cruz makes headlines on the republican side of the race. interesting story developing for the democrats. hillary clinton is trying to fend off the bernie sanders insurgency that is well under way here in the hawkeyed state. both she and sanders made their closing arguments here in des moines. senator bernie sanders drew more people than the auditor reyum could hold. he is talking about a higher minimum wage and sticking it to wall street. he argued that is what makes him better than hillary. >> my opponent yesterday announced she had received some $45 million for her superpac. we announced that we received 0 dollars for our superpac. >> this crowd loved it. hillary supporters argued he would have a struggle in november because he calls

>> people are not afraid of that word like they used to be and hillary clinton has so much baggage. >> reporter: ed fallen recently endorsed sanders and said voters have one thing in common for those who back donald trump. they want an outsider and turning those people out will be key. >> if enough people may not be caucuses goers turn out tomorrow, we will see a victory here in iowa. >> reporter: but clinton can claim a narrow lead in the polls here. >> when you consider where she was a few months ago, where she was way ahead, the momentum is clearly with bernie in iowa. [applause] >> reporter: whether that is true is up to the iowans who show up to caucus. meantime hillary clinton held a rally on the other side of town joined by her husband president bill clinton, hoping to rally the troops before the caucuses. she hopes she can pull off a

sanders is pulling way ahead in new hampshire. if she can at least win iowa, it would bow a contracted fight in the next states to come. 6:03 now. let's check in about the forecast. >> it is going to be a beautiful day, a warm day. although we will have to start off with chilly temperatures for some of our commute this morning. it is a chilly 43 inmaning. 47 sumter. 48degrees. we get to the western part. aiken 55. here in columbia, 50 degrees. cloudcover in place for the most part. relative humidity at 80%. >> when the kids head out to the bus stop, they will need a sweater, 46 degrees when they head out.

5- to 10-mile-an-hour winds and 71 degrees. rather mild, almost warm overnight tonight. a low of 54. then tomorrow, as the winds shift at 10 miles an hour, a mix of sun and clouds and warmer up to 74 degrees. for those of you heading out the door, let's check on the traffic conditions right now. i 26 traffic is light right now, but will pick up. no accidents are being reported on i 26. we have a stalled vehicle if you're traveling along i-77. this is going to be assault vehicle by exit 24 for wilson road. we do have and i believe there is going to be some kind of debris on the roadway if you're heading on i 26, this is going to be by exit 110 and 111. be aware of that. as far as from the lake murray boulevard, a five minute commute there.

afternoon when the kids get out of school, 70 degrees, very warm, partly cloudy skies and our highs will be in the upper 60s down into the lower 70s. here in columbia, winds at 10 miles an hour, a high of 71 degrees. tonight it will be mild, 54 degrees with light winds and a little cloud coverage as all over lows tonight in the lower to middle 50s. now as we watch this cold front goes through, it will dissipate toward the palmetto state, but an upper level low right now parked outside in the west coast. as it makes its way through, a significant snow accumulation in iowa later or the caucus tonight. but as it crosses the souththern united states, they will be looking towards thunderstorms. tuesday morning to tuesday afternoon, rain toward the western part of the upstate but

morning into the afternoon, this cold front will make its way through and we have been looking at showers and thunderstorms but not for tomorrow though. 75 for a high. then thunderstorms on wednesday. 74degrees with the showers lingering into thursday. then into next week -- rather the weekend, temperatures are getting into the middle 50s with a lot more sunshine by sunday. >> >> as far as the roads, traffic as you head out the door, no accidents on i-20. this is at exit 72 so as you're skirting through by farrow road, no issues by i-77 and i 26. from deng kerr boulevard, we have a little delay. 23-mile-an-hour speed limit as you head north on decker boulevard. a little further south, we have a little bit of a delay. 25-mile-an-hour speed limit so

hour by hour quite a bit of clouds and sunshine. a mixed bag of both. 57 by 10:00. 62 by 11:00. we'll hit around 71 this afternoon with winds continuing out of the south west and dropping to 67 degrees this afternoon at 6:00. as far as the roads right now, let's take a look at traffic picking up on i 26. this is as you're heading towards saint andrews road. traffic has been moving along but no accidents on i 26. we still have a vehicle that has been reported so this is going to be on i-77. this has been reported for the last hour by wilson boulevard. as you head south on 77 be aware of that. it is not blocking the roadway, but you'll see it's on the road as you pass by. >> a 7 minute commute there.

caucus sites for the first contest in the nation. candidates made their final pleas for support yesterday with polls showing tight races on both sides. forecasts are calling for snow in part of the state beginning tonight which could have an impact on voter turnout. continuing coverage in lexington county where the coroner's office needs your help to find the next of kin to two women. 52-year-old debra lynn baker. take a good look at the picture. she died. it is believed she is divorcend and possibly has children living somewhere in the lexington or columbia area. now the other woman is 78- year-old marriage ry maynard. she died earlier this month from natural causes at a cute rehabilitation. if you have any information on the relatives of these two women, you're asked to call the lexington county coroner's office.

a new ininiative is aiming to get more students a college education. seniors that go to high schools can go to the technical college for two years free of charge. i'll say it again. free of charge. all students must start at the college right after graduating high school. need at least a 2. 0 grade point average and test into college through a.c.t., s.a.t. or c ctc placement scores. it is a great way to build the economy. >> historically 15% of the students who graduate from high school in central carolina, our goal is to double that to 30% of the students which choose coming straight from high school and not only have the two-year degree but a trained add ready workforce for the industries in our service area. >> this is the first program of

>> coming down from clemson the countdown is on. we're just six days away from super bowl 50. the carolina panthers will face the denver broncos and both teams are now in san hoe jay california ahead of the big game. they touched down yesterday, just in time for sunday's big game. they will hit the field pretty much everyday this week. they won't have much down time before the game. they will have to practice for that big game. if the panthers win it would be the first super bowl title in franchise history.

anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers at 1-888-crime-sc. >> the killing of the 19-y-yr- old over the weekend deputies say heatley jr. was arrested. he was caught on camera using her debit card at three separate locations just moments after the crime. heatly has been charged with murder and armed robbery. happening today, if you hear some loud booms going off in orange county today, don't worry. the sheriff's office will perform bomb squad training so you may hear explosives going on from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the training facility about 8 miles east of bowman. the state of the town address for lexington will take place tonight at 6:30 at lexington townhouse.

is going to be on highway 277 as you try to get on i-20, there is a stalled vehicle on the interchange there and for whatever reason there is a delay on farrow road as you head south. speed limits down to 20 miles an hour. give yourself extra time. >> 51 degrees. the kids will need a light jacket for this morning because temperatures will slowly warm up. a lot of cloudcover moving in. this won't do anything to us. when the kids get out of school, they will have a little cloud coverage but very warm, 70 degrees and wait until you see how beautiful it is going to be. 71 today. 75 tomorrow. another cold front comes through by wednesday after we hit a high of 74 degrees, showers and thunderstorms possible. temperatures it 50s. as you would say, break out the barbecue, sunglasses. very nice. >> and we're hungry.
