freezing rain mixed in. we have freezing rain along i 77 in the northern part of fairfield county and to the eastern part as well. south heading into the eastern side of richland county, still moving into sumter -- into kershaw county, a mix of rain, possibly resuming. sumter county as well, lee county has been inundated with a mix of rain and freezing rain. this all continues into extreme eastern parts of sumter county. the temperatures for the most part are slightly above freezing, 32 degrees as well as newberry -- 32 degrees newberry in camden. the windchill is the biggest issue. in aitkin we are at or well below 20 degrees with the windchill. that is causing issues. freezing rain advisory still in effect and now extended until saturday afternoon at 2:00 for kershaw, lee, newberry and

which we already hit today. wintry mix all day today into overnight tonight at 32 degrees. now we have a potential for this continuing through saturday morning into the afternoon, 40 degrees. we will look at the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. the weather has already led to closings and delays in parts of the state. lee county school district is releasing early today. they will be released at about 12:30 at the elementary school level. in kershaw county, there's a two-hour delay in some areas. they will release students at 12:45 this afternoon. also fairfield county, state government offices are closed today. you can find a full list of the latest closings and cancellations on our website, wltx.com. we will also be putting that information on the bottom of the screen throughout the day.

management division is looking hard to respond to the changing weather situation. savannah levins joins us live met with more. i know you have been there all morning.>> reporter: this is the epicenter and hub of staying in front of the storm. you can see the radar behind me. this is where state agencies meet and talk about this. the idea is to stay one step ahead. these storms can be so volatile, changing every second . it is hard to predict but easy to stay ahead of. i am now going to bring in derek becker. as of this moment, where do we stand with the storm? >> we are better than we had previously predicted. we are trying to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. make preparations and nothing happens, that's the worst thing that can happen. we are getting reports of ice accumulation on the roadways,

spartanburg. we have heard that two counties in the upstate will open shelters as a precaution due to power outages. the main thing to remember is it is just getting started. we are going to have this for probably another day. national weather service is predicting more snow for the upstate and northern midlands. we hope that the columbia area will be spared but you don't know. >> -- >> reporter: you said we are doing better than we hope the -- then you had thought. >> it has been interesting. you see reports coming out of north carolina. it looks like the worst effects are starting at the border of north carolina and south carolina. that is good for us. so far north carolina has not request many resources. we stand by to help them. >> reporter: this is largely a preventative measure but you want to walk that fine line of being prepared but not to worry. >> the ice storm of 2014 and 2

latest from there.>> reporter: that is right. we are here in kershaw county at the sheriff's office. we have sheriff jim mackey's with us. what has it been like for the last couple of days? has it been pretty easy? you haven't seen too much so far . >> we haven't prepared tougher. we are out there 24 seven a matter what the weather is. this morning when i came in i stopped by the amendment -- -- 24/7 no matter what the weather is. this morning i went into the emergency management office. we have a lot of sleet and freezing rain coming down. some areas are covered a nice. the roads are still good but ice is forming in the trees which is a concern because that even here at the sheriff's office we are seeing some ice forming in the trees. >> reporter: how do you respond to these quick turnarounds? >> we are just out there. assistance, we go.

if it gets worse, we will mobilize our four-wheel-drive vehicles. i don't know if that will happen. we are prepared to do that. we also bring nurses to the hospital and tell people who get stuck and so forth.>> reporter: earlier today, a few schools had a two hour delay and now they are being let out early. is a just a precaution because of the roads? -- exact just a precaution because of the roads? >> i think the middle school and high school will be let out at 12:30 today because that part of the county is beginning to ice up. it's just a precaution. >> -- being with us. day. as the sheriff said, we want to make sure everyone stays safe. if you can stay inside and have no reason to go outside, please do so. stay safe, stay warm and state drive.

extreme southeastern part of fairfield county, the northeastern part of [ indiscernible ] county all the way from columbia to pontiac. pick your area. there is probably light freezing rain throughout the entire county. lee county has been under a freezing rain situation for several hours. now it's going into the northern and eastern part of sumter county. i had a report earlier today, a lot of people were reporting a lot of ice and freezing rain on the trees has been developing. we are still under a freeze rain advisory for kershaw, lee, newberry and fairfield county. this has been extended until tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 because conditions right now are favorable for a lot to still come in. the area of low pressure is still over northeastern alabama. it's not meet its weight into

-- way into the palmetto state yet. the wind-chill factor there is 22 st. matthews. the windsor east. they are at 16 to 17 miles an hour gusting as high as 23 to 24 miles an hour. the wind is going right over with this subfreezing temperatures and making the roads slick. conditions were tonight -- today, we have hit our high already in the low to mid 30s. overnight tonight will be cold with temperatures in northern communities in the upper 20s and at the freezing mark in the central and southern midlands. the forecast shows we might have a little bit of a low of precipitation throughout the day -- lull of precipitation throughout the day. this will continue throughout

midlands. with cold air in place and precipitation coming in, we could see a little bit of snow flurries this morning -- in the early morning hours tomorrow and daybreak as well and then going into the latter half of the morning. once we get into the afternoon we could see a little bit of dusting. outside of that, it's out of here and gone by the time we get to saturday night. we are watching this carefully, tracking conditions going into overnight tonight and into tomorrow. tomorrow afternoon temperatures will start warming up into the 40s. all of it should be over. by sunday believe it or not, a lot of sunshine, 52 for high end up to 59 by monday. stay with us this afternoon.

howard is in the text -- test kitchen creating italian cheese dumplings. >> one food trend i have been hearing a lot about lately is something called "nudi". i looked it up and found out it is naked in italian. naked ravioli has the feeling of ravioli without the pasta par. let me show you. we combine a container of ricotta cheese with some egg yolks. parmesan cheese, flour and a little bit of salt and pepper. once that is mixed we drop teaspoons of dell. we found the

use two spoons, 12 scoop the dough and the other to push it off. than we sprinkle more flour. this way it won't stick. we drop these in a pot of water. we do thisisin batches so the top dozen get -- pot doesn't get too crowded. we simmer them until they cook it. we sauti them in a buttery garlic sauce until they get golden. finish them off with parmesan and begin. i hope you will go online and try what we call italian cheese dumplings. you can shake a pasta night with something new and tasty. i am howard in the food test kitchen where we are looking for an exciting way for you to say -- that is so good.

despite the weather there are a bunch of great events taking place this weekend in the midlands. the annual world bear festival is being held at the columbia that your piloting convention center. visitors can sample over 200 beers from around the world, including some brute in columbia. tickets are $40 for general admission. the first session is noon until 4:00 in the second is from 6:00 until 10:00. the ringling bros. and barnum & bailey circus extreme circus is in town this weekend. colonial life arena. there's a show at seven tonight and 3 tomorrow and 2 tomorrow -- sunday. this is the last year that show because they are being retired next year. >> they are being retired. i remember watching them as a kid. elephants. it is time for them to retire. at least they are going to a good place. >> in florida where it is warm, as i understand. here.
