>> reporter: 1/2 of the courtroom was filled with supporters and at first brandon spencer's grandmother declined to speak and then she tanked him for his service but she had more to say. >> i also want you to understand he has a two-year- old son that will never, ever get to see his dad ever again. his dad won't be there to support him. he won't be able to play football with him. and that is all i want to say. news 19 reached out to an instructor who explains the law as it pertains to this case. >> there are times when deadly force is justified to protect your life or the life of someone else. that -- but there is never an occasion when deadly force is warranted to protect property. >> reporter: it is a tragedy for both families but there is something the public needs to understand.

we will be 3 tomorrow night at the colonial life arena, the third ranked usc gamecocks tomorrow night the usc women gamecocks can do something very special, win their third sec regular season title. they host georgia. coach trying to get her team to put together a complete 40 minute effort she says and the men hosting florida on saturday. they will be playing in front of a sold out crowd. since starting 17-0 the gamecocks have gone 4-5 in their last 9 games so they are 21-5. game time saturday is noon. gamecocks lost back to back games for the first time this season. so again big game at home against florida this weekend.
