access.wgbh.org3 after months of being closed because of flood damage....spears creek church road in northeast columbia has re-opened. however....as news 19's loren thomas tells us...there work that still needs to be done. 3 "glad to get it back open and have people travel through the area."spears creek church is now back to normal....well at least for the time being. the department of transportation opened the road today around 4pm after it was closed following the but there are still repairs that need to be made in the future. actually a blown out on this location is still not that it part of what took so long is trying to figure out what we were with time. so this is temporary until we know what's going to dam longterm."it took the dot one month to complete the project, which included adding two 60 inch pipes below the bridge to water from the rotureau lake. they are expecting to make more repairs in the future "but we wanted to get the road back open to traveling through the area." "i'm glad the roads are open because it's been a real problem with the extra traffic on clemson road."franklin buie lives right behind the lake that flooded into spears creek church road and says while he is glad the road is open, he in the past to prevent the dam from breaking. >> this is richard corley, patrolman with the columbia police department. once a student here at the criminal justice academy and now he's the teacher. well kind of. >> basically, we drink to the point where we were drunk and on a breathalyzer and then we have cadets that come into do the dui field sobriety on us so that they can learn what they need to do as police officers what they are looking for, how to go about seeing signs of impairment. >> that's right. well our volunteer cops drink, the academy students are downstairs getting ready for a very real test. >> walk and turn. just walk it out. >> traffic safety instructor donald rock is going over the field sobriety protocol one last time with the students before they put it all into practice with our officers. >> hands-on is always the best. they love going out and actually being able to see

employing the concepts of better learning in the classroom. >> let's check back in upstairs. our volunteers have been drinking for two hours now. >> it's easier for me to show you an impaired person than it is for me to tell you what one looks like. >> traffic safety manager dale smith is monitoring the group. >> three ounces of vodka is what they are drinking. >> and their blood alcohol content very closely. >> what we're looking for is to get people to the level of .08, .09, somewhere in that range because those are considered the lower level dui'ms, the ones most officers cannot detect easily and those are the people that are sliding by and actually killing people. >> that's the gray area. officers need to be able to detect if someone has been drinking on these lower levels when it's not as obvious. now one last check of everyone's bac before the students come up. remember officer corley, now at

rich land deputies telling us a person was found shot to death inside a vehicle in north east rich land county this evening. officers made the discovery around 9:30 or so off seaton hall drive. now that is located between hard scrabble road and the village at sand hill. if you can imagine that area somewhere in between there is where this is located officers say they are looking for suspects but again, someone found shot to death inside the vehicle. oh, off seaton hall drive around 9:30. if you have information call crimestoppers at 1-88-crime sc. >> too many shootings in that area. >> yeah, they had a shooting off hard scrabble road in that area saturday night, shots fired at the publix grocery store and then earlier a few months ago there was someone shot to death off hard scrabble road at a gas station. another shooting at the serenity restaurant so now tonight this one? >> very scary.

not during the day. today we warmed up into the mid 70s 76 in columbia, 75 sumter and 74 degrees in orangeburg. we have clear skies at the moment and a weak front to our north is beginning to dissipate altogether just a few clouds and the tennessee river valley. the stronger front is back to the west of that front and extends across the midwest into parts of the central plains, cold air to the north and you can see the snowfalling here and to the south its been a very warm day. in fact here are the high temperatures across the country today. notice here in the southeast many areas got up above 70 degrees even 60s in the ohio river valley go north of that front temperatures were dropping off in fact during the late afternoon many areas we're seeing temperatures in the mid 20s. now, here in our area, temperatures have dropped off a little bit but it's still mild. it's 49 degrees in columbia, 51 sumter and 53 orangeburg but

pick up so it's 58 in greenwood, anderson it's 59 degrees. now our computer model is indicating when you wake up in the morning you'll wake up to sunshine but clouds will be increasing under partly cloudy skies, tomorrow night, that's when we expect the rain to be come in. it's going to be coming in from west from georgia and coming in during the middle to late evening hours and come through overnight while you're sleeping and when you wake um on wednesday it's out of here and we'll be back to mostly sunny skies so our forecast is like this for tonight. we're expecting low temperatures to drop down into the low to mid 40s, 42 in camden, 45 columbia but may only drop down to 48 in orangeburg and manning and then tomorrow it will warm up again into the low to mid 70s, 71 in newberry,, 74 for columbia and sumter and 75 orangeburg. our seven day forecast keep in mind tomorrow night we'll see rain but it will be mostly

kicked offspring practice the tigers have gone through off season conditioning and now back together for the first full squad work out for the 2016 season which obviously is a long way away for the season opener. the runners up to alabama and the national title game holding a work out the head coach is glad to get his guys back on the field. >> again just really proud of our team. what a special year, so many good things finish number two and todays about trying to get to number one. that's really what it's about so back to work, i've seen a great focus and a hunger from these guys through off season. our matt drills were awesome. i mean awesome and have one issue, guys were dialing in. our senior day was probably the best senior day we've ever been around as far as how those guys ran the drills that day. it's just there's just they got a little pep in their step. >> it is a little weird not

it is a little weird. there were a good job. i did a good job last year leading this group and leading the defense and other guys on offense it's just funny not seeing those guys and now i have to be more of a leader. i've been here for almost a full year and i have experience playing and i could help guys who haven't had that much experience. >> on this first day of spring practice, wide receiver dion king is back with the team. today he just threw the ball around a little bit and did some conditioning work inside the indoor facility. he will be going to meetings but he needs to work on his off the field obligations and he adds cane has made great strides to get his work getting his way back into the good graces of the coaches. >> the biggest thing is we've just removed that competitive piece of football because i want him to really stay on, i really don't need to see him run to be honest with you. i'm not worried about the football side of dion cane.
