3 good saturday evening and 19...i'm savannah levins. 3 3 the recent heavy rain forced s-c-e and g to open a spillgate at the lake murray dam...flooding some low lying areas near the saluda river. news19s chuck ringwalt spoke to residents in the pine glen subdivision in lexington who say it's yet another set back,. 3 residents of the pine glen subdivision in lexington "the whole subdivision is paranoid about everytime we have a thunderstormrmout here." bill markham is one of many in this neighborhood that don't know what to do.the high water levels in lake murray forced s-c and g to open a spill gate. over 18 thousand cubic feet of water per second were released from the lake murray dam and into the saluda river leaving markham and others like johnny mcelveen in a panic. "every time they say were going to open up the levys and i have to go and snatch my equuiptment and take it upstairs and how bad is it going to be this time? how many times are we going to

homes this time...but markham says he's not so sure he'll always be this lucky. "i don't have any options to move. this neighborhood we're generally speaking the because of this continuing problem with flood water. the property values have suffered to the point where i couldn't sell my house and relocate, so that's not any option, so no i don't go anywhere."s-c-e and g spokeswoman ginny jones says that the spill gates had to be released so the water levels did not pass 360 feet above sea level. "it's the agreed upon number that we feel like we can safely operate the lake without impacting anything else surrounding it and make sure that we're doing everything safely."but with water creeping into backyards...it's another hardship for a neighborhood still recovering from the damage left from the october flood. in lexington county...chuck ringwalt...news 19 wltx.

closing the spillgate that it opened friday, as the amount of flood water flowing into the river is slowing.they opened the spillgates in an effort to reduce the rising water at lakemurray...due to flooding accoss the midlands this week.the water has been causing issues for residents near the saluda and wataree rivers.the good news is....we're told the water seems to have crested...so it should begin to recede over the next few days.however--the company is asking people to avoid the lake murray dam area and lower saluda river for recreational boating, kayayang, and other activities for now. 3 and an important reminder that the deadline to apply for flood assistance through fema is this monday.if you have already applied, you are in the system, so there's no need to apply again.fema officials say if you have experienced any sort of damage from the flood...you should apply.you can call 1-800-621-fema or go to disasterassistance.gov.and

3 columbia police are investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital.it happened on the 11 hundred block of king street around 7 last night. when police arrived...they say they found 2 people with gunshot wounds to their lower body.the 41-year-old female victim was shot in her leg and thigh area. the 20-year-old male victim was shot in lower backside. they are both expected to be okay.investigators say they do not know the motive yet and whetetr the victims knew the shooter.if you have information that can help authorities in this case, call crimestoppers, at 1-triple-8- crime-sc. 3 an arrest has been made in an armed robbery that took place last night.it happened just after 9pm outside the s-mart on two notch road.the suspect, 47 year old lawrence graham,

altercation with the male victim..graham allegedly pointed a knife and at the victim and stole his phone.he has been charged with larceny...richland county charges are possible. 3 3 clemson university is denying allegations that it "owed a duty of care" to a fraternity pledge who died during a fraternity run in september 2014.the parents of tucker hipps filed a lawsuit aftete they say their son was forced into a dangerous situation that led to his death.but university officials say that hipps may have contributed to his own death....that the run was not a violation of its hazing policy...and that they had no idea that hipps was told to walk along a bridge raililthe hipps family has filed two lawsuits, one claiming wrongful death and the other personal injury. both seek damages of at least 25 million dollars. 3 3 some lexington county

today. the city of westst columbia had to shut off water service to a number of customers until 8 this evening. this was done while water lines were being relocated near leaphart and mineral springs roads..this was supposed to happen wednesday...but had to be postponed due to t(e weather. water customers on about 20 west columbia roads were affected..you can find a full list on our website, wltx dot com...if you live in any of these areas...you need to boil your water for one minute until further notice. 3 and a water main break in columbia has casued some issues tonight.all three northbound lanes of trenholm road between coker street and forest drive are closed to repair the break. you can use coker street as a detour.at this time, a boil water advisory has not been issued for customers in the area.the lanes should be reopened tomorrow. 3
