coverage on our website ... wlos dot com. we have an "election 2016" page where you can view upcoming events and the latest from the campaign trail. 3 3 early voting for the march 15th primary begins thursday. for the first time, voters will be required to show some form of photo i-d at the polls. this could be a problem for people who do not have a driver's license or any other photo i-d. however, the buncombe county director of election services says there is a way those people can still vote. they can sign what is called a 'reasonable impediment declaration.' 3 voters will be asked to sign a declaration that basically states, for -there's a list of reasons-for whatever reason, i have not been able to obtain a photo i.d. and, they will sign that declaration, and workers will provide them with a ballot. for more 3 for more information, visit our website, wlos dot com. 3 3 3 today, north carolina adds

measure passed last general session... and will be part of the state's new budget. news 13's lauren brigman joins us now. lauren, how much revenue is the new tax expected to generate? almost 85-million- dollars... and it will reach your wallet in many different ways. 3 from clothing and shoe reparis... to plumbing... or having your car fixed... you can expect to pay more starting today. republican legislators say this is part of the move toward consumption taxes and away from personal income tax. those taxes will be cut next year... and the state budget will still have a shortfall from the difference. opponents say this will be more difficult on lower income households... to pay taxes on the things you buy and not your income. 3 the sales tax rate varies depending on where you live. coming up at five-thirty... we'll take a look at some examples. holly... 3 3 3 happening today, a woman charged in a d-w-i accident four years ago is scheduled to be in court. karan wheeler underwent a medical re- evaluation ordered by a judge

mentally capable to stand trial in buncombe county. police say wheeler was drunk and crossed the center line on new leicester highway, hitting another vehicle. the crash left both drivers with brain injuries. wheeler is facing charges including felony serious injury by vehicle and d-w-i. 3 3 news 13 has obtained the 9-1- 1 call from a high-profile murder case. it involves the shooting death of w-l-o-s employee tim fry back in december. robin richardson was fry's girlfriend, and is charged with first-degree murder. she made the 9-1-1 call from the home the couple shared in arden. warrants state that richardson told detectives she shot fry because he had assaulted her. that is also what she said to the emergency dispatcher. 3 dispatcher: were you having an argument?richardson: yes. dispatcher: have you been assaulted?richardson: i'm sorry.dispatcher: have you been assaulted?richardson: yes. dispatcher: ok, and where did you shoot him on his body?

dead or alive. richardson's 3 voice stays calm throughout that 9-1-1 call. once deputies arrive, she can be heard saying, "i shot him". she remains in the buncombe county jail under no bond. 3 3 3 now an update to a story we first brought you friday night. news 13 has confirmed a deputy at the jackson county sheriff's office has been fired for giving a driver the middle finger. it happened thursday morning along i-40 when deputy van anthony and scott lipe crossed paths. lipe says he was recording the deputy on his phone for speeding. then on camera, anthony gave him the middle finger. 3 3 canada has officially resettled 25-thousand syrian refugees. that's making headlines this morning...

3 the last plane arrived over the weekend. the government missed its original deadline to bring in 25-thousand refugees by new year's day. the minister of immigration says it was a necessary delay. he says he'll now focus on helping newcomers find housing and jobs. the canadian government plans to admit thousand more privately- sponsored refugees in 20-16. 3 two people are still on the run after a police chase near miami. authorities in oakland park say the first chase began yesterday. four people jumped out of a sedan and ran into an apartment complex. moments later, two of the four got into an s-u-v and sped off. police say the two abandoned the second vehicle and ran away,they eventually surrendered. 3 fire at a san francisco gas station destroys a small passenger bus and four fuel pumps. officials say the bus driver pulled into the station after his engine started overheating and smoking. the potential for explosions forced fire crews to retreat to a safe position and douse the bus in water. the blaze was extinguished roughly a

firefighter suffered minor injuries. 3 3 3 state health officials are extending their advisory about mercury... in a jackson county lake. they had previously warned of high mercury levels in large mouth bass in all north carolina waters. now, they are alerting the public about high mercury levels in walleye and small mouth bass in lake glenville. they recommend pregnant women or children under 15 not consume the fish from the lake. 3 1839 i don't think mercury is too healthy for you. so, seeing that i wouldn't eat the fish out of here. but i'd come out here and catch them for fun.3 health officials say there is no known risk from the high mercury levels in fish that affect swimming, boating, or the handling of fish. 3 3 a car lot in enka started the work week with a mystery, every car was covered in an unkown substance. the cars look like they have flurries stuck to them, about 200 cars at debruhl's used car lot have this on them. the employees
