mark: a snowy forecast ahead. meteorologist randi rico has an hour-by-hour look at when the snow' s expected to hit. lisa: road crews were hard at work overnight preparing for the incoming snow. the big challenge they face every time snow is in the forecast. mark: and canceling school due to inclement weather is a big decision. how some local schools go about making that call. m lisa cooney. we have team coverage of the winter weather heading into the area. randi: we' re seeing some light snow downtown. mark: one loaf or two? randi: lisa: the bre ad forecast? snow is rolling into greater cincinnati, slowly shifting to the east. the leading edge approaching lebanon and mason. moving toward goshen and batavia. it is starting to pick up along the state line and down toward harrison, right on the indiana state line. expect the snow to be with us

not moving out until lunchtime. the advisory has been extended to the entire region, except for fayette and union counties. it is not a big snow. some messy spots could be possible. 8:00 a.m., 17 degrees. buy new, 21 -- by noon. still, no change as far as what we should see today out of the snow. lisa: thank you. our team coverage of winter weather continues with a check on how cincinnati and northern kentucky road crews are making sure local roads are safe. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is live with a closer look. good morning. dan: snow showers starting to come down or flurries which are

moving along just fine but we are seeing more flurry activity and the road crews have been out there with the snow trucks, pretreating the roads and getting everything ready. northern kentucky crews started last night and are salting and pretreating the roads. take a look at sentinel street and we are already seeing snow on the street here. we are starting to see a touch here that we can take away with our shoes. we will keep you up to date live as we move through. we' re live downtown. mark: thank you. we' re getting a firsthand look of what you' ll see on the roads

s go straight to reporter andrew setters who' s leading the way in our live drive 5. where are you and what are you seeing? andrew: we are seeing the snow begin to stick to the streets. you heard randi say the heaviest snow bands are up near the state line of ohio and indiana. we are approaching montana avenue westbound on 74. it is beginning to stick. the road conditions could deteriorate as we go through the morning. the amount of snow is beginning to stick and it will depend if road crews can stay ahead of this and the rate in which it comes down.

on the roads because of slick spots. lisa: thank you. the winter weather is causing a lot of trouble for drivers on the road, and aaa has been busy coming to the rescue. local aaa crews have responded to more than 2,000 calls from stranded motorists since the arctic air arrived sunday afternoon. >> people running out of gas in their driveway from letting their car warm up. locking their keys in the vehicle from letting their car warm up. lisa: in the last three weeks aaa has changed more than 800 car batteries. check your batteries as well as your tires, which can become flat due to the low tire pressure. mark: many schools are already announcing delays or closures for this morning, and the decision is not an easy one. wlwt news 5' s miriah turner is at the live alert desk now with what school leaders consider before making the call to open or close. good morning. miriah: when you'

making the call to have or not to have snow days, the decision is not cut and dry, especially when the snow is expected to hit at an inconvenient time. in mason, so far the district has not used up any snow days. last year they used four. the superintendent is the one to make the call, getting up at 4:00 a.m. this morning to check the roads. every time snow is a risk, she will drive around the streets and walk the sidewalks to see how the accumulation is measuring up. the next step, to contact different district leaders to find out how the buildings are it' s a decision districts take seriously. >> we always love it whenever mother nature cooperates and douses us with feet of snow at midnight. that' s always perfect and easiest. miriah: make sure to check out our website, wlwt.com, for the lastest school closures around greater cincinnati. from the live alert desk, i' m miriah turner. mark: you can also download our wlwt app for the latest on the winter weather as the temperature drops and the snow

you can watch the updated forecast and see the list of closings and delays. lisa: that to the forecast. 18 degrees. the snow is here but it is balmy. randi: the last couple of mornings we' ve had single-digit temperatures. it is fairly light to the west of the 75 corridor. you can see deeper blues into owen county where it is coming down pretty good. closer to the 275 loop, a bigger clip along 74 into chevy iot and back towards harrison. this is not a gangbusters snow for us.

morning, snow showers and we' ll see most of the snow between 6:00 and 9:00 this morning. afterschool, maybe a couple of flurries, 24 degrees. i am starting to get questions about friday. 15 to 20 questions about friday. a snow day is a possibility. it could also totally miss us to the south. there is a lot of real estate to cover between the west coast and friday. how are the roads today? kyla: we get started and good morning on this wednesday.

sandwiching cinnamon bun and frosting flavored creme. this week also sees the triumphant return of red velvet oreos, which were launched last year around valentine' s day. the release kicks off a year of specialty flavors as part of a new oreo marketing campaign called the wonder vault. i wonder what is going to come out of the vault next. a real-life rescue for actor jamie foxx after police say a driver was trapped in his burning car. officers in los angeles say a 32-year-old man was speeding when he flipped his car and it burst into flames last night. the police report shows two witnesses used a tool to break a window, then cut the man out of his seatbelt to free him. a spokesperson for the actor says foxx was one of those witnesses. the driver was later arrested for driving under the influence. i was watching early today. they showed the driver' s father talking to jamie foxx.

pete rose is heading into the reds hall of fame and will get a statue. mr. rose: statue will be fun. number retired will be fun. going into the hall of fame will be fun. i hope it' s fun for the fans that weekend. you know, because i know you' re not coming to see san diego play. [laughter] george: san diego is in on the weekend of june 24. the 40th anniversary of the 1976 champs. the induction ceremony is on saturday. a local drafted into majorly soccer, 1 2012 grad that was taken in the third round of the super draft by the colorado rapids.

the back edge is costing into indiana -- is crossing into indiana. it is going to be a morning time snowfall. it is coming down pretty good during the heart of the morning rush. we have a winter weather advisory. take a look over to the west coast. the next system is starting to move in. a whole lot of real estate between the west coast and cincinnati. there is a huge make or break factor for the forecast on friday. 8:00 a.m., steady snow showers, 17. there could be a stray flurry

10:00, 11:00, we are watching the back edge roll through. some flurries into the evening hours. an inch, inch and a half. as for the friday forecast, most of the system could stay south of downtown cincinnati. it is still too early to tell. still some question marks on friday. morning time snow, 1-2 inches total. sunny skies tomorrow. for us, it could hit or miss. it is going to be a bigger issue

where the heavier bands set up. guys? lisa: thanks. breaking this morning, at least 20 people were killed in a terrorist attack on a university in northwest pakistan. security forces killed four attackers, but officials admit they don' t know if there were any additional attackers among the dead. they did warn that recovery operations were ongoing and the death toll could rise. explosions and gunfire erupted on campus of bacha kahn university in charsadda near the border with afghanistan. the school has about 3,000 students. mark: we could know by the end of the week if suspended judge tracie hunter will serve six months in jail for her felony conviction. special prosecutors have announced their decision about hunter' s retrial. they say a second trial on the remaining eight counts is not worth the effort or expense. >> tracie hunter has been held accountable for her conduct and has been penalized accordingly.

she no longer is relevant to either the court system or the community. mark: the judge gave hunter' s attorney until friday to file an appeal for her conviction of unlawful interest in a public contract. hunter still faces sanctions and legal hurdles to running again. lisa: a community mourning the loss of a hero. the middletown fire department is honoring retired firefighter paramedic scott bruggeman as they prepare to say goodbye. bruggeman died on monday after being diagnosed with sarcoidosis in 2014 after a heart attack. the disease began to attack his heart and lungs. he was 45 years old. middletown fire considers his death a medical line of duty death. >> scott was a firefighter paramedic that a community would want. he was born and raised here. he knew the people here. people knew him. lisa: bruggeman wasn' t just a hero for his community, he was also a marine who fought in
