we are not talking rain but we will. we have clouds to start. 8 a.m., 43 degrees up from the 30s which we are at right now in some locations. 54 at 10 a.m. and lunchtime 59 and we will start to see some rain fall later on this afternoon. but, who can see some severe storms? i will tell you in just a few minutes. heads up for drivers in weaverville, a new construction project may impact your commute, jaclyn? >> jaclyn: right, a portion of ox creek road is near the elk mountain scenic parkway. dot plans to reopen thursday evening but keep in mind if you live in weaverville or southeast of weaverville, that might slow you down a little bit. getting a look at travel time, things are slow on patton avenue, i-240 westbound is slow, traffic is slowing between the bowen bridge and i-40 this morning. gets a closer look at i-40, things are looking good from haywood county to buncombe county. it will take you 25 minutes to get from the maggie valley exit to smoky park highway.

>> reporter: 595 delegates are up for republicans of the 1037 needed. 865 are in contention for democrats who need 2383. i will work as hard as i can every single day. >> in today's democratic races hillary clinton is favored in nearly every state. for political analysts mow allicy said ( )berny sanders hit a demographic wall. >> he is not doing well with latino voters and african-american voters. >> reporter: so here is a couple things we will be watching. no. 1, what does the race look like at this time tomorrow? all the candidates said they do plan to stay in, regardless of today's result, but once the numbers roll in, you never know. they could change their minds. another thing we are going to be watching is will senator ted cruz and marco rubio continue to throw punches or will one or both of them bow out of the race?

family members say akeel denton was unarmed, after the shooting people started chanting "black lives matter." the police chief says there was a gun found near the suspect. promised a thorough accident. >> jay: a woman charged in a dwi accident four years ago, karen wheeler, underwent a medical evaluation ordered by a judge in december to see if she was mentally capable to stand trial in buncombe county. police say wheeler was drunk and crossed the center line on in the new leicester highway, hitting the vehicle driven by stacy garrett. the crash left both women with brain injuries. she faces felony serious injury by dwi. >> holly: an update to a story we first brought you friday night. news 13 has confirmed a deputy at the jackson county sheriff's office has been fired for giving a driver the middle finger. it happened thursday morning on i-40 when van anthony and scott light crossed paths.

and when on camera, he gave him the middle finger. >> jay: firefighters are working to determine what caused a fire that destroyed a mobile home. it happened off sharon road friday night. the fire chief says no one lives in the home but it still had power hooked up. he believes it is a complete loss. >> holly: state health officials are extended the advisory about mercury in a jackson county lake. they previously weared of high mercury levels in large mouth bass in north carolina waters. now they are altering the alert about the mercury in the wild life in glennville. they warn pregnant women and small children under 15 not to consume the fish in the lake. >> the mercury is not too healthy. seeing that, i wouldn't eat the fish out of here. but i'd come out and catch them for fun. >> holly: health officials say there is no known risk from the high mercury levels in fish that affect swimming, boating, or handling the fish. >> jay: in this morning's news

lookout for four suspects accused of stealing dozens of firearms. >> holly: it happened happened at a gun store in the atlanta area. the suspects used a car to break open a door at the store. officials say it took about three minutes for them to swipe 30 guns before leaving the scene. police want the guns off the streets. >> we don't know what -- who is going to purchase the guns or what hands are going to get into it, and we definitely want to get them back. >> jay: the gun shop is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the four suspects. >> holly: take a look at the video out of california. a semi crashes into a home, it spilled diesel into the scene. no word on what caused the crash. >> jay: a small passenger bus in san francisco and four fuel pumps were destroyed in a fire. officials say the bus driver pulled into the station after his engine started overheating

we will be right back. now, in high definition, this is your news 13 skywatch forecast welcome back, good morning. satellite does show the gray on the map, that's of course the cloud cover that rolled in overnight over the last couple hours. seeing some clearing in our northern and western zones but still here in asheville partly cloudy. we do have a chance as i mentioned before the break of severe storms. so, it gets worse from east-to-west. thunderstorm chance in the areas in the light green, the darker green, a marginal red, which mean as few thunderstorms may turn severe and a greater chance

which is just the far western zones in parts of northeast georgia. so, severe storms as in large hail, gusty wind and downpours. so, temperatures this morning, let's talk about this first. it's a little cooler than what we got down to yesterday. 36 degrees so far at the ashville airport. but, it's not that cold every where. in fact, it's 10 degrees warmer in greenville. 44 in greenwood. and into the foothills, but 30s to 20s across our northern zones. so 29 in newland, to 36 in asheville, and right now, right at freezing in franklin at 32. there is a wind after videry that will begin at 7:00 this evening through noon tomorrow, gustings up to 50 miles per hour. now, it's not for everyone here in our region, but just yancey, mitchell county and afraid, especially in the higher elevations. the reason we are having this chance for severe storms and also the gusty wind in those advisory areas is because we are seeing a stronger cold front move through the region. so, the timeline here is

have mostly a dry day, with the exception of a few areas. so 8 a.m., you don't need the umbrella just yet. we will see the clouds though. and then after lunchtime we will start to see a few showers develop, not until dinner. that's 6:00. watch as we see these heavier rain bands move through the region. we start to see the yellow and orange heavy downpours. then we start to see the blue. so a wintry mix just in the northern zones early tomorrow morning. so, not expecting anything down here in the valley locations in asheville. just that lingering moisture in the higher elevations. 6 p.m. today, still not seeing much in the way of accumulation until we move forward into tomorrow morning. we will start to see anywhere from about a quarter inch to a half inch here in the french broad river valley. our western zones in some areas further south could be closer to that three quarters of an inch maybe an inch if we get the thunderstorms. you know how that works. we will really start to see the rain come down. increasing clouds today, 61, so it will be another mild day turning windy tonight as well.

home, even shoes and watches. combined state and local taxes amount to 7% on transactions but the rate will vary by county. for example, you are looking at paying up to $15 more for a car repair that includes $200 in labor fees. opponents of the new tax say this will be more difficult on lower income households to pay taxes on things you buy and not on your income. now, the new taxes are expected to generate about $85 million for the state. jay, back to you. >> jay: news 13 13 obtained the 911 tape involving the shooting death of robin richardson charard in first degree madison square garden of tim fry. she made a 911 call from arden. she told detectives she shot fry because he had assaulted her. that's also what she said to the emergency dispatcher. >> okay.

report was just wrong, and another person found more discrepancies. >> attend of the day, i can't tell you they will investigate further and not find that this was, in fact, a suicide. but, i don't believe that enough questions have been asked by those in authority. >> holly: the carolina public press has compiled a google maps that trails her final moves. you can read their entire investigation on our web site. >> jay: an asheville man is behind bars accused of tazing two police officers. ronald patton is charged with assaulting an police officer and resisting arrest. it hapeed saturday when officers tried to arrest patton an an outstanding warrant. he became violent and grabbed a stun gun from the officer, he tazed one of the officers in the head and the other in thetorso. they suffered minor injuries. >> holly: a mitchell county man is sentenced to prison after being found guilty of statutory rape. jeffrey dye will spend 0 yores behind bars for sexually abusing a 14 year-old girl when he was

he is registered as a sex offender after he is released from prison. >> jay: deputies arrested a man from marion for first degree sex offense of a child, 48 year-old martin gad di said she found vapes of gad di having sexual contact with with an 11 year-old girl that allegedly happened in january of 2009. >>jay: mcdowell county deputies are searching for a missing woman and man her family believes a part in her disappearance. melanie burlson was reported missing friday. the 36 year-old mother of two was last seen at a party with waveletter mitchell who has a long criminal history in the area. he has gone to jail for accessory to murder and kidnapping and has been arrested for assault three times. >> i fear he has hurt her really bad or maybe even killed her. i don't know. this is so out of melanie's character. it's not like her. that's why we're all so worried. >> holly: deputies say mitchell is not a suspect in the

questioning. he did not show up for a court date yesterday morning in an unrelated case. if you have any information contact law enforcement. >> jay: caitlin jenner is giving transgender individuals a new platform of visibility. here in asheville, transgender teenagers are talking about their own transition for the first time publicly. news 13 spoke with three transgender teens who identify as male. each told a different story about their childhood. >> i didn't want to come out until earlier this year, actually. >> i was about maybe three or four that i started to feel like i was different. >> jay: tonight at 11:00, hear each teen's story and the one group that has made a major difference for all of them as they consider the next step in the juror sny considering taking on a new identity every car was covered in an unknown substance in inca. the cars looked like they have flurries stuck to them. 200 cars at debrule's used car

green, a few of these storms could turn severe, and a greater risk for severe storms in the slight category, which does encompass some western zones and down into northeast georgia. the possibility of hail, gusty wind and also the heavy downpours. we have to use caution. that will not be until the second half of the day. i will show you the timeline in a second. 32 normal for this time of the year. 54 normal for an afternoon high. we will exceed that once again today and this morning we are a little cool in ashehelle at 36. it's colder in burnsville and newland as well and boone. book at that, 29 degrees. 33 in morganton, but almost 10 degrees warmer in a lot of locations including spindale, rutherfordton, 44. freezing, below that actually in franklin. 46 degrees in greenville, anderson 45, and 44 in greenwood. now, this wind advisory, this begins at 7:00 this evening, goes until noon tomorrow for gusts up to 50 miles per hour. downed tree, power line, yancey,

so, we are seeing this instability ahead of the stronger front that will continue to push through the region today and tonight, so let's take a closer look at the heaviest rain. 8 a.m., you don't need an umbrella just yet. temperatures warming to the 60s by this afternoon with an increase in cloud cover. we will see a few showers throughout the afternoon and after dinner watch as we turn to yellow and orange. that means the heavier rain possible starting from the west and moving its way east. and then overnight, temperatures will drop back down, some lingering precipitation in the northern mountains could see a light dusting of that snow. nothing really expected back here down into the valley locations. so not much in the way of rain through dinnertime tonight. more widespread overnight, anywhere from about a quarter inch to a half inch of rain, across much of the region. isolated zones will see more than that. especially if we see those severe storms develop. increasing clouds, rain late day, 61 degrees in asheville. tonight we will be back down to 36 with thunderstorms likely. and into greenville today,

storm chance going up. temperatures very mild in the 60s and 40s tonight. it's not just tomorrow morning, but thursday and friday we see that chance for a wintry mix with a few showers throughout the day as temperatures warm above freezing. it will be 50s and sunshine into the weekend. here is upstate seven-day forecast. we will plan ahead before taking i-26 in madison county. jaclyn, you are seeing delays out there? >> jaclyn: right. so, get ready for that slow-moving traffic on i-26 westbound, traffic is slowing down between highway 19 all the way through to sam's gap this morning, so keep that in mind if you usually take this portion of 26 on your commute. back over in asheville, tunnel road is the problem area that you are going to want to avoid. traffic is slowing to 22 miles per hour there on the eastbound side. and downed trees are causing some problems this morning. u.s. 441 is temporarily closed between cherokee and gatlinburg because of fallen trees. there is no word when it will

africa, which is our headline act. they will gout and check out what is available and we will work to bring the people in. we have mother africa, they were there two years ago and they were a favorite act. loss upon chose go chose is from argentina. they are hilarious and very talented. we have a group from the united kingdom coming called the united kingdom euc laically ( ) orchestra, they play well known popular songs on the euc laically, so a lot of excitement. >> jay: talk the logistic its of getting the people and the troupes here. >> they come in before the festival begins and we house them and take care of them. we transport them back and forth. but, a lot of fun, a lot of different cultures that we get to experience as employees, too, because we do a lot of things. we then take them to t.v. stations and things like that. it's funner us to get to talk to them and learn more about their culture. so, they are really interactive with guests when they come the park after shows. they willtand and talk and

from us at the same time. >> holly: i know a lot of people love the shows and the food. i like the rides. i'm all about the roller coaster. i'm super excited. >> it is lightning rod, the world's first launching wood coaster. what i'm excited is it's the world's fastest wooden coaster. so all around the world, come to dollywood. you will be going fast. >> jay: that's going up and down? >> it launches you, by the time you get to the top of the lift hill you will be going 45 miles per hour. when you come down the other side it races up to 73 miles per hour. but it has a different track system which, although it's a wood coaster, it will be smooth like a steel coaster, kind of like wild eagle. so we are excited and what it will mean for the park. >> holly: it has 90-degree turns on it. this thing is wild. >> it is. we have said before a lot of nascar tracks are banked at 30 degrees, and imagine 90 degrees. you are literally on your side in the turns.
