welcome back to wltx news19 at noon. if you are just tuning in now, the midlands -- all counties are under a tornado watch effective right now until 7:00 this evening. that prediction center has issued that because the storms

if they become severe, they could show some significant activity as they go through the afternoon. right now, a strong wind moving through -- fairfield county, to newberry -- all the way the heaviest concentration now is along this line that none of these are severe. i want to stress that none of them are severe. they are moving very quickly at almost 50 miles per hour straight up to the north, northeast. you can see the line stretches all the way into parts of the western french. we will be dealing with this for quite a while. temperatures are unbelievably warm. seventy-five in lexington. seventy-five in orangeburg. seventy-five in saint matthews. here in columbia, 77 degrees. wind out of the south right now. upwards of 30 miles per hour. sustained wind. the wind gust is worse. forty up to 50 miles per hour wind gusts. especially in the northwest and northern parts of the communities in the midlands.

this is one of -- where the cold front is. it is racing through the palmetto state. the reason why we have the tornado watch. and a lot of clearing skies ahead of this. giving us a chance for instability. behind the cold front, the skies are starting to clear. although there is cloud coverage in the way, when the cold front makes its way through, we will start to clear out. the storm prediction center still has us under a slight risk for severe weather five. and an enhanced risk -- or category -- into the piedmont. all the activity is expected in central and northeastern parts of north carolina into virginia. all of that fortunately has bypassed us. but we are still under the gun -- the possibility of heavy rainfall. not as prevalent. a windy conditions gusting at 30 miles per hour. small hail possible. and the chance for an isolated tornado. highs today getting into the middle to upper 70s.

because of the presidential primary. a group of us were talking. we noticed that there were a couple things missing. what was missing were voices from black women. when you look at who actually votes -- black women are the highest voting group. so we thought it would be good to just talk about issues. this is not about a campaign or a candidate. it is about the electorate. not the election. trying to just inform voters of issues. because when all of these cameras and attention are gone, we will still be here with the same set of problems. >> we need an informed electorate. you are one of the panelists. what are you prepared to talk about tomorrow? >> from a business perspective -- one thing about african- american women -- we are growing. there are specific issues that are impacted with us. several disparities.

and healthcare. those issues are issues we're not talking about necessarily in our community. we were talking about how people don't even know the issues and how they impact your day-to-day lives. we were talking about the disparities impacted by decisions made on the presidential level and making informed decisions. >> whatatlse is on the menu? >> of the core for most us is faith. we know that in spite of us all -- we all know that is what keeps us all going. it keeps us all sustained. we want this conversation to be is an opportunity for black women in the area to come together -- to deal with those three issues in particular. anything else that comes up -- after all, we are sisters.
