to be a classic battle between two heavyweights alabama defeats clemson 45-40, they get the win and the national championship. they will face second in the country, country, the tigers say there is a lot totouild on for next year. >> what a year! what a year! incredibly proud of our team, obviously we wanted to win the game and came up a little bit short. i think that -- i think at least the nations also not -- the nation saw the heart of our team tonight. i think they gave us everything they had. they competed. i think we physically matched up great with these guys. i'm really proud of that. championship football is a game of few plays, plays, this one came down to a few plays.

seven-day forecast coming up in just a few minutes. ladies. >> thank you. a disaster recovery center in richland county will close tomorrow, but services will still be available through fema help line. the disaster recovery center at the richland main library will close at six pm tomorrow. 6 p.m. tomorrow. survivors of the flood can get help by calling the fema help line from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days a week. if you are affected by the floods you were invited to an input meeting that will help richland county plan for future natural disasters. it is a series of of six meetings. the meetings are scheduled for january 19 through the 23rd throughout richland county. the meetings will include interactive mapping stations, questionnaires and opportunities for you to submit comments and share information about your experiences. you are encouraged to bring photographs and other information to document. the recovery for a group of

swing. ballet school which is home to the columbia classic ballet company was devastated by the flood back in october. the company had just spent $260,000 that summer for state- of-the-art renovations and had to watch it wash away. however, the show must go on, of course. the company made up of ballet dancers all over the world now rehearses in the richland mall. the mall. the director tells us the tragedy has brought everyone closer together. >> beside the fact that i i had a heart attack after that, it made me stronger and the company stronger. it really showed the unity of the dancers. from people all over the world..they hope to rebuild and make the studio waterproof as soon as possible. 3 3 we saved everything that was possible to be saved. it was horrible. i've never seen anything like this in my life. >> he went on to tell us that the company has received

they hope to rebuild soon and make the studio waterproof. the circus is coming to town next week, and this will be your very last chance to see the elephants perform. ringling brothers and barnum and bailey announced all of the elephants will be moved to their permanent home at the ringling brothers center for elephant conservation in florida beginning in may 2016. the may 2016. the entire herd of 42 elephants will live out their days at the center. the company had promised to move them all by 2018 at the building at the facility was completed sooner than expected. ringling brothers says even without the elephants they will provide families with amazing experience of the greatest show on earth. yale university accepted eight freshmen from south carolina this year, and one of them is the son of immigrant farm workers. we visited the small edgefield county town of johnston to root meet this remarkable young man who said ivy league schools want to make sure more students like him, low income, high achieving accepted.

he has been snipping peach trees six-seven days a week and snipping against all odds. this south carolina farm worker with a middle school education sends the biggest lesson to his kids was always to be responsible and respect every person you meet. but the sacrifice this man took to come here >> they both came here, gave up what they were doing, i dad was a farm worker in mexico, my mom was a lawyer. they both came here. dad became a migrant worker, mom became a maid. >>reporter:it's what got his son through the first semester of yale university. >> it is sad to know they had to give up their dreams just a we so we can pursue hours. i think it is motivation to know that we are not doing this just for ourselves. this is just not so we can say we didn't buy ourselves, it's to say that we did it. our family did it. >>reporter:he's there on a full ride scholarship through the quest bridge program for low

achieving students. >> my parents do not speak english, you are put into scenarios where you are the one translating so you have to learn things quickly. >>reporter:a standard his parents taught him. his message to all of us is to work hard so you do not have to suffer through the cold, like he does. sonja, news 19 wltx >> he goes back r his second semester this week. his goal is to make it to law school and one day pass legislation to protect farmworkers from harsh working conditions. his fathers probably out there today working in that freezing cold. >> i love what he said about his parents having to give up everything so i can have something. that it motivates him and pushes him. i love that. good luck to him, ivy league, that league, that is very impressive.

i 26 over by mile marker 66, traffic has been picking up but no accidents are being reported. on the interstates had no real conditions as far as traveling especially as you are going east on sunset boulevard heading toward the interstate. from saw -- shaw air force base a 24 minute commute.

saluda, 27 saint matthews, bishopville 31 degrees, columbia at 30. the windchill is the big story it feels like 25 in downtown columbia, and sumter, 23 degrees in newberry. the setup we have right now is an area of high pressure down to the southwest and georgia is allowing a westerly flow. as this cold front starts to apprprch from the northern lanes, the winds will be squashed over tennessee by the time he gets to us it is going to be a very windy day today. we are looking at 52 in winnsboro for a high, 55 saint matthews, manning 55 degrees, columbia 55 degrees a lot of sunshine with the winds 20-30 miles per hour it will feel like more in the upper 40s. tonight freezing temperatures once again, as all of the lows in the midlands tonight will range from the middle to upper 20s with a few communities down to the south, into the lower 30s. we will not have a lot of
