>> larry: for the first time transgender teenagers are sharing their stories publicly. the message to parents who may have a child struggling with gender identity. now from western north carolina's news leader, this is news 13 at 11:00. >> darcel: rain is moving through the mountains and dropping the temperatures. >> larry: this system could bring some snow to parts of our area. over to jason for the latest. >> jason: the back edge of this rain already showing up pretty well. anything west of asheville is already dried out for the most part. same thing as you go down in the upstate. still holding down to rain showers. burke county, shelby, forest city. this is just rain. no severe weather threat either. heavy rain over in laurens county.

upstatement but there's still heavy rain to be had farther southeast. temperatures in the 40s in the southern mountains. 40s in asheville. middle and upper 50s in the upstate. everybody is cooling down tonight. look at the wind really starting to crank in the north. 22 in boone. we're already getting that wind to pick up south. that means wind will be a big factor tomorrow. wind advisories out until noon tomorrow for these counties. yancey, mitchell, avery. you'll wake up, mid to upper 20s. you woke up this morning to 30s and 40s and no wind. i'll show you which communities will be in a snowstorm. >> larry: here's a look at where things stand right now for the republicans.

massachusetts, tennessee, georgia, virginia, and arkansas. ted cruz, he's won his home state of texas and also oklahoma. for the democrats, hillary clinton won alabama, tennessee, georgia, arkansas and texas. >> darcel: and westernie sanders has won his home state of vermont and oklahoma. trump spoke about an hour ago and is claiming a super tuesday victory and says he's looking forward to the general election race against hillary clinton. >> larry: here's abc's marcy gonzalez. >> reporter: major wins in a majority of states for frontrunners donald trump and hillary clinton. >> the stakes in this election

>> i will campaign as long as it takes and wherever it takes to ensure that i am the next president of the united states. >> reporter: a big day with potential record voter turnout in several of the super tuesday states. the candidates now looking ahead in the next big primaries in michigan, ohio, and florida. >> darcel: north carolina's primary exactly two weeks from today and folks who follow the political process locally have their eyes on what's happening across the rest of the country tonight. news 13's frank kracher joins us live from a super tuesday watch party just wrapping up in downtown asheville. frank, who is the favorite there? >> frank: i can tell you that the folks who have been sitting here watching the returns come in on that big screen, all bernie backers. they're watching.

people grabbed a beer and hoped for the best. their attention was spread across 13 states. folks getting together to see how super tuesday would play out for all candidates. it's a lot like fans gathering to cheer on their favorite team. for some, it's all about the process. >> i just really enjoy watching our political system in action. hearing a lot of information about them on their actual experiences at the polls. >> it seems to me a lot of show involved, which we don't have so much. we have a lot of debating going on. this is the first time i'm following it this closely, especially in the primary. it's been very interesting. >> frank: especially interesting for michelle rikenback, a swiss born exchange student the unca who majors in political science. how appropriate. vote 2016 here in the united states is certainly offering

been an issue for a while in this county. but tonight was the first night that people in asheville brought the issue to the anderson county council and the historic courthouse. amara's supporters were seen and heard. they're all here from asheville because amara was starved and shot and left for dead in anderson county. >> this person needs to know that what this edid was very wrong. >> jerrika: the main voice is heidi wagner. wagner and amara's other supporters stood at tonight's anderson county council meeting urging for new ordinances that protect animals from being euthanized by their owners. >> you have six pages of animals. i have read those ordinances over and over and over. there's nothing. there's nothing that protects these animals in this county.

and she says she beliefs her message resonated with council. but she says she will be following up to see if changes are made. >> darcel: protestors are taking to the streets in raleigh after a drug suspect was shot and killed by police. coming up later, what the naacp is calling for. i didn't really come out until earlier this year, actually. >> i was about maybe three or four that i felt like i was different. >> larry: and transgender teenagers are sharing their personal stories.

teens, 17-year-old rorry fieldbrick. >> i didn't really come out until early this year. >> reporter: 16-year-old jackson emmett. >> i was maybe three or four i started to feel didierent. >> reporter: and ely tyler. >> coming out, it was hard. and it's still hard. >> reporter: all transgender teens. assigned female at birth, now transitioning to boys. >> the first time i cut my hair short and someone said oh, you look like a boy. i suddenly felt really happy. >> reporter: rory candidly showing this photo of himself as a 13-year-old saying at the time he felt confused. >> it will get better. >> reporter: ely tyler is a junior at east henderson high. >> it's very conservative. the atmosphere at school is not welcoming to me.

say the same. >> reporter: the teenagers all credit this group where they met. >> anxiety is pretty high. >> reporter: 16-year-old jackson a member for four years. during middle school at ac reynolds, he dressed in very feminine clothes. but at the time his mom advised to wait until jack was older. >> i felt more connected with my father than i did my mother. >> reporter: now with his mom's support, jack came out to his school and family this year. all three struggled through puberty and all are considering taking testosterone. >> we are in search for a gender therapist right now to just have the talk and see if this is the right path i want to take. >> reporter: one resource is the western carolina community

nurse practitioner me gan cain councils teens starting at 16 about testosterone shots and gels. >> there are potential risks involved. and the things we talk about with them are fertility. so if someone starts using testosterone to masculinize, it's not clear what the long-term effects that has on on fertility. >> reporter: she also counsels on risks and benefits transitioning to a body they feel is more authentic to who they are inside. the youth outright is where these teens have found a family. >> if they don't have support in either of those places, then having some place like this can save a life. >> reporter: parents they know can be the toughest ones to tell.

now your news 13 skywatch weather. >> jason: that front is not knocking on the door step, folks, and it's coming. already seen a big change in the rain. zooming in on some of the heavier rain bands now working through rutherford county, burke county, caldwell. but that's the end of the rain for now. sprinkles at the top of the hour. north wind at 16. here comes the chill. it feels like 40 degrees already. wind chills will come down in the teens by tomorrow morning. speaking of tomorrow morning, the drive cast. you have the yellow light out for windy and cold weather much of the day. two hands on the wheel tomorrow because these gusts will be over 30 miles per hour. 44 degrees in the afternoon.

then we move ahead past tomorrow in to friday. that's where things could get very interesting. we're watching a potential system here. snowstorm that could develop and bring significant snows to the mountains of western north carolina. and that would include some of the valleys as well in western north carolina. so this is thursday in to friday. thursday evening looking like the rain-snow mix starts to get going. asheville will be right on the borderline of temperatures. so i really think we're going to have limited accumulation in asheville at this point. really looking like a high elevation event. anything above 3,000 feet is going to get a good snow out of this if this plays out just like now. that system will blow east and it brings more cold in to the equation here. on friday, it snows a lot in those northern blue ridge communities, up in to the virginias and portions of the mid-atlantic. something to watch right now. okay. we're not going to write home about it but it's certainly

late week. winds, northwesterly all day long. and the sun's back after brief snow showers in the mountains in the morning. the clouds thicken up thursday afternoon. here come the thicker clouds. snows breaking out in the dark blues by thursday evening in the heart of the french broad river valley, rain initially. we get in to our snow fall late thursday evening in to early friday. one to three inch snow for some of these mountain communities west. i think these numbers will certainly go up more so in to higher elevations. temperatures in the 30s tonight. 20s to our north. very cold in the morning. 40s for highs in asheville. 30s north of i-40. it's going to be a much colder day there, too, in the mountains. 45 thursday. 47 friday.

on this super tuesday. super tuesday is -- or it almost was today. this year as you know super tuesday, this year only, will be followed by horrified wednesday. [ laughter ] there was voting today in 13 states with hundreds of delegates at stake. i think this was interesting. jeb bush spent his super tuesday. you know, he's not running now. he spent his super tuesday at home ironing and reironing his tommy bahama shirts. [ laughter ] every cable news channel covered every morsel of everything from morning until night today, and the funny thing is the election -- this election is still 250 days away. you'd think the red carpet coverage for the ochkz is long. and then you see this. i mean, it goes on and on and on. donald trump has been -- he's been defending himself after failing to immediately condemn an endorsement from former ku klux klan leader david duke. trump blamed his hesitation on a bad earpiece. or maybe he said hairpiece. i'm not sure.
