of 49 degrees. looking at the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. lawmakers are back to work at the statehouse. the new legislative session began today at noon. just a few minutes ago. we have a reporter at the statehouse now with what the makers expect to accomplish this year. >> reporter: it is the first day to a very interesting legislative year ahead of us. starting off with an election year. we have heard talks that the election year could keep something from happening on the road. other senators say that despite it being election year, they will try to get some things passed on the road. number one issue. also another big issue to be the flood. the historic flood in october. especially the farmers who lost everything they had. not only for the first crop calm. lawmakers are looking at what

also rallying today at the sermon columbia. they are protesting the transpacific partnership deal. the group argues the deal would lock and high prices for prescription drugs. organizers say that americans pay the highest drug prices in the industrialized world. and last year, the cost rose by nearly 13%. they are urging congress to oppose the deal. another topic certain to make the legislative agenda in our state of this year is human trafficking in south carolina. a public meetingngto address what can be done by lawmakers to end the crime just wrapped up at the statehouse. the meeting was a call to action by victims and activists to pass legislation aimed at ending the crimes. the richland county sheriff also hold a press conference today at 3:00 p.m. to address efforts in bringing those offenders to justice. usc hosted the annual breakfast this morning at the

investigating g the death h an inmate in the york county jail. 29-year-old john dillinger was found unresponsive in his ces -- cell. he was arrested on charges of grand larceny under false pretenses. charleston has its first new mayor in four decades. john hackenberg comes after joe riley he retired after 10 terms in office. in his inaugural address yesterday, he says that the city must continue to move forward and find better ways to deal with public safety and tourism. joe riley was the longest serving mayor in the history of the city. president barack obama will deliver his final state of the union address tonight. and it is expected to take on an optimistic tone. white house aides said the president will call attention to his administration's successes such as reaching a nuclear deal

diplomatic relations with cuba, and negotiating a budget deal with the republican led congress. the positive recap comes despite polls that show many americans are pessimistic with concerns about terrorism and rapid social change. speaking of polls, a new cbs poll shows that the president has a 46% approval rating. the poll finds that 65% of americans continue to say the country is off on the wrong track. but on a positive note for the president, 52% of americans phaser -- favor his action concerning guns. governor nikki haley will be delivering the gop response today. she will be speaking from the you can see her speak immediately following the state of the union. democratic presidential won on.org. that is a grassroots organization that has been at the forefront of liberal causes.

but the wind gusts -- we have been getting reports of up to 26 miles per hour out of the west to newberry. up to 20 miles per hour wind gusting in other areas. columbia, 53 degrees. a lot of sunshine. beautiful outside. the dew point is 10 degrees. a relative humidity of 18. very dry air in place. wind out of the west, southwest at 70 miles per hour. pretty much all of the palmetto state is dealing with the sunshine and windy conditions. high-pressure to the south. and a cold front approaching has brought in wind from the west. along i-40, it has been ramping up. as we have gone throughout the morning, the cold front has been coming through. continuing to push down. and the wind has been picking up. that is before the cold front t gets here. highs today, expecting in the 50s. winnsboro, 50. saint matthews, 53. camdenton -- camden, 52. we could see wind gusting in

we -- we begin by putting a sheet of frozen puff pastry into squares. then we topped half of each square with some almond filling. then we put the dough over the filling and seal the edges. then we cut four slits along the edge of each square and courbet back a bit so they resembled a claw of a bear. and we sprinkle with sliced almonds and pop that in the oven. when they come out, the cool for a bit before drizzling with a homemade glaze. as for the taste, between the rich almond feeling -- filling, the flaky crust and the glaze, you might want to grab a plate of these and go into hibernation. i hope you go online and get the recipe for these. so you can make an unbearably good dessert without leaving your den. i'm howard with kelly in the mr. food test kitchen where
