temperature of just 43 degrees. only a slight chance for any showers through tomorrow. tomorrow again, the clouds 55 degrees. as we go in to saturday, we are going to be facing scattered showers. then it will be windy on sunday followed by colder air. we'll look at that forecast in a moment. >> all right, thank you. former south carolina men's basketball coach bill foster has died. foster was hired in 1980 to replace the legendary frank mcguire. they lured him away from duke where he won two acc championships there. where they played for the national title in 1978. however that success didn't carry over that well with the gamecocks after six seasons. bill foster resigned after posting a record of 92-79 with carolina. bill foster was 86. funeral services are being finalized for south carolina lawmaker billy odell.

heart attack at the age of 77. odell became a senator in 1989 and served on committees including the finance and labor committee, the commerce, and industry committee as well. he also chaired the general committee a catch all for specific projects like the panel that investigated the department of social services over the last two years. south carolina now has a new chief justice. of the state's supreme court today. he's been an associate justice on the high courts since 2000, replacing gene toll who turned 72 last year and took mandatory retirement because of her age. the new chief says that one change they would like to make is to shorten the bar exam. he turned 72 next month to only spend one year as south carolina's top judge. body cameras are headed to orangeburg county. the city council there approved

cameras for the orangeburg safety department. they cost just over $130,000. we're told the cameras will be used by the patrols, specific operations and investigation unit. they're expected to begin using them by the end of next month. also the first time in its history the orangeburg sheriff's department have promoted an african american woman to the rank of captain. she's antonia churchvan. she credits them for doing the right thing, which is why she chose a career in law enforcement. her 99-year-old grandmother helped pin the officer with her captain today. residence of the mobile home neighborhood say that they need their road fixed. it was damaged in october by the flood. they are worried that first responders won't be able to get to them in a time of an emergency. there's about 20 trailer homes all along tobacco street which is not maintained by the state.

have called the county multiple times, but feel ignored. so today they called news 19. the county administrator is expecting to mail out a contractor within the next couple of weeks. >> it is just a bad situation. they are here to help us when we need to get in and out. >> once that area dries up to a state where we feel comfortable being able to take our equipment, dump trucks, heavy equipment in that area to repair the roads temporarily. we will do that. >> unfortunately there's no timetable on how long it will take to get the roads fixed. a fatal accident happened yesterday on gibson road. mcleod jr. was hit and killed around 1:00 in the afternoon. as of tonight they don't have any concrete lead as to what happened. if you have any information as

in richland county, deputies are looking for two suspects for burglarizing a house as the family returned home. very scary night for the family as it happened last night at 10:00 on crest after. deputies say that the summons wife and two kids were pulling in to their driveway when they didn't recognize a car that was parked out front. the suspects then walked out of the home, demanding the vehicle be moved, but the family was inside. deputies say that the two suspects then got back in to their car and smashed in to the family's car three times. after they wouldn't move. one of the suspects shot at the car with the kids inside. the suspects then drove through the front yard to get out and left through a fence. if you have any information on who could have been responsible for this call crime stoppers 1- 888-crime-sc. one hall has been vandalized again. somebody spray painted renamed tillman hall and stopped honoring tillman on the building near the front entrance. crews are now evaluating the best way to clean the old brick

and campus police there are still working to figure out who is responsible for the crime. in columbia, police need your help in finding the drivers of the truck they say was used to steal $3,500 worth of fireworks. take a look. officers say the truck was seen in the 4800 block on december 28. police believe that this car is a black 1992 or 1993 extended cab pickup truck with black rims and a silver stripe down the side. anybody with information that could help investigators have to call crime stoppers. 1-888-crime-sc. governor haley says they are making progress in fight against violence. they have 50 recommendations to tackle criminal domestic violence and 10 have already started. she says that the group spent

meet and greet at carolina haven on bluff road here in columbia at 4:30. then on saturday he will be, it will take place at the jack kent forum being moderated by house speaker paul ryan and senator tim scott. that's taking place at the columbia convention center 8:30 in the morning until 2:00 p.m. also tomorrow gop presidential hopeful jeb bush will be in the upstate holding a town hall in anderson beginning at 6:30 tomorrow night at dyer's diner. then bush will also be taking part in that presidential forum here in columbia on saturday. in fact here is a look now at the other candidates who are attending that forum on saturday. again that is taking place from 8:30 until 2:00. it's all going on at the columbia convention center. the mother of a fugitive teenager who used affluenza defense after the teen killed

crash has now arrived at a north texas jail. tonya couch was seen inside the jail in handcuffs. she's facing a charge of hindering the apprehension of a felon. authorities believe she and her son fled texas in november while prosecutors investigate whether or not ethan couch had violated his probation in the deadly 2013 drunk driving wreck. house received only probation after a defense witness argued that couch had been coddled by his wealthy parents. the condition that experts called affluenza. meanwhile her son ethan couch remains at a holding facility in mexico city. his lawyer says his client is fine and he'll be visiting him as much as possible. a mexican court granted the 18- year-old a stay against deportation, which could delay his return by weeks or months. and still ahead for you tonight, we saw warmer temperatures out there today. jim says there is a chance that we could see some showers this weekend. he's taking a look at your weekend forecast on the other side of the break. one of the seven people in our state struggles to put food

have. the winner of the golden special is cupcakes down south. tell me this was created in charleston. why did you guys decide to open up a shop in columbia? >> well it just made sense to come to the capital of the state. >> reporter: everybody knows you have normal flavors and special flavors every week. how do you decide which one will be featured? >> it is really hard to decide because we have so many favorites. >> reporter: there are so many and we'll take a look at the highest and the lowest scores with the followups. during the visit on december 16, they received a 77c on top

they also observed wiping clubs not being stored between uses on the meat slicers as they were visited again on december 22nd and scored a 98a. and in west columbia they scored a 91 during their followup. on north 12th street they received a 97. china got a 98 and flaming grill in columbia scored a 100. now on to this week's low scores. they voluntarily closed on december 30 after scoring a 75c during their inspection. inspectors saw the waste water backing up out of the food drain. they also saw them in the bathroom's dish and prep areas. during the follow up on the same day, they gave the store a 95 for diverting the water leak, cleaning up the backup until that permanent fix is made. calls to the store are not answered. they are scheduled for the 8th. they scored an 86b. they lost points for having nats in their food as well as dead and live rats.

is going to be chilly tonight. >> it's not going to be as cold as it has been. >> okay. >> in fact you may only get as cold as what we saw this morning, which is 42. >> that's fine. save some money. they warmed up today because the sun came out and temperatures look like this up to 59 degrees. it was 64 in orangeburg. 65 over in new gus that area. tonight temperatures have banked off a little bit. the coolest readings in the eastern part of the state because the clouds have reached those areas last. and 48 in orangeburg. 49 degrees in columbia, a little bit milder along the savannah river. the clouds that are moving in, they are high clouds and thicker along the river right now. the low center once you get over in to the pd and north coastal area. we'll have some rain down along the gulf coast that will be spreading our way.

low country of the coastal plains. mississippi river valley with a surge of cold air that is coming down. here is what they are projecting as you can see around daybreak, we expect the rain. it'll be cloudy elsewhere in the state. much of it diminishing with a slight chance that we'll see rain tomorrow for the most part that we'll be seeing mainly just clouds. cloudy tomorrow night and then the next weather system will be coming through the southeast on saturday. late saturday afternoon in to saturday evening. then we're going to start to see the cold front come through, setting up the colder temperatures next week. for tonight we should not get

39 maybe in newbury. 43 degrees here in columbia. 46 down in orangeburg. then for tomorrow, we should see the high temperatures get down by the clouds. 52 degrees for newbury. 55 for columbia in orangeburg with our seven-day forecast. we're expecting better chances for showers on saturday. the high temperature of 59 degrees. then on sunday, partly cloudy. late in the day the colder air will start to move in. 50 for the high on monday and down to 26 on tuesday. we'll moderate a little bit with the other front coming through on wednesday where it will be breezy and turning colder, 52 degrees for the high on thursday. >> all right, so we've got a little bit of the reprieve before you say that it could get cold again? >> colder in the middle of next week. kind of like this week. but there is still more cold air that will be headed our way. >> all right, thank you. they have high expectations

they closed out 2015 with the record breaking growth. last year marked their fourth consecutive year of growth. something that has not been done since 1986. the final numbers for 2015 show that the airport is quite busy as they had over one million people using columbia metro last year. if you go to the library's ranch in forest acre where they will be closing for renovations. it's been 25 years since any improvement has been made for the branch, located on the road. the library will close in february and they will be closed then for about a year.

become the man that he is today. of course now he's at the county. >> they will go back to being at the high school to play football. and you know, trying to make me stop playing basketball because i was a big time hoops fan at that time and i will continue to get wider than taller. they've been great to me. i try to get as much as i can when i go home. i have more. i have three. hopefully after the season that it will be with the ring. but you know we are fortunate enough to play in the league a whole lot with five other super bowls. i hope they could get one more, but we have been blessed as they did a great job with us. and what can i say?
