that's a look at your on-time traffic report, brought to you by the wired mouse. back over to you. >> holly: today, mcdowell county dss is calling a special meeting in hopes of finding families for the county's foster children. >> jay: lauren brigman joins us live from the dss office in marren yo. they are experiencing a critical need for foster families? >> lauren: yeah, right now, about more than 100 children here in mcdowell county are in need of foster homes. so, that need has more than doubled compared to this time last year. they are holding a special meeting tonight at mcdowell county dss tonight at 6:00 for anyone interested in fostering a child. we are talking to jenny milsap this morning. we have been talking about how the need is there, but it's also a very difficult thing to take on, to become a foster parent? >> absolutely. the families take in the children, they love them and take care of them when they are crying after visits i. takes special people to become foster parents. >> lauren: what do you look for when you're talking to

foster parent? qualities i guess? >> we look for someone who is willing to give their time, their energy and just be there for a child and is willing to take kids to the visits, and just love the child and be there. >> lauren: as you all as part of mcdowell county dss put a lot of time and effort into placing the children into the perfect home. how does that placement process work? >> absolutely. we work really hard to match up the child with the family, so we want to try to child in the same school district and make sure it's a good fit for the child and the family. >> lauren: these number, these are huge numbers compared to last year. more than 100 children we are talking all different ages, why do you think this need continues to grow here? >> i think it continues to grow because we have seen an increase of drug use of birth parents and smaller children being concern testing positive for drugs. >> lauren: why would you encourage someone in mcdowell about it and think they have the time and ability do this. why would you encourage them to take the next step?

next step because we have so many kids that just need a family, someone that will take care of them and love them. >> lauren: definitely a lot of love needed and it's a very difficult situation sometimes i imagine. >> absolutely. >> lauren: all right. if you would like more information, come here at the 6 p.m. mcdowell county dss. i'm lauren brigman. >> holly: a major theft case involving the largest chir you much in the mountains, involves jeffrey steevers is accuse of stealing $40,000 worth of equipment and pawning it and breakg into the church vehicles. arrest warrants indicate he took tools worth $9,000 from someone else. >> jay: three men many shelter are accused of shooting up vehicles in a downtown hotel lobby. 50 shots were fired into a suv, a van and lobby door of the hyatt hotel. no one was hurt. investigators do not believe it was a random act of violence. the suspects are charged with

dwelling and discharging a firearm within city limits. >> holly: in this morning's news reel, massachusetts police investigate an officer-involved shooting that left a man hurt. >> jay: authorities say officers shot the man after responding to a reportf a domestic disturbance between a mother and son in dartmouth. police say the man charged the officers with a knife. police reportedly used a taser but it didn't help and an officer then fired his weapon. the man was taken to the hospital for treatment. >> holly: the faa investigates a plane crash in texas that killed two adults and two children. the sheriff's deputies say the kids were ages 5-12. it appears it was a hard landing in a wooded area half a mile from the airport's landing strip. all passengers on board died. >> jay: a small plane makes an emergency landing on a highway in indiana. the pilot safely guided the aircraft into the median to avoid you know coming traffic. police say aaron wright and wife and 13 year-old son were flying to a soccer game when the plane

>> they lost power. mr. wright tried to turn it around and make it back to the seymour airport. realized they weren't going to be able to make it that far. >> jay: the faa is investigating. >> holly: making news around the world, a building collapse in china killed at least six people. >> jay: the top three floors opt six story complex came down. the incident report was caused by the fourth floor collapsing, they were able to pull survivors from the debris. >> holly: a teenager confessed to a hostile act and gave an emotional plea at a news conference north korean officials say he requested the conference. >> jay: he is accused of stealing a banner of a wall. they say he was encouraged by a secret university society and the cia. >> holly: there was a mining accident that is believed to have left 36 people dead.

40 degrees, which is about where we are right now. but look at where we normally are. 42 degrees. 51 in burnsville. or bryson city rather. burnsville 42. asheville 48 and forest city, upper 40s in gaffney and greer to greenwood at 50 degrees so starting off on a positive note this morning. it's only a 10% chance today, 40% chance for rain on tuesday, bump it up to 60 on wednesday, when we do have a chance for thunderstorms and a few of those to turn severe. and we will drop it back down to a zero pocket chance on thursday. the wind has picked up in asheville, but not much. three miles per hour. looking at knoxville at 20. 9 in greenville. clemson 15 right now in anderson at 16 and boone. we are expecting our winds to increase especially in the higher elevations as we go throughout the afternoon. and then we will have this quick moving cold front, it's not going to do much to us today. as high pressure then builds in. 8 a.m. this morning

across the region. 50s and 60s once again. shine expected today. dinnertime, still in the 50s but then cooling back down to the upper 30s in some locations. and then we will start to see the clouds to on the increase and a a chance for the rain by around lunchtime tomorrow. and then more widespread on wednesday, with that chance for some thunderstorms. how much rain are we expecting? it won't be much according to my model here, showing a quarter inch by 5 p.m. on tuesday. then more widespread as we look forward into wednesday afternoon. and, of course, we see the thunderstorms. that's when we have those downpours. 62 degrees for a high temperature in asheville. so a couple degrees cooler than what we got to yesterday. in asheville tonight back down to up ther 30s. upper 60s, close to 70 degrees in greenville today. and tonight back down to 44. seven-day forecast shows scattered showers, ted cruz, wednesday, and then we turn cooler by friday. maybe a quick shot at a wintry mix as temperatures drop below the freezing mark.

charges are end thing against the driver. so far it's not clear what caused that truck to crash. >> jay: happening to day, suspects in two high profile murder cases in asheville are scheduled to appear in court. a probable cause hearing is scheduled this morning for pierre griffin the second. the hearing was continued earlier this month. griffin is accused of killing uhon johnson, alexandra king and tatiana diabetes. buncombe county district attorney also request add rule 24 hearing to determine whether the state will seek the death penalty. robin richardson, the woman accused of killing a wlos employee is also scheduled to be in court this evening no. richardson is charged with the first degree murder of tim fry. back in december, warrants state richardson shot him, claiming he assaulted her. she remains in jail without bond. >> holly: buncombe county deputies are investigating a bizarre theft at a home depot on fairview road. a deputy says james mayson stole a leaf blower and returned it for credit and did it again with

he is charged with misdemeanor larceny and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses. an asheville man remains in critical condition after a weekend car crash. troopers say on saturday afternoon, christopher love was hour on the charlotte highway when he lost control and slammed into a concrete wall. vehicle. he is now charged with dwi and several other traffic >> holly: happening to day, the newest addition to the henderson county sheriff's office will be named. as we reported, two bloodhound puppies started training last month. fifth graders from hill endale and etowah schools picked the names and they will be revealed at 2:00 in a pep rally at clear creek. >> jay: hundreds of physical therapies across north carolina are getting an extra line of work. they are now using needles to treat patient's pain.
