3 governor haley delivered her state of the state address last night.she talked about the tragedies south carolina endured in 2015...both natural and man made.from the flood to the shooting deaths in charleston...the governor said our state is bent but not broken.at one point.....haley went off script.she gave a very public challenge to senators who she says have stopped her calls for ethics reform in the state house.

quick nat of haley 3 asking senators to stand: if you support true independent investigations, pelase standit was one of the most surprising moments of the night for lawmakers on both sides, although they had different opinions on whether or not it was called for. davis: that might be the only chance south carolinians get to see where their senator stands on this issue so, i think she used the bully pupit to her advanrtage, and it hink it was appropriate for her to doso. rutherford: i was disappointed that she talked about bringing us together, while at the same time pulling a childish trick of asking the senate to stand up when they had no way to defend themselves to speak on the issue.republican senator larry martin praised her speech, saying it brought to light key issues in the state like criminal domestic violence and education reform. martinwe havent had a governors committment like hers thats really going to make a meaningful difference in doemstic violence.house minority leader todd rutherfod said while he commends her on what he calls a very democratic speech, it left out one key issue championed by democrats: heathcare. rutherford: healthcare is still divide or fall, the hospital recently closed in barnwell. we've got a numberof problems weve got to address and one of them is to make sure people arent simply trying to find ajob so they have access to healthcare.and on the key issue of roads, opinions continue to be split on a gas tax, income tax cut and reform of the transportation department, with martin saying the senate is still far from reaching a compromise.. it makes no sense to pour more water into a bucket when there's a hole in that bucket. and the hole in the bucket is the poliltically driven way when we decide how

3 conservation leaders in our state say despite a 2015 study's findings, they're still concerned over the pinewood hazardous waste landfill.in 2015, a third party company said the landfill would last 50 to 100 years -- it was built in 1978. leaders say that means it's 38 years old and we need to be proactive in the case of a potential leak, not reactive. though it stopped receiving waste in 2000, any water that drips through the landfill has to be properly disposed of. michael mikota with the santee lynches regional council of goverments in sumter says this should be a priority for lawmakers. 3 michael mikota: "the decisions that were made when the site was opened in 1978, there's little we can do about it now, but going further in the future, we need to make sure that those improvements are better for future generations." senator courson says the technology is there to make sure a leak doesn't happen, but it's now a matter of lawmakers appropriating the funds to get it done. 3 richland county deputies and the attorney general office

arrested six people for human trafficking.they announced that on december 9 that the south carolina state grand jury issued six indictments . all were arrested and taken to the richland county jail. the indictments were sealed by court order until defendants could be arrested.this case began with an investigation by richland county sheriff department deputies into allegations that female victims were being trafficked for money. 3 awareness is one of the most important things we can do. 3 the indicments say the trafficking happened in richland, lexington, orangeburg, and aiken counties. 3 the chapin police chief will be returning to the job after being suspended for three days

without pay.karen owens, a spokeswoman for the town, didn't give specifics but says chief troy crump was suspended for a personnel matter and a violation of job standards. back in november chief crump stepped down as chief and took a community policing position. the town has been in the process of searching for a new chief.in the mean time captain ray craig is stepping in during the suspension.the chief is expected to be back on the job tomorrow. 3 3 a reminder to all drivers. the department of transportation is closing an exit on interstate 26.this is for the eastbound off ramp at exit 115.it's closed tonight to replace an overhead sign. it will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.the two right lanes will be closed. detour signs will be in place for drivers needing the exit 115 eastbound off-ramp. be careful when traveling through this area.
