mark: two cincinnati officers on paid leave after a fatal shooting while responding to a robbery. a clearer picture now as to why the officers opened fire. lisa: 10 u.s. sailors are detained in iran and are expected to be released this morning. why they were taken into custody. mark: and you' re walking out to another chilly morning today. meteorologist randi rico is in with the latest on our winter forecast. ahead. we start with a water main break. cold weather is creating a big mess in silverton. we have a crew on the scene to bring the latest information. mark: let' s get right to randi rico with the latest on the forecast. randi: mid 20' s? you think that is warm? it is better than single digits. these are actual air temperatures at the moment. the coldest spot, hamilton, 1 degrees below zero. 7 at cvg. actual air temperatures, single digits for most of us. the wind is not superstrong. the crazy wind has died down

enough to create a bit of a wind chill. three miles per hour at cvg. when you see a breeze, the feels-like temperature dips down below zero. the win closer to dayton are closer to 10, 15 miles per hour -- the wind closer to dayton. most of the viewing area, it is plain old cold. 8:00 a.m., subzero wind chills possible. it will be cloudy this afternoon with a high in the mid 20' s. mark: thank you. bundle up and lookout for slick spots as you head out this morning. lisa: the freezing temperatures are giving many local kids another chance to sleep in this morning. many districts are worried about kids walking to school or having to wait at the bus stop in the freezing temperatues. norwood city schools decided to close today.

edgwood and fairfield are on a two-hour delay. cincinnati public schools has a two-hour delay for elementary school buses. remember, can see a complete list on wlwt.com. cincinnati police investigating a triple shooting this morning, after shots were fired at the corner of linn and poplar in the west end. the shooting happened around 8:00 last night. the first victim, a man in his late teens/early 20' s, was found on the sidewalk along linn street shot in the stomach. he was taken to surgery at uc' s medical center in critical condition. the other two male victims, both also in their late teens/early 20' s, walked into ucmc, both with gun shot wounds, one to the back, another to the hand. no names have been released for the victims or any potential suspects at this time. mark: happening today, another day in court for a local woman accused of killing a grandfather and his two grandchildren. jessica hood is scheduled to be arraigned today, charged with manslaughter and assault. investigators say she was behind

florence last year. hood is accused of hitting charles napier and 13-month-old twins sean and samantha may weaver road. police are still working to make an arrest after a car was stolen in mount airy. we are told the car stolen was stolen at the intersection of colerain avenue and north bend road around 10:00 last night. an officer spotted the car a few hours later, and it was abandoned near the intersection springfield township. whoever was driving the car smashed into a parked car and then ran from the scene. also new, a close call this morning in pleasant ridge off langdon farm road. police say a car crashed into a fire hydrant just after 2:00 cincinnati water works was able to remove the hydrant and turn the water off, so a big mess was avoided. police are still investigating the cause of the crash. mark: developing right now, 10 u.s. navy sailors are being held they' re expected to be transferred to a u.s. ship

the pentagon says two u.s. boats drifted into iranian waters in the persian gulf after one had mechanical issues. it happened near farsi island, where iran operates a military base. >> we' ve received assurances from the iranians both that our sailors are safe, they' re being afforded sort of the proper courtesy that you' d expect. we' ve also most importantly received assurances they will be allowed to continue their journey promptly. mark: secretary of state john kerry assured iran the drift into their waters was accidental. the u.s. is condemning a deadly suicide bomb attack in instandbul, turkey, that killed 10 people. another 15 people were injured in the attack isis has claimed responsibility for. officials say eight of those killed were german tourists. the u.s. state department says the attack reaffirms their

the islamic state. police are now providing a clearer picture of why two cincinnati officers opened fire killing a robbery suspect monday night. police say robert tenbrink wasn' t complying with officers' orders in west price hill. he was wanted in two armed robberies, and police say when they had him at gunpoint, telling him to stop, tenbrink reached into his jacket and pulled out what appeared to be a gun. chief eliot isaac showed us the weapon. it turned out to be a bb gun. >> we don' t want to see anyone lose their lives, but when these type incidents occur, our officers have to respond in a manner in which they' re trained. mark: tenbrink' s brother tells us he had cancer and a history of addiction. he says the family feels bad for all parties involved. the officers, andrea harmon and kevin manz, were both hired in 2014. the chief says they did everything according to procedure. lisa: only on wlwt, a trial is now entering its second day, for a dry ridge man accused of shooting his estranged wife,

. shaun hiles is accused of shooting his wife and her friend larry whiteker to death in july of 2014 as they drove down mulligan road. witness deborah collins testified that she was the first one at the scene of the deadly shooting. she said she found shaun hiles on the ground with two self-inflicted gun shot wounds. deborah: he said, i killed my wife. i repeated it because i had the lady on the phone. i said, you did what? you killed your wife? he said, yes, i shot my wife and i shot the home wrecker that' s in there. lisa: the defense deferred opening statements yesterday. seeking justice for a fallen firefighter. mark: the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of an arsonist has been increased to $25,000. hamilton police hung posters around town advertising the reward. firefighter patrick wolterman was killed last month after falling through the floor of a home on pater avenue. investigators say the fire was

his big initiatives. in the gop response, south carolina govern nikki haley said what america needs is a republican president. gov. haley: we are facing the most dangerous terrorist threat our nation has seen since september 11th, and this president appears either unwilling or unable to deal with it. lisa: president obama confessed that he feels he failed to bridge the partisan divide, and called that one of the few regrets of his presidency. mark: narcan is usually something police and paramedics have on hand when a person overdoses. but now a hamilton pharmacy is making it easier for civilians to administer the drug. from january through september of last year, 137 people died of overdoses in butler county. the coroner says 108 were heroin related. if your insurance won' t pay for narcan, you can now get it for free at community first pharmacy. >> i think any family member who has an opiate-addicted family
