin what did the superintendent tell you. >> well basically that they were referring their incidents to student resource officers so it may appear that their numbers are high but they found out that helps keep the students safe. why are we here at buncombe county to see how the western school district shapes up. from owen to erwin and the schools in between when there's an incident that falls in the reportable crimes list school administrators reported to the state. >> that report is made through our student information system and the data comes directly from there to d.p. i. >> that means homicide rape or kidnapping to assault on teachers firearms or alcohol -- >> and when we see things that are wrong we will report it. we will give consequences for that situation. we'll communicate this is not something you can do in this building or in our culture.

released for the 2014-2015 school year combined with early college the high schools in buncombe county have the 10th highest in the state. we pulled records finding reportable crimes ranging from bomb threats to drug offenses. >> most of the time in schools it's more possession so it's really more about having it on their persons or in their possession at some point. >> but school officials say they're continuously working to reduce crime levels and year to date the crimes are down. >> we're doing a much better job with teaching folks about weapons and educating parents and monitoring that and getting the message out to folks. >> we're seeing decreases in a lot of other areas. >> now thompson says they look at the numbers throughout the school years and are constantly working on way ways to reduce

several people developing tonight authorities in kansas say four people are dead including the suspect. a number of others hurt in a shooting. it happened north of wichita at the excel industries plant that makes lawn missouri were products. the suspect was an employee -- he's been shot and killed by law enforcement. the sheriff says the shootings are connected and the suspect fired shots from his car. >> it is the distraction that drivers are still legalized do in north carolina. state laws ban drivers from texting while driving which ties up your eyes and hands. >> but there's no law to keep your years open to what's going on around you. >> -- your ears open. >> some emergency responders say

we still have dark blue on the radar and another reinforcing band of snow coming across the smoke keys this is heavy snow folks -- so they're getting decent snow fall. same thing into haywood county. waynesville you might get up to an inch on the grassy services but the roadways have been wet in a lot of cases even though the temperature has been at freezing or below. the treated roads should be mostly ok. that doesn't mean you're going to get out there and go to the speed limits. there will be patchy black ice thus use common sense you know and just slow down. some snow coming down mitchell and we've had snow over 221 and 19 e and it's been snowing off and on. there's light accumulations. this is not a major snowstorm by any stretch of the imagination

thirty-three in asheville. northwest 13 the wind and boy that wind chill is a 24 degrees. that's not fun is it? that wind is just going to continue to be a problem tonight into tomorrow afternoon. look at the center of low pressure that brought the storms to the southeast and all the rain to our neck of the woods well up into canada. it's hundreds of miles away that we're dealing with the wind in that system. high pressure is going to pull into get the winds to relax. high pressure is a good thing. i think h for happy weather because sunshine is back and our winds will shift back to the south and west. that's going to help warm us up big time into sunday. so here's your future cast. midnight still snowing in the high country. still times burst of snow. then tomorrow we start out with clouds over the mountains. maybe some light snow early and then it's all about sunshine in the afternoon but the wind yes still a factor.
