loren thomas reports. 3 "we've been very the first two phases."the canalside development in columbia will soon have a phase three.on wednesdadaafternoon the columbia design and development review commission held a meeting to discuss specific designs for the project....as it was approved by the commission in their december 10th meeting.project development manager ned miller with the beach company says the 58 million dollar project is well on it's way. "there's clearly demand for this type of living and housing preferences have changed. being close to downtown and the parkway is a big draw."the first two phases are appealing to young professionals as the current apartments are at 98 percent capacity. "the amenities are great, it's so close to downtown in the vista. we're college students. we're grad students at usc so it's really conveinent living here."while residents enjoy living in the canalside properties, they aren't looking forward to the third phase...which will house 315 residential units with 30 thousand square feet of retail space. 3 "i like being able to walk outside of my front door and look at the view of the river right there.""i like it the way it is now with the you can run around with your dog and everything and scenic." 3 meanwhile---a couple in north charleston won one million dollars in the powerball prize last saturday. they say they're going to use some of the money to repair damage caused by the historic floods this year.they told lottery officials that they rarely play the big game. their ticket matched five of the six numbers--the only number they didn't get right was the powerball.3

base has died following a motorcycle collision ....he's been identitied as 31-year-old staff sergeant dallas pauls of columbia.the accident happened at around 7:15 wednesday morning near the main gate of the base..on highway 378.the highway patrol says pauls was turning into a private driveway when he was struck by a car. that car then struck another vehicle from behind. one driver was taken to the hospital the other did not have any injuries. the accident remains under investigation. 3 if you've ever gotten a speeding ticket ... you might have thought that the police department had a quota to meet...so that's why you got stopped. robert kittle tells us ... one of the bills waiting for lawmakers when they go back into session next week ... would -ban-
